The manufacturer made an advertising move - he combined the first two ingredients and indicated them on the packaging as follows: “Lamb meat (lamb meat meal (23%), fresh lamb meat (17.5%))”, so that at first glance it would seem that the first place in the composition is lamb meat.
In fact, the No. 1 ingredient in the composition is lamb flour (23%) - in principle, this is also a fairly good indicator.
In total, there are four sources of animal protein in the feed: lamb meal (23%), fresh lamb meat (17.5%), powdered eggs and fish meal. The first two of them are in the top five ingredients, which means that the animal protein content is generally average. It’s good that the manufacturer indicates the percentage of the main ingredients in the food.
Fishmeal occupies only 10th place in the composition of food - rather, it is a natural protein component that improves the taste and smell of food, rather than a complete source of animal protein.
Composition of Arden Grange feed
In the composition of the feed, the honorable first place is occupied by lamb meat in the form of dry meat flour - 29%. Meat meal is obtained as a result of dehydrogenation (drying) of meat and its further grinding. The food also contains about 5% fresh meat, which will be reduced by about half after cooking, so the total component of a high-quality meat product is at least 32%.
Arden Grange includes a large number of plant ingredients , with rice alone accounting for about 26%. It is a good source of carbohydrates, especially needed by active dogs for energy. Recently, rice has become actively used in the preparation of dog food as an alternative to wheat. However, during its purification process, many nutrients are lost, and the amount of fiber is reduced to a minimum.
Corn is a source of vegetable protein and also an inexpensive filler in the recipe. It is inferior in nutritional value and the presence of a vitamin-mineral complex to wheat, and is included in the same category as rice. Another high-quality component of the feed is purified chicken fat, obtained during the process of boiling chicken meat. The beet pulp contained in the recipe is rich in fiber, which in reasonable quantities makes it a useful ingredient.
The composition of Arden Grange food is represented by a large number of useful components that provide the pet with the necessary vitamins, minerals and other elements. Prebiotics strengthen the immune system, cranberry, rosemary and yucca extract act as antioxidants, and glucosamine, chondroitin, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids have a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system, skin and coat of the animal.

Plant based protein sources
Arden Grange Adult - rich in Lamb & Rice contains two types of cereals - sources of vegetable protein: rice (26%) and corn. Both of them are in the top five ingredients, which means that the content of vegetable protein and carbohydrates in the food is, in general, quite high.
This is a bad indicator, since grains are not included in the natural diet of carnivores, and therefore in large quantities, and especially as a basis for food, are not recommended for them.
In addition, the source and degree of processing of the raw materials is not clear from the names of these components.

The Arden Grange brand was released just over 20 years ago - in 1996, but its history goes back to the very beginning of the 1980s, when Graham and Wendy Stephens, famous dog breeders from England, decided to found two of their own companies.
One of them was organizing hotels for pets, and the second was distributing food for them. The company did not have its own production - it was only a seller selling products from third-party manufacturers to large and small wholesale buyers. By 1987, the Stephens' business had grown significantly: their company began supplying feed to the UK from the USA and became one of the largest distributors not only in their homeland, but also in Ireland. And only 9 years later, the trading company had its own production and brand, as you might guess, called Arden Grange.
Cellulose
The diet contains one type of fiber: beet pulp (No. 6 in the list of ingredients).
In small quantities, this component is quite acceptable and beneficial for the intestines of dogs and cats, but here beet pulp follows immediately after the first five ingredients - which means there is a lot of it in the composition, and it serves not only as a source of fiber, but also as a ballast filler.
Plant products are poorly absorbed by the body of carnivores. A large amount of fiber in the food increases the volume of the food bolus - dogs experience a deceptive feeling of fullness, but the fiber is not digested in their body and leaves it without bringing any benefit.
Why is this food better than others?
English dog food Arden Grange has some advantages over other brands of super-premium food. For example, the amount of meat product in Arden Grange (32%) is slightly higher than in the Bosch brand (24%) or Coach brand (20%).
In all variants of the Arden Grange product line, the meat ingredient comes first in the composition , given the carnivorous nature of the dog, and in the same Bosch, some varieties put rice in first place. Prebiotics FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and MOS (mannanooligosaccharides) promote gut health and normalize the balance of good and bad gut bacteria.
Glucosamine and chondroitin are indicated for animals experiencing joint problems. Large dogs will certainly benefit from these ingredients. At the same time, the exact amount of these substances is not indicated by the manufacturer, so it is unknown whether their presence will have an effect or is it just a publicity stunt.
Yucca Schidigera extract reduces fecal odor.
MSM (methylsulfanylmethane) is a useful supplement and a source of sulfur. It helps to better absorb glucosamine and chondroitin, promotes healthy joints, skin and fur of the animal, and also strengthens its immunity.
Nucleotides are short-chain proteins. It is believed that the addition of this rare component to the diet has a positive effect on animals under metabolic stress, which occurs in dogs of any age.
Nucleotides promote cell renewal, strengthen immunity and improve digestion. In this case, there is very little of this ingredient in the food (it is listed at the end of the list), which means it is doubtful. that it can have beneficial effects on dogs.

I have been feeding my dog this food for 4 years now. Before that, I tried many others, but for a long time I couldn’t find the right one (there was a problem with the toilet, or I was reluctant to eat). We have a Labrador dog. At first, on the advice of breeders, I ate Bento Kronen food, then it was renamed Opti Life. At the nursery, our baby was fed Arden Grange dry food, we decided not to change anything. At first we bought a puppy one, then we switched to an Adult Mini for adult dogs of small breeds.
