News from NKP "Rottweiler"

The nursery was founded and registered with FCI - RKF in 1998. Owner - Yurina Olga Vladimirovna.

She has been working with Rottweiler dogs for over 30 years.

What attracted me to this particular nursery? I would like to note that I personally do not know either the owners of the kennel or the owners of dogs from this kennel. Nevertheless, there is a website that is very informative and has existed for more than 10 years. But the most important thing for me is the approach of the owner, Olga Vladimirovna, to breeding. He fits my definition of a responsible breeder to the maximum extent possible. In particular, here are some quotes from the nursery website:

Dear future owners of a Rottweiler puppy! It is not so important where and in which kennel you decide to purchase a Rottweiler dog. There are quite a lot of offers. It must be remembered that this dog is intended to be a SERVICE dog. With this breed, you must visit training grounds, primarily for the people around you, observing all the rules for keeping Rottweiler dogs. It will not be a secret to anyone that the Rottweiler breed, due to the negligence of many so-called “rot owners”, is included in the list of disadvantaged breeds.

When purchasing a fat black and tan toddler, people often don’t think about his upbringing and maintenance, feeding him, vaccinating him, raising him - and let him run around for the joy of his mom and dad. The dog of our breed is the smartest, cunning and quite dominant in most cases. A huge number of excellent books sufficiently characterize the Rottweiler. If you still decide to buy a Rottweiler puppy (without experience in keeping a service breed dog), please take the time to read the literature, which spells out the history of the breed and its purpose in black and white. If training is a burden for you, take any other breed, which will not require such discipline. Although, in my personal opinion, any dog should be raised in accordance with the norms and rules applicable to this breed.

And, perhaps, the most important thing for me:

Today, in our nursery, no more than two litters are born per year, due to the rules for admission to breeding. Read the news page, where all the requirements for the father and mother of future puppies are posted. We wish you to make the right choice in purchasing your future pet. The nursery team will always help with advice on raising, recommend professionals in training and handling, as well as a veterinarian to monitor the health of your pet.

Look at the tab on the nursery’s website “For the future owner”

More than the right approach, both for the parents of the puppies (the bitch does not work hard, churning out litters), and for the litter itself. I don’t presume to judge the exterior of the kennel’s dogs - I like absolutely ALL Rottweilers, but it is clear that the described approach provides certain guarantees of a healthy litter with a stable psyche. I am very glad that there are such enthusiasts.

History of the breed

The ancestors of modern Rottweilers were Roman mastiff-like dogs. Huge Molossian dogs were brought to Germany by conquerors arriving from Rome. Particularly noteworthy were the strong and fearless dogs in the city of Rottweil, through which the route of cattle drivers and the road along which many valuable goods were transported passed.

Watchdogs accompanied the carts as guards and also helped cattle drivers in their difficult work. Roman dogs that took root in the new territory had to repel attacks from robbers, predatory animals and dodge the hooves and horns of cattle. Bulls often attacked dogs, so weak representatives of the species had no chance of survival.

Over time, the mastiff-like Roman dogs began to interbreed with the large local shepherd dogs. As a result, a new breed appeared, its name was given in honor of the city of Rottweil. Rottweilers became so popular that they were proclaimed the symbol of the specified settlement. The city's coat of arms featured a Rottweiler surrounded by hams.

Rottweilers were used as herding and guard dogs. These dogs were most valued by farmers for their ability to drive bulls and other livestock. Also, almost every butcher had a formidable guard in the form of a Rottweiler. This was the peak of glory for this species of animal. When the development of railroads began throughout the country and the number of herds of cattle that needed to be driven from place to place was reduced, Rottweilers were no longer needed.

Then began a long and difficult path of development of the breed, with ups and downs:

  • 1882 – the number of purebred Rottweilers decreased to a critical point. At the exhibition, only one dog represented the breed. This species is on the verge of extinction. The reason for this was the development of the railway and the ban on driving livestock over long distances.
  • 1901 - in order to regain their former popularity, Rottweilers had to retrain. They began to be kept as bodyguards, rescuers, watchdogs of houses and government facilities, and they were used by the police. At the beginning of the twentieth century, cynologists decided on the breed standard. Dogs began to take part in exhibitions in different countries. Since that time, neither the character nor the appearance of Rottweilers has changed.
  • 1921 – The first breed club was founded in Germany.
  • 1931 - The first Rottweiler club in America was created.
  • 1946 – after the end of the war with Germany, the first representatives of the Rottweiler breed appeared in Russia.
  • 1990 – the peak of popularity of the Germanic breed in the USA is celebrated. In the nineties, there were more than 100,000 registered purebred Rottweilers in the country.

It would seem that now nothing threatens the population of these dogs. But worldwide fame did not benefit the Rottweilers. There were many breeders who strived for quantity of puppies rather than quality. As a result, the breed's reputation as strong, resilient, intelligent and fearless was ruined. The number of people wanting to have such a pet has dropped sharply. Among the dogs, many sick, weak, poorly developed individuals appeared.

Popularity has returned to this type of animal thanks to a group of breeders who have set themselves the goal of returning Rottweilers to their former glory and all the breed qualities declared by the standard. As a result, modern representatives of the breed are firmly in seventeenth place in the list of registered species.

Character

In films where Rottweilers appear, they are presented as aggressive, vicious dogs that are dangerous to people. Dogs even played demonic heroes. In life, representatives of the breed are indeed very serious and aggressive, but with proper training their aggression is controlled and their anger is justified.

An excellent guard dog should not only be fearless and strong, but also restrained, intelligent, and adequate. These are precisely the traits that are present in the character of a Rottweiler, subject to early socialization and proper upbringing. With such a protector, all household members are safe.

From a young age, the dog determines one owner for itself, treats the rest of the family members in a friendly manner, takes care of them, but carries out commands “with difficulty.” Representatives of the breed are infinitely devoted to the owner; if an adult dog is given to another owner, he will suffer, it will be very difficult to gain his trust and make him obey.

The Rottweiler is affectionate and caring towards children. The dog enjoys playing with the kids. The only problem is that the dog, in the excitement of the game, can accidentally push the child. So, despite friendship, dogs and children cannot be left alone; their games must be supervised by adults.

If you already have a pet in the form of a Rottweiler or are just planning to purchase one, you should familiarize yourself with the following features of the character and behavior of this type of dog:

1. It is recommended to take out insurance, since the Rottweiler can indeed pose a danger in some situations. 2. You cannot leave a Rottweiler alone for a long time; out of boredom and melancholy, the dog can cause damage to property. 3. It is not recommended to keep a Rottweiler in an apartment with small children of preschool age. 4. If you decide to keep other pets together with your Rottweiler, accustom the dog to new residents gradually and carefully. A dog may perceive a cat, rabbit, etc. as prey. 5. It is not recommended to keep same-sex Rottweilers together; they will constantly conflict and start fights.

Maintenance and care

The ideal solution for keeping a Rottweiler is a private yard with a spacious enclosure and a warm kennel. Although apartment maintenance is also not excluded. In both the first and second cases there are rules, the observance of which is not discussed:

1. When keeping in an enclosure, it is necessary to give the dog maximum attention. Walk with her, play, just talk. A Rottweiler should always feel the presence of people, the care and love of its owner.

2. When keeping an apartment, the pet must be provided with daily long (at least an hour) walks. Walking should not be limited to slow walking. Active games, running, jumping, and other physical activities are what the Rottweiler needs for normal development.

Once you have settled your Rottweiler in your home, arrange a resting place for him with a bed or mattress. Do not let the dog sleep on the bed; it will be very difficult to get him out of there. It is also necessary to determine the feeding location and buy separate bowls for water and food. Don't forget about entertainment, even an adult dog enjoys playing with rubber toys, let alone small puppies.

From puppyhood, the pet is taught hygiene procedures:

  • Weekly brushing of the coat.
  • During the molting period, which occurs twice a year, brushing should be done daily.
  • Bathing as needed or 2 times a year. The rest of the time, water treatments are limited to washing paws after walks and wiping the fur with a damp cloth.
  • Check, wipe and clean ears and eyes weekly. If you notice inflammation, irritation or excessive accumulation of discharge, take your dog to the vet immediately.
  • Brush your teeth weekly with toothpaste or buy special teeth for this.
  • Trim the nails as necessary, although in most cases such an active dog as the Rottweiler grinds them down on the road surface.

The owner chooses the method of feeding the pet himself. You can feed dry food or natural products. A large, active dog requires quite a lot of food, but it is impossible to overfeed, otherwise obesity may occur. No matter how you raise your Rottweiler, food should be hidden away from it. This dog is trying to steal everything there is to eat.

Adults are given food twice a day. Clean, cool water should be available to your pet 24 hours a day.

Pros and cons of the breed

The Rottweiler is not an easy breed. Such a dog needs a firm hand and constant control from the owner. Representatives of the breed have many undeniable advantages, but there are also disadvantages.

Pros of the Rottweiler breed:

1. Excellent security and watchdog qualities. 2. High intelligence. 3. Suitable for apartment and aviary keeping. 4. Endurance. 5. Fast learner. 6. Devotion. 7. Easy care. 8. Good attitude towards children.
