Dog food Arden Grange Adult Rich in Lamb & Rice

Animal sources of protein

One fresh meat ingredient was used in the production of the food: fresh lamb (17.5%).
The manufacturer made an advertising move - he combined the first two ingredients and indicated them on the packaging as follows: “Lamb meat (lamb meat meal (23%), fresh lamb meat (17.5%))”, so that at first glance it would seem that the first place in the composition is lamb meat.

In fact, the No. 1 ingredient in the composition is lamb flour (23%) - in principle, this is also a fairly good indicator.

In total, there are four sources of animal protein in the feed: lamb meal (23%), fresh lamb meat (17.5%), powdered eggs and fish meal. The first two of them are in the top five ingredients, which means that the animal protein content is generally average. It’s good that the manufacturer indicates the percentage of the main ingredients in the food.

Fishmeal occupies only 10th place in the composition of food - rather, it is a natural protein component that improves the taste and smell of food, rather than a complete source of animal protein.

Composition of Arden Grange feed

In the composition of the feed, the honorable first place is occupied by lamb meat in the form of dry meat flour - 29%. Meat meal is obtained as a result of dehydrogenation (drying) of meat and its further grinding. The food also contains about 5% fresh meat, which will be reduced by about half after cooking, so the total component of a high-quality meat product is at least 32%.

Arden Grange includes a large number of plant ingredients , with rice alone accounting for about 26%. It is a good source of carbohydrates, especially needed by active dogs for energy. Recently, rice has become actively used in the preparation of dog food as an alternative to wheat. However, during its purification process, many nutrients are lost, and the amount of fiber is reduced to a minimum.

Corn is a source of vegetable protein and also an inexpensive filler in the recipe. It is inferior in nutritional value and the presence of a vitamin-mineral complex to wheat, and is included in the same category as rice. Another high-quality component of the feed is purified chicken fat, obtained during the process of boiling chicken meat. The beet pulp contained in the recipe is rich in fiber, which in reasonable quantities makes it a useful ingredient.

The composition of Arden Grange food is represented by a large number of useful components that provide the pet with the necessary vitamins, minerals and other elements. Prebiotics strengthen the immune system, cranberry, rosemary and yucca extract act as antioxidants, and glucosamine, chondroitin, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids have a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system, skin and coat of the animal.

Attention! Arden Grange dog food does not contain common allergens such as soy and wheat gluten. They are preserved with natural substances – tocopherol and rosemary. The food also contains no GMOs, sugar, salt, artificial colors or flavors.

Plant based protein sources

Arden Grange Adult - rich in Lamb & Rice contains two types of cereals - sources of vegetable protein: rice (26%) and corn. Both of them are in the top five ingredients, which means that the content of vegetable protein and carbohydrates in the food is, in general, quite high.

This is a bad indicator, since grains are not included in the natural diet of carnivores, and therefore in large quantities, and especially as a basis for food, are not recommended for them.

In addition, the source and degree of processing of the raw materials is not clear from the names of these components.

history of the company

The Arden Grange brand was released just over 20 years ago - in 1996, but its history goes back to the very beginning of the 1980s, when Graham and Wendy Stephens, famous dog breeders from England, decided to found two of their own companies.
One of them was organizing hotels for pets, and the second was distributing food for them. The company did not have its own production - it was only a seller selling products from third-party manufacturers to large and small wholesale buyers. By 1987, the Stephens' business had grown significantly: their company began supplying feed to the UK from the USA and became one of the largest distributors not only in their homeland, but also in Ireland. And only 9 years later, the trading company had its own production and brand, as you might guess, called Arden Grange.

Cellulose

The diet contains one type of fiber: beet pulp (No. 6 in the list of ingredients).

In small quantities, this component is quite acceptable and beneficial for the intestines of dogs and cats, but here beet pulp follows immediately after the first five ingredients - which means there is a lot of it in the composition, and it serves not only as a source of fiber, but also as a ballast filler.

Plant products are poorly absorbed by the body of carnivores. A large amount of fiber in the food increases the volume of the food bolus - dogs experience a deceptive feeling of fullness, but the fiber is not digested in their body and leaves it without bringing any benefit.

Why is this food better than others?

English dog food Arden Grange has some advantages over other brands of super-premium food. For example, the amount of meat product in Arden Grange (32%) is slightly higher than in the Bosch brand (24%) or Coach brand (20%).

In all variants of the Arden Grange product line, the meat ingredient comes first in the composition , given the carnivorous nature of the dog, and in the same Bosch, some varieties put rice in first place. And in the super premium food brand Trainer, freeze-dried meat is in third place, behind rice and rice protein.

Despite the small amount of fiber in Arden Grange food (2.5%), there is still more fiber in comparison with other foods. Thus, Monge’s diet contains 2% crude fiber, and Trainer’s contains only 1.55%.

Important! Unlike Fitmin food, Arden Grange does not contain beef, which eliminates the possibility of infecting the dog with dangerous diseases.

A significant advantage of Arden Grange food is its wide range, which allows you to choose a product based on the characteristics of the dog and its health.

Healthy Ingredients

Arden Grange dog food with lamb and rice contains yeast, but the name does not clear the source, composition and degree of processing of the raw materials. The ingredient was probably added to the feed as a source of B vitamins. This ingredient is presented in the list without specification, so it is impossible to evaluate its quality highly.

Prebiotics FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and MOS (mannanooligosaccharides) promote gut health and normalize the balance of good and bad gut bacteria.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are indicated for animals experiencing joint problems. Large dogs will certainly benefit from these ingredients. At the same time, the exact amount of these substances is not indicated by the manufacturer, so it is unknown whether their presence will have an effect or is it just a publicity stunt.

Yucca Schidigera extract reduces fecal odor.

MSM (methylsulfanylmethane) is a useful supplement and a source of sulfur. It helps to better absorb glucosamine and chondroitin, promotes healthy joints, skin and fur of the animal, and also strengthens its immunity.

Nucleotides are short-chain proteins. It is believed that the addition of this rare component to the diet has a positive effect on animals under metabolic stress, which occurs in dogs of any age.

Nucleotides promote cell renewal, strengthen immunity and improve digestion. In this case, there is very little of this ingredient in the food (it is listed at the end of the list), which means it is doubtful. that it can have beneficial effects on dogs.

This food also contains a variety of vitamin and mineral supplements, which are necessary partly due to the lack of minerals and vitamins in the raw materials, partly due to the peculiarities of the technological process for the production of dry food (this is the industry norm, and therefore is not a direct indicator of high or low quality of diet).

Arden Grange dog food reviews

Arden Grange dry food has been sold in Russia for many years. During this time, many dog owners managed to offer it to their pets, and accordingly, many reviews were left on the Internet. Below we have collected some of the newest and most informative ones we found.

Reviews from veterinarians

Unfortunately, it was not possible to find direct reviews from veterinarians about Arden Grange food. If there are any such ones in the future, we will definitely supplement this review with them.

Customer Reviews

Oksana writes:

I have been feeding my dog this food for 4 years now. Before that, I tried many others, but for a long time I couldn’t find the right one (there was a problem with the toilet, or I was reluctant to eat). The dog is sensitive to digestion, so I take the Light line. I buy 15 kg bags, it’s more profitable, but the price is still steep - 4,900 rubles.

The dog is big, more than a bag is spent in a month, and this hits hard on your pocket. That’s why I even tried light series food from other manufacturers a couple of times, but it didn’t work. In the end, even though the price is steep, at least I sleep peacefully without worrying about the dog.

Alexandra writes:

We have a Labrador dog. At first, on the advice of breeders, I ate Bento Kronen food, then it was renamed Opti Life. Everything was fine on it, but due to the rise in the euro exchange rate, it became much more expensive, demand decreased and they stopped transporting it. On the advice of our nursery, we switched to Hills. For the first couple of months everything was normal, but then problems began in the form of constant diarrhea, swollen ears, scratching on the back and sides.

On the Internet I found a rating of dog food, where the prices and quality of different foods were compared. That's how I found out about Arden Grange. Immediately after switching to it, the diarrhea stopped, and a week later the dog stopped itching and the swelling in his ears disappeared. Almost a year has passed since the transition, we bought different flavors - salmon and rice, lamb and rice, ocean white fish and potatoes. The dog ate everything with pleasure.

In my opinion, the most pleasant smell of food with lamb is the meat. Food with white fish smells distinctively like fish, while food with salmon smells like salmon. I didn’t find anything bad in the food, only useful components (meat, fish, vitamins and minerals). The food granules are made in the shape of circles, with a diameter of about 0.8 cm. The packaging is without a fastener, this is a minus, but not critical.

My conclusion is that if you are looking for the perfect food for your dog, then Arden Grange is definitely worth a try.

Olga writes:

At the nursery, our baby was fed Arden Grange dry food, we decided not to change anything. At first we bought a puppy one, then we switched to an Adult Mini for adult dogs of small breeds. Our girl looks great, she is now over 3 years old. The fur is beautiful, shiny, the eyes do not run. He eats the food with pleasure, although I don’t like the smell. But dogs apparently have different tastes. Overall I think the food is good.

conclusions

Arden Grange Adult – rich in Lamb & Rice is based on a mixture of one processed (dried) and one fresh source of animal protein, two vegetable grains and animal fat. This diet contains decent sources of animal protein, but is quite high in plant protein, carbohydrates and fiber, which do not provide any health benefits to the animals.

There are special diets for sale for pets with allergies, including special mono-rations for dogs that contain only one source of animal protein and sometimes even one carbohydrate. As a rule, the least allergenic products from the point of view of nutrition for dogs and cats are chosen for such food, for example, lamb meat and its various derivatives.

The Arden Grange rich in Lamb & Rice diet for adult dogs actually contains a lot of flour and fresh lamb meat. But this product also contains fishmeal, that is, it cannot be called a mono-diet in terms of protein. In addition, this food contains corn, which is generally not healthy, like other grains.

Some adult dogs, especially large breeds, need glucosamine and chondroitin for their joints, and this food contains them.

We also found chelates of various minerals in the composition - this is a good indicator, since such compounds are absorbed in the body much better than inorganic ones. This food is preserved with rosemary extract - it is a natural product, and it is good that the food does not contain any artificial chemical preservatives.

An approach

Arden Grange was the first pet brand that not only decided to produce high-quality food, but also began to use products suitable for human consumption. For example, one of the first proprietary recipes used natural chicken meat.

The company has remained faithful to this approach to this day - premium diets are now produced under a well-known brand. They are hypoallergenic and do not contain artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. The high quality and benefits of Arden Grange products are also noted by consumers who notice positive changes in the appearance and mood of their pets.

Reviews from veterinarians and Arden Grange dog food

Arkady. If we look at the composition of Arden Grange feed, we can see about 32% of the total weight of the meat product. This amount is quite sufficient to satisfy the animal’s needs for protein, and as a result, high-value protein. Don’t be afraid of the phrase “meat meal”; it’s the same meat, only in a dried and ground state. The food contains all the necessary elements for the healthy growth and development of the dog.

Elena. Arden Grange contains good quality ingredients. They contain no preservatives, artificial colors, GMOs, flavors, and the entire line of food is hypoallergenic. Regular consumption of food improves the physical condition of dogs and stimulates their activity. Arden Grange food is natural and pleasant to the taste, so I can confidently recommend it for safe and nutritious nutrition for your pet.

Veterinarians also note that Arden Grange food is of high quality and is suitable for feeding dogs.
