Buying from a breeder
If your goal is exhibitions and breeding, or you just want to be sure of the health and pedigree of your four-legged dog, your choice is a nursery. It is better to find a suitable breeder by contacting the RKF (Russian Cynological Federation).
If this is not possible, ask friends and acquaintances of dog lovers where they got their pet. This way you will remain calm about the status and quality of the nursery.
You can really find a good nursery on the Internet. Ask on forums, go to breed groups. Breed lovers will be happy to answer. You should not trust the first lines of search sites - “popularity” may hide banal advertising and promotion. Important - read reviews of nurseries before making a purchase!
When you have decided, contact the breeder directly and find out about the availability of the litter. If the answer is yes, feel free to schedule a meeting and go see the puppies. Pay attention to the living conditions of pets - dogs should not be in cages, housing should be clean and well-groomed. Ask the breeder about the diet of the offspring, ask to see the mother of the offspring - make sure that the bitch is young. Look at the documents and achievements of the parents, the puppies themselves, who should be active, cheerful, and playful.
Visit several places, but remember - a conscientious breeder will not allow you to see puppies if you have been to other nurseries before, in order to prevent infections.
Remember, even if the puppy has titled parents, at 2-3 months even a breed expert will not be able to predict the success of his exhibition career.
Bird markets and pet stores
Beware of buying puppies at bird houses or in pet stores - the goal of such places is to sell goods, they are not interested in the health and well-being of puppies, and are aimed at impulsive purchases by animal lovers.
It is impossible to guarantee living conditions, proper feeding, purebred parents, or the availability of documents. The “charming four-month-old Welsh Terrier” may well grow into a huge mongrel of aggressive appearance. Sick and premature puppies are often sold this way.
“Hands down” on the Internet, from friends
Buying puppies secondhand is a risky business and should only be done if you completely trust the person. Perhaps the mating was planned, and the tailed animals have the necessary documents and excellent health, grew up in good conditions, were vaccinated and dewormed. But there are only a few such advertisements.
Offers often appear with a price tag two to three times lower than the market value and marked “without documents.” Of course, the price is tempting, but if you want a healthy and normal pet, it is better to beware of such advertisements.
Shelter dog
If you do not plan to breed and do not want to spend a lot of money on a puppy from a breeding kennel, it is better to pay attention to dog shelters instead of undocumented breeders.
There you can find a suitable tailed friend, be it an adult dog or a puppy. Sometimes “refuseniks” appear in shelters - purebred dogs with defects that were abandoned by their owners.
Documents and veterinary passport
Are you buying a Welsh Terrier from a kennel? Be sure to study the RKF documents that come with your pet - the papers are issued on the spot. The birth certificate (exchanged for a pedigree at 15 months) must contain two blue seals.
Along with the certificate, the new owner is given a veterinary passport with marked vaccinations, which are given to each puppy at 1.5-2 months.
Most often, the breeder enters into a purchase and sale agreement with the buyer - pay attention to the points and carefully fill out the document.
How to buy a puppy cheaper
If you want a purebred dog, but do not plan to participate in exhibitions and information, pay attention to pet-class puppies - animals with minor defects that do not affect health (bad bite, spots on color). They will make wonderful pets, maintaining the charisma of the breed.
But if breeding is planned, pay attention to the raised puppies. Usually four-legged animals are taken away at 2-3 months, but there are “stale” cases. 4-5 month old cubs are cheaper, already have a formed character and are somewhat more difficult to get used to a new owner.

When the puppy comes home, prepare for the following:
- Training, education, and, accordingly, the behavior of the dog will fall on your shoulders.
- Young pets love to chew on their teeth - inevitable damage will be caused to furniture, wires, and baseboards. To minimize it, stock up in advance on a large number of toys and “bones” for training small teeth.
- You should prepare for the arrival of a puppy in the house in advance - buy a cozy bed, bowls, toys, several packs of diapers, stock up on food and treats for training.
