HOW TO CATCH WILD CATS. Brief Instructions. Catch and sterilize!
4 messages
On the eve of spring, as well as at the request of a large audience and due to the fact that I am not rubber and cannot catch all the animals in the city at the same time, I decided to write a short instruction that will increase the chances of catching distrustful, timid and wild animals.
First of all, you should remember that when you catch a “wild” cat or dog, you are unlikely to succeed the first time, so you should not despair and give up after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd unsuccessful attempt . It may take several weeks, a dozen attempts, a lot of effort and nerves to catch a “wild” animal, or it may even succeed the first time (if you are lucky).
First you need to study the area where the “wild” dog or cat lives. Perhaps there will be baiters or people she trusts, or some kind of confined space, or some feature in the animal's daily routine or habits that you can use to successfully catch.
I advise you not to believe in the fairy tales of some “especially smart” catchers who advise catching wild cats by “covering them with a cage”, and then putting them in a basket, wrapping it with tape, or grabbing a wild cat with your hands and putting it in a carrier - this is all deception and blasphemy: in the 1st case the cat will be 10 meters away from you at the moment when you just lift the cage, in the 2nd case the cat will rip your hands bloody and will be 10 meters away. IN BOTH CASES THESE CATS WILL NOT COME TO YOU ANYMORE!
If you caught a wild cat using these methods, then, most likely, it is either dead, or in deep anesthesia, or trusts you so much that it could not be caught at all.
The best tool for catching cats is a landing net. It's a landing net, not a net! A landing net differs from a landing net in that it is triangular in shape, while a landing net is round (photo 1).
For catching animals, the simplest Chinese landing net is suitable, which can be purchased at any fishing store, of which there are many in all bazaars. The landing net folds and unfolds. When folded, it takes up 1 m in length, and you can easily ride with it on public transport, and when unfolded, it takes up 3-4 m. The wider the landing net, the better. The main thing is that the net is made of thick fishing line (photo 2), and not from fabric or similar material (fabric is much easier to tear) (photo 3).
In principle, you can even catch puppies with a landing net, but not always (my landing net was broken by the first wild puppy, breaking the metal rods on which the net is supported).
Next, you need a strong carrier, something like this (photo 4). The basket is garbage. It is useless to catch someone with it (photo 5).
The fishing technology is as follows:
Although many say that cats see equally well both during the day and at night, I prefer to catch them in the dark because:
1) I noticed that in practice, in the dark, cats do not have time to notice the rapid swing of a fishing gear flying directly at them;
2) if you are lucky enough to catch a cat, then it will hit the ground from side to side in the net, making a roar and releasing its feces in all directions, and then you will drag it along the street in it or put it in a carrier, and, believe me To me, there will most likely be imaginary animal rights activists on your way who will mistake you for a flayer. Well, then there are different scenarios. Therefore, in the dark, the likelihood of being noticed is much less.
In general, you came to the feeding place alone in the evening, or you took the granny who fed, opened the landing net, and poured food for the cat. The most important condition for catching a cat is (. ) TO GO BEHIND HER BACK (. ) - DO NOT TRY TO PLACE A LANDSCAPE ON HER WHILE IN HER FIELD OF VIEW (. ) - tested by dozens of unsuccessful attempts and many wild pregnant cats who have experienced the “joy” of motherhood doomed suicide bombers.

What will you need to catch yourself?
- Kotolovka. A special trap for cats with a tightly slamming door. Perfect option. You can ask about rentals at animal protection organizations, shelters, or among experienced volunteers. If not found, use the next option.
- Carrying. For your purposes, you need a durable plastic carrier with a removable lid and a metal door. Firstly, the presence of a door allows it to be used as a trap, secondly, such material is easy to disinfect, and thirdly, a removable lid will allow the veterinarian in the clinic to most carefully remove a cat from the carrier in a state of severe stress.
- A fragrant and tasty delicacy. Used as bait and positive reinforcement.
- Plastic bowl. Wet food suitable as a treat should not be placed directly on the ground.
- Time and patience. In addition to the direct process of catching, feel free to spend several days taming a timid animal. Yes, with a competent approach, it may take some time, exceeding one free day, but the likelihood of a successful outcome of the operation increases. And it's better for the animal. Be prepared in advance for the fact that catching and all subsequent mandatory activities will take you the whole day.
Important! Blankets, rugs, sheets and similar items are not suitable for catching a cat. You risk missing, since a person’s reaction is inferior to a cat’s, and after such an attack the cat will not come closer to you than a cannon shot.
In addition, you can overdo it and harm the animal, or it itself will rush to attack, defending itself.
We learn from our own experience that cats know how to be friends
Unlike puppies, kittens cannot demonstrate unconditional love to humans - it is not in their nature. But they know how to become attached with all their hearts, and if you decide to save the life of one of them, be sure to see for yourself.
The main thing to do is to find a balance between respecting the kitten’s personal space and paying attention to it. Play with your baby, talk to him, stroke him, but don’t squeeze him forcibly, don’t tease him or teach him to play with his arms and legs - very soon the baby will gain strength and be able to seriously scratch you. Perhaps during your life together you will become so attached to each other that you will no longer want to part
But if leaving the kitten is impossible, take a couple of tips
Perhaps, during your life together, you will become so attached to each other that you will no longer want to part. But if leaving the kitten is impossible, take a couple of tips.
1. 80% of success in the device is high-quality photographs and touching text written from the heart. Take your time if you don’t want your ad to get lost among hundreds of similar ones.
2. Animals that have been examined by a veterinarian and vaccinated find homes much faster.
3. Do not give the kitten away at the first call. Often people call out of emotion, and what they say sounds very convincing. But the baby’s future depends on you, so act rationally. Find out in what conditions the kitten will live and whether all family members agree to such a new addition. Is the potential owner ready to install screens on the windows, and in the future - to castrate or sterilize the pet? The answers to these questions will tell you a lot. Be attentive to details - and then your foundling will probably be lucky with his family.
We evaluate the animal
It is sometimes not so easy to distinguish a street dweller from a pet that has accidentally found its way outside its home. It is a mistake to assume that a stray animal must be emaciated and dirty. The street poor people are often fed by compassionate people. In addition, a healthy animal takes care of its fur and looks no worse than its domestic relatives.
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell the difference between domestic cats released by their owners onto the streets and stray inhabitants of streets and yards. In this case, it is necessary to observe such a cat for some time.
If an animal is outside in the evening and at night, then most likely it does not have a home. Walking domestic cats are usually accustomed to returning from the street at night.
Many owners let their pet out into the yard after putting an anti-parasitic collar on it. Its presence indicates that the animal has an owner and is not stray. Caring owners also attach a tag to such a collar indicating their phone number and address. Purebred and valuable animals are often microchipped so that in case of loss the rightful owner can be identified.
A cat that comes outside for the first time experiences severe stress if it has never left the apartment before. Therefore, the behavior of some pets found outside the apartment may be similar to their wild counterparts. As a rule, stray animals do not trust humans, especially if they have spent their entire lives on the street.
Pets associate people with food, warmth and comfort, so a lost animal is more likely to make contact even with a stranger. These cats have a well-groomed appearance and a beautiful, shiny coat. Upon closer inspection, you can note the cleanliness of the eyes and ears, and trimmed claws.
If the cat is a contact cat, then you should pay attention to the condition of the paw pads. If they are soft, then the animal rarely visits the street and is most likely lost. Coarse pads indicate that the cat is constantly outdoors.
Domestic cats are most often neutered, and unlike neutered cats, this is not as difficult to determine. Scratches, torn ears, wounds on the face and body, received in the process of protecting its territory and during fights for the female, indicate that the animal is homeless. Constant scratching and biting indicates that an outdoor cat is infected with fleas.
You should be especially careful about animals outdoors during the winter season. Poor food and cold are faithful allies of cat death. In winter, owners are less likely to deliberately let their pets out of warm apartments, so the chance that a person is lost is small.
We recommend reading about how to stop a cat from marking its territory. You will learn about why a pet leaves marks at home, how to wean a young and adult cat from marking, and how to prevent marks. Here's more about why cats sleep on their feet.
Mechanical devices
Does your cat react normally to a special carrier, calmly climb into it and not start a riot before any trip? Consider yourself very lucky. In this case, place the carrier not far from the place where your pet is hiding, put a tasty-smelling bait in it, and be patient. Think in advance about how you can close the trap. You probably won’t be able to do this yourself: when your pet notices that you’re approaching, he’ll immediately take off. If you can’t figure out how to automatically close the carrier, you can simply tie a strong rope to the handle and sharply pull it at the right moment, cutting off the animal’s escape route.
If you have the opportunity, you can catch the fugitive in a special cage. Externally, such a device is similar to a regular carrier, with the only difference being that it is equipped with a mechanism that automatically closes the door. Such a cage is not cheap, so if you do not maintain a whole cattery of freedom-loving cats and do not plan to use it every day, try renting it from a veterinary clinic or the nearest shelter. Most likely, they will gladly meet you halfway. The main thing is that, having finally caught your pet, to celebrate, do not forget to return the trap to its owners.
So, the question of how to catch a cat in a trap has been resolved. It's time to move on to more sophisticated methods.
Lure your cat into a more confined space
It's easier to catch a trap when you don't have to do it outdoors! Place food in a smaller space that you can get close to, such as a garage or shed. Hide and wait for the cat to come in, then close the door behind it. Before you lure your kitten in, prepare the room.
Clear the space of any possible hiding places, then lean one large board against the wall. Set up a trap box and hide it behind the board. When a cat is confined to a smaller space, it will immediately try to find the nearest hiding place. Since you only left her with one option, she will rush behind the board and possibly straight into a trap.
Continue socialization
Since all pets live by instinct, this can be used for manipulation purposes. For example, how to tame a cat if he categorically refuses to make contact? Blackmail him with hunger. To do this, give him the opportunity to eat only in your presence. Bring a bowl of food, place it next to you and wait. Sooner or later, the feeling of hunger will force him to approach. As soon as he finishes, take the bowl of food. The kitten should have 24/7 access to clean water.
Another trick for luring a kitten out of shelter is to spread sour cream or yogurt on the tip of your finger. Attracted by the smell of the treat, the animal will come out of its “hole”. After some time, the pet will begin to calmly respond to you and take the treat from your hands. At this stage, you can try to gently pick him up. This doesn’t require anything complicated: as soon as the kitten approaches you, pat him on the head and gently grab him in the chest area, lifting him to the level of your face. Be careful: if the animal breaks out, resists and swears, it is better to let it go. Try again in a few days. If the kitten responds favorably to being held, pet him and give him a treat.
An important part of the socialization of any animal is joint games. Pet stores provide a large selection of different toys for cats. You can start by buying a regular fishing rod with a mouse on the end. Kittens usually like to catch the toy and bite it.
It is important that the animal associates play with pleasant emotions, so do not scold or scold the kitten at this time. To tame it with your hands, you can use a little trick: when playing with a fishing rod, try to throw the “bait” onto your lap
This way the kitten will get used to jumping on you.
Unfortunately, some behavior problems may not go away over time. For example, a cat can avoid strangers all its life, and nothing can be done about it. All that remains is to accept the pet as it is. It has been scientifically proven that sterilization makes cats more good-natured and reduces the level of aggression. Such operations also protect against a number of diseases.
Take the kitten in your arms at least once a day, call him by name and caress him - this way you will tame him faster. Over time, you can introduce him to more people so that he gets used to them. Ask friends to gently pet your pet and give him treats. Try to avoid loud sounds, music, and bright lights in the presence of a wild kitten. If there is clearly aggressive behavior, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian about the possibility of using sedatives. They will help relieve anxiety in the animal and calm it down.
If you have a wild kitten at home, advice from other owners of furry pets will tell you how to tame it. Be patient and do not demand an immediate change in the animal's behavior. Also be prepared to sacrifice furniture or some of your belongings, as the kitten may damage them during the adaptation process.
Catching a pet
There are fewer difficulties in catching a cat that has found itself on the street by accident than in catching a wild animal. A pet trusts a person and makes contact easier. To lure, you should stock up on an arsenal of goodies in order to identify the preference of the lost one. Being predators by nature, cats will sooner or later appreciate the offered treat, and contact will be established.
When feeding even a domestic-looking cat, you need to stock up on a carrier for transporting your pet, and also take measures for safe contact with the animal. You need to wear thick gloves when handling the cat. It's better to approach from behind.
If the animal is distrustful and has spent some time outside, a trap can be used to catch it.
Own or homeless
Let's separate the flies from the cutlets and figure it out: what kind of dog are we catching and why? If one of your own runs away - one conversation. If you have to help old ladies like this, like in the introduction, it’s completely different. It would be more appropriate to remain silent about the stray dog, because why catch him? But life situations are simply fantastic. For example, a neighbor always remembered her dog. He ran away a couple of years ago. And imagine the situation: you ran into this neighbor in the store, and you are returning home together. And she is suddenly surprised to recognize her dog in a stray dog running past. The same one who ran away many years ago.
The dog is shy because it is homeless. And the neighbor asks for help with catching the animal. How are we going to catch it?
Methods for pet dogs:
- Team.
- Imitation of the owner leaving.
- Delicacy.
- Dog whistle.
Let's talk about each method more specifically.
Use a trap
Whether you make a homemade trap or buy one, make sure that the product you choose will not harm your kitten or you. It's probably best to use appetizing food to lure your baby out of hiding. For example, you can try canned fish. They are inexpensive and cats really like their scent.
If you are planning to purchase a trap, ask the seller to find out which product is best to choose. If you plan to make a trap, make sure it will not harm or kill the kitten you will be trapping.
The expert recommends that you don't simply try to grab your kitten if it passes you on the street. It is better to prepare thoroughly and return the next day, taking with you a trap, as well as bait. You can use the microwave to cook something delicious.

It is very important to be kind to your kitten. Remember that he doesn't have much experience interacting with people. Perhaps he was already scared of random passers-by who were trying to catch him. When your kitten is caught in a trap, be quiet, calm and gentle because it is a traumatic experience for him.
Important Procedures
When a street kitten or cat is caught and brought into the house, a number of procedures must be followed. First, let him sit in a dark corner for a while. Then take the kitten out and examine it. Discharge from the eyes and nose, rash, and areas without fur indicate an infection in the animal’s body, so it should be shown to a veterinarian. If nothing is found at first glance, wash the kitten. This must be done because of parasites. For example, fleas. Fill a bowl with warm water and immerse the kitten in it. It is best to use a special anti-parasite shampoo. The animal, despite its tiny size, can desperately resist: bite, scratch and break free. Try to finish your ablution in any case.

When a wild kitten appears in the house, how to tame it to people is not the most important problem. As a treatment for parasites, you need to give him an anti-worm tablet. It is unlikely that your pet will take well to attempts to push medicine into him. Wrap the kitten in a sheet or any thick fabric, forcefully open its mouth and place the tablet on the root of the tongue, then press it with your hand. The animal will be forced to swallow the medicine.
How to wean a cat off the street
So that the tramp is not drawn to his usual habitat, he is surrounded by care. What the new owners are doing:
- create comfortable living conditions - a sleeping house, a place for games, a tray;
- They take you out to the balcony for a walk. First take care of mosquito nets and bars on windows;
- several trays are placed, the pet chooses where it is convenient for him to go to the toilet;
- well fed. The diet will be agreed upon with the veterinarian;
- castrate and sterilize animals;
- playing with a kitten.
Note! The cat is taken out into the yard in a carrier bag and is not left unattended.
Stray cats are pathetic creatures. When there is a desire to take the sufferer home, they find out whether it is a neighbor’s pet. They are caught using carriers and special traps. Maintain personal safety, as the cat may be infected with worms and external parasites. They organize quarantine at home and at the same time tame the cat. Patience and love turn a homeless child into an affectionate pet.
First stage
The first stage of acquaintance requires caution, since the cat can attack a person and scratch him. Check in first, demonstrating friendliness and respect
To find out the cat's mood, place a palm above its head. If he nuzzles or purrs, he allows himself to be petted. At your next meeting, you can pamper your new pet with something tasty.
If the cat rubs against his legs and purrs, then perhaps he is bored and wants attention. Unconditional trust is evidenced by the fact that the animal sits comfortably on the person's lap.
A cat rubbing against its legs is a good sign
Next, they ensure that the cat climbs onto her lap on her own.
Then they carefully teach her to limit her movements and lift her into her arms. At first, to avoid injuries in the form of scratches and bites, wear long sleeves and do not walk with bare legs or bare feet.
You can't look a cat in the eyes
When the cat begins to calmly perceive the presence of the new owner, you can spend some time with her - for example, 30-60 minutes, for example, reading a book. And the cat is offered toys that are sold in a pet store.
Choosing a toy for a cat
The cat should not be given a reason to be aggressive. Human touch and fear can cause inappropriate behavior. Another common method is to try to lure the animal towards you with treats. Once the cat is on your lap, you can pet it and give it a treat. But at the same time, the animal cannot be restrained by force. Another way is to smear your hands with a product with a pleasant smell for cats - for example, valerian.
Fear of touch takes a long time to heal, but the new owner must be patient. At first, the cat is not picked up and contact is not required if the animal seeks privacy. Light touches are only possible if the pet itself approaches the person.
Nervous excitement should always be a signal to stop contact. And it manifests itself like this:
- the tail trembles;
- ears drooped towards the head;
- shoulders and limbs tense;
- pupils are dilated.
Full pupils and pinched ears are a sign of tension
Methods of catching and procedure
To catch a wild cat, you must first carefully prepare the ground for luring it into a trap, accustoming it to your presence in the field of view. The most effective way is regular feeding. It is advisable to do this at the same time, for example morning and evening. First, you need to leave the treat not far from his shelter, moving away a considerable distance. To gain the trust of an animal, you need to constantly talk to it. With each subsequent feeding, the distance should be reduced little by little.
When the four-legged street child stops being panicky about his potential savior, it is recommended to offer him a treat inside the cat's bag. This stage consists of several stages: first, a bowl with a treat is placed almost on the threshold of the trap, then it is gradually moved deeper. The preparatory stage may take 2–3 days.
In the process of preparing to catch a tailed wanderer, you should not try to pick it up, much less grab it, even if it behaves calmly. Realizing that you can quickly slam the door without giving the animal the opportunity to run out, you need to act. It should be borne in mind that failure will cost the lost trust, and taming will have to begin again, and there is no guarantee that the animal will again allow a treacherous person to approach it.
As soon as the cat is in the carrier, it must be covered with thick fabric, creating twilight in it. This will help calm your cat, which is experiencing severe stress, at least a little.

You should not immediately try to pick up the cat, as this will most likely result in injuries - bites and scratches.
First, the cat is accustomed to your hand by placing it palm down on the floor; you can place the cat’s favorite toy nearby. You need to wait until the cat comes up and rubs itself on your arm or leg. In this way, she wants to make sure that the object present is not dangerous. If a person initiates contact, the animal may respond with an attack.
If the cat attacks, pick him up early
If the pet has given the go-ahead, the palm is slowly raised to eye level and held in this position for a while. Then they begin slow stroking. You need to stop before the cat gets tired of close contact with a person.
Experienced animal lovers are sure that raising a kitten from the street is difficult, but possible. The main thing is to follow simple rules
It is important to understand that changing behavior takes a lot of time. Therefore, you need to be patient. Before you think about how to tame a wild kitten from the street, figure out whether you need it

The difference between pets is that they are people-oriented. Cubs, seeing a person from birth, feeling his smell, get used to trusting and reacting positively to the one who caresses and feeds them. Street animals, without an owner, gradually forget about trust and love for people, and therefore begin to react aggressively.
What to do when a cat is caught
It’s especially pitiful for a street dweller in bad weather, when he’s shivering in a wet fur coat. The eyes beg for help, good people decide to catch and take in the poor fellow.
First steps after capture.
A stray cat should first be shown to a veterinarian.
Veterinary examination
At the clinic, a specialist will determine the breed. In cities there live cats, whose ancestors in the 1st-3rd generation were pets. They make contact and are taken into the family.
In the rural outback, emaciated forest and reed cats attach themselves to human habitation. Representatives of wild fauna are returned to nature. The exception is sick and old individuals. But they are taken into yard care, placed in enclosures, and fed.
The doctor will examine the city tramp for wounds, scratches, broken limbs, disinfect sores, scabs, check the skin and fur for ticks, lice, fleas - ectoparasites. If the latter are present, then the specialist will prescribe drops, sprays, and care products.
The doctor will take tests for intestinal helminths - endoparasites. After a visit to the clinic, a street kitten is given a bath and immediately treated for worms.
Note! The foundling is placed in a quarantine block for two weeks. At home, this is a separate room where the new resident is provided with peace, food, and their health and behavior are monitored. Make sure there are no open windows, as the cat will run away.
If he eats well, the fur is shiny, the eyes and mucous membranes are clean and pink, there is no smell from the ears, after 14-15 days the new resident is released into the apartment. It is not dangerous for children and other pets.
Next come scheduled visits to the veterinarian - the course of vaccination begins, which is mandatory for the cat family. These are vaccinations against rabies, calcivirus, chlamydia, etc.
Taming a kitten
If you bring a kitten into your home that has recently been thrown outside, it is not difficult to adapt it. He will quickly remember a person’s affection, will be grateful for food, and will soon become a pet.
It’s more difficult with a resident of the gateway, who was born from the same mother. But education and taming are a matter of time and patience. You need to work on the student.
The quarantine period is used to socialize the new resident. They show him friendliness, affectionately call him by his name, which is given to him as he was brought home.
At first, the pet is visited 2 times a day at the same time. They bring food and toys. Place the bowl on the floor and place your hand next to it. You can hold the treat in the palm of your hand. They call the animal, wait for it to come and try the treat.
Check readiness for contact - hold your hand above your head. If there is horror in your eyes and the cat hisses, you should not put pressure on the animal. If you are calm, you can pat him on the back.
Every time you enter a room, they knock on the door. The cat will soon realize that there is no threat and will begin to rub against his legs. A good sign is that adaptation is going well. Gradually they begin to be picked up. The first unsuccessful attempts are associated with stress.
Cats have different personalities. Some individuals never become furry, affectionate companions. But all felines can be domesticated. The main thing is not to be rude. But they immediately teach the prohibition commands “Ugh!” and “You can’t!”, which are accompanied by a clap of the palm.
Note! They instill one good habit after another: going to the toilet in a litter box, not stealing food, not climbing on tables.
Every pet should have cat toys.
What does a cat need at home?
The cat will feel loved and needed if you create the right conditions for it. What does a street dweller need:
- isolated room. There is a storage room, a balcony, and a bathroom. In a closed room there should be a tray, food, water;
- protection from strangers. First, the person who fed and caught it communicates with the foundling. Other family members and pets have short contact;
- own care and hygiene products: brushes, scratching posts, baths;
- toys. Varied and colorful, they attract your pet and don’t let you get bored.
Important! The main thing that owners must provide for a kitten brought into their home is love.
How to catch a wild animal?
We hope that you are planning to catch a “nobody’s” street cat solely with noble intentions. Felines that have been raised on the street or have suffered abuse usually do not trust people. How to catch a wild cat that won't be handled? First, observe the animal. Determine its approximate habitat and try to find out if someone feeds this cat. If a feral cat trusts at least one person, you can always try to negotiate with him and ask for help in catching the animal.
You can try to make friends with a cat if you definitely decide to pick it up from the street. Start feeding the animal regularly and talk to it. Do not try to pet or grab the cat if he does not come on his own. Be patient, and within a few days the cat will rub against your legs and then voluntarily go into your arms.
The cat caught the bird: why is it dangerous?
Birds, especially migratory and urban birds, carry many parasites and diseases:
• A cat can become infected with salmonellosis, psittacosis, false tuberculosis and campylobacteriosis from poultry; All these diseases are also dangerous for people.
• Fleas, worms and protozoa live equally well in cats, people and birds.
In addition, a large bird can cause serious injury to a cat (especially a young and inexperienced one), for example, peck out an eye. In this case, the wounds are likely to become infected and can cause abscesses if they are not treated promptly.
Tray training
This problem is faced not only by those who picked up a kitten on the street. Animal sellers often claim that babies are toilet trained. But often this is not true. We have to get down to business ourselves and teach the baby one of the most necessary skills for living in an apartment.
During the process of training a pet, it is advisable that the kitten is always under the supervision of its owners. Observation will minimize the likelihood of puddles appearing in inappropriate places. Every successful trip to the litter tray requires praise and petting.
A successful trip to the litter box should be encouraged
Instructions for kittens
The tray should have a small side, since a small kitten will not be able to climb into a high toilet. Use clean water to rinse the container. If a fragrance is used, the smell should be subtle. To make the task easier, you need to soak a piece of cloth or paper in the urine of this kitten and put it in the tray. Then the baby will follow his scent. To toilet train a kitten, you can use special products that are sold in pet stores.
Tool for training a cat to use the tray
Determining that a kitten wants to go to the toilet is quite simple: it starts to fidget and loses its calm. At this point it needs to be moved to the tray. To better make it clear that an unfamiliar object is intended for bowel movements, you can scratch the surface of the tray with your finger. When urination or bowel movements begin, talk to the kitten in a gentle tone, thereby encouraging its correct actions.
The baby should be carried to the tray every time after waking up or eating. Having planted it in the tray, you need to make sure that it makes raking movements in the filler.
Instructions for an adult cat
Problems may arise with an older cat. Here are the rules that will help you change your habits. The best place for the tray is a bathroom, toilet room, or insulated balcony. But no matter where the owner places the toilet, it is necessary to ensure constant access to it for the pet, especially if he is often left at home alone.
It is more difficult to train an adult cat to use a litter box.
If the cat lived outside before, then it is accustomed to the open space. Therefore, the tray must be large enough. Veterinarians recommend trays with high sides for adult cats so that the litter does not spill on the floor when it is raked after bowel movements or bladder. An alternative option is a toilet house.
Closed toilet house
Usually, animals themselves intuitively understand the purpose of the structure with filler. But if this does not happen, you need to make it clear where to relieve yourself. There are several options. When the cat chooses a place to defecate, you need to quickly place a tray under it, stroke it and move away. It may be that the animal will run away. But it needs to be returned to its place and the action repeated until the process comes to its logical conclusion.
For wild cats, you can try a lawn toilet
The smell of her urine will also guide your cat. To do this, as in the case of a kitten, a piece of cloth or paper soaked in urine is thrown into the tray.
Reasons for refusing a tray
Refusal to relieve yourself in a specified place can be provoked not only by the stubbornness of the animal, but also by other reasons:
- health problems;
- inconvenient tray format or size;
- choosing the wrong place;
- untimely cleaning of the toilet;
- the need to share a tray with another pet.
If the owner tries, the cat will sooner or later get used to its new toilet and stop shitting anywhere.
Each pet gets a separate tray

A way to catch your escaped kitten
Catching the house
If you call a shy cat, but he doesn’t want to go and is hiding somewhere, you can try to lure him out. The main thing is not to scare off. A bait is suitable for this. With its help, kittens are lured out from under the sofa or closet. While the fluffy ball is eating, you need to communicate with it and calm it down. You can try to gently stroke it or pick it up. If you are planning a trip, you need to put him in a carrier. Just sit it with its muzzle facing outward so that the cat can see what is happening.
How to fish on the street and in the yard?
This can be done in the same ways: using treats and traps. An escaped cat with or without kittens must be lured. Sooner or later she will get hungry and come for a snack. When a pet knows its owner, it is more willing to make contact. But to avoid the animal escaping and getting lost, it is necessary to close the doors and windows. Cats jump out of windows, get injured and can simply get lost.
How to catch an animal that finds itself outside the apartment
First of all, collect your thoughts and try to find out exactly where your pet is. Act collectedly, quickly, but without undue haste. Remember, if you immediately rush into the yard and try to catch the cat, with a 99% chance your attempt will fail.
For a pet that has never crossed the threshold of its apartment before, being on the street is not an easy ordeal. The calmest and most balanced animals in such a situation show unusual aggression, simply not recognizing their owner. Before resorting to more serious methods of catching a fugitive, try the following: put on a jacket and trousers made of thick material, and put thick leather gloves on your hands. Bring along a cat treat or toy that your pet has a strong attachment to. Spray catnip spray on his litter and take it out into the yard. You can apply a little spray to your own sneakers.
You shouldn’t expect that when a pet sees its beloved owner it will immediately rush into your arms. At best, he won't run away. If the cat gets close enough to you, you can try to grab it. But you will have to act very quickly
It would be better to lure your pet with food and, when all his attention is absorbed by a tasty piece, throw your jacket, bag or old blanket over him
The tricks of catching a cat, which we will talk about in this article, will help you get out of the most difficult situation with honor and return the fugitive home safe and sound.
Truth and myths about valerian
It is an established fact that all cats are partial to valerian. You can try using this pharmaceutical remedy to catch an escaped animal. Buy an alcohol tincture of valerian; most cats do not show interest in tablets. The best option is to lubricate your own hands or clothing with the drug and wait for the animal to approach you.
If the cat is too scared, this method will not work. Then leave a carrier or a regular cardboard box near the place where the pet is hiding. Build a bedding inside, drop a few drops on it and wait for the cat to appear. It is better not to use Valerian in places where many wild animals live. The smell will attract all representatives of the cat family without exception. But, seeing a large gathering of its relatives, a stressed domestic cat is unlikely to leave its shelter.
Choose a way to catch a cat on the street based on the animal’s character. Remember: every unsuccessful attempt at catching is a new shock for the pet.
