Dog show in Tver: schedule for 2022

Dog show "Russia": highlights and pressing issues

The international dog show of all breeds “Russia-2018” has ended and it’s time to sum up the results. What was the first big RKF show without Inshakov? Now, with the new president of the RKF, has it gotten better? Or, on the contrary, has it gotten worse? Many people were expecting a change in the President of the Russian Canine Federation. There were no less those whose sympathies were on the side of the previous president. What now? A lot has already been said about the change of presidents in the RKF, and this issue has been brewing for a long time. Inshakov had enough opponents, but there were also supporters of his leadership in the RKF. He did a lot to promote major dog shows in Russia and attract foreign guests and participants to Russian canine exhibitions. It was he who brought the RKF events to the international level and managed to achieve the holding of WDS (World Dog Show)-2016 in Moscow. WDS is the largest canine event in the world, the equivalent of which is the Olympics in humans. And this dog “Olympiad” was held in Moscow, for the first time in its history! His achievement is that RKF now has stands at all major FCI exhibitions abroad, just as we always have a stand at all major exhibitions in Russia FCI and WDS with the opportunity to receive information about the exhibition and register at the stand without unnecessary difficulties. Another huge plus of his work is that volunteer and shelter work has become noticeable at exhibitions. The largest exhibitions became open not only to purebred dogs, but also to refuseniks and mongrel, but no less good, animals. There were also disadvantages in his work, which many dog breeders spoke about more than once and about which they even complained to certain authorities.

And now, the situation has changed, at the head of the RKF there is a new president - Golubev. Vladimir Semenovich Golubev took over the post of President of the RKF on July 4, 2022, when at an extraordinary meeting of RKF members Alexander Inshakov personally transferred powers to the new head of the Federation. According to reviews of breeders from the RKF, the new the President has already shown himself well in organizing the participation of Russian exhibitors at the World Dog Show 2018, held in Amsterdam from August 9 to 11, where our dogs were among the top winners, and even took second place in the main WDS competition - Best in Show. And It was under his leadership that the first major exhibition was held in Russia.

What has changed and what do you remember from the Russia 2018 exhibition?

As sad as it is, the first thing that caught my eye was the decrease in the number of participants. There were noticeably fewer dogs this time than at the last “Russia”. It’s difficult to talk about what this is connected with, but it’s impossible not to notice something like this. One can only hope that this is a temporary decline and after it a new rise awaits us. The number of sponsors and participants in the trading platform has also decreased. Several well-known brands that are constantly present at exhibitions were not present at once. And those who came had smaller stands this time. Either there is no expected return from the exhibition, or it’s something else - again, it’s too early to draw conclusions. One can only observe and compare this with previous seasons, when more dogs were present at “Russia” and there were many different interesting stands with activities. By the way, there were fewer activities this time too. Even the popular “trick” with a photo magnet as a keepsake was only available at one stand this time. Another stand offered to take just a photo in a photo machine, without a magnet. There were no lectures or educational events at this exhibition, neither from the organizers nor from the exhibition partners. True, there were quizzes, but there were fewer of them, and they were more entertaining in nature. Are all these changes related to the change of the president of the RKF or is it a coincidence? This will be fully discussed after the next major exhibition, Eurasia, which will be held in 2022. The closest one, the Golden Collar show of champions, can hardly be a significant indicator in this regard. This exhibition has always stood a little apart. Both its format and its participants are, as they say, a separate story. “Golden Collar” is more of a pre-New Year canine festival, in which only dogs that received titles in the past year take part. And only the best of the best enter this ring, where the annual results of the RKF’s achievements are summed up.

But what can we say about the advantages of the last exhibition “Russia-2018”? Of the undoubted advantages of the exhibition, of course, we can mention the fact that working breeds noticeably rose in the top places of the bests. The “Pride of Russia” prize was awarded to the Black Russian Terrier, and this trend continues for the second year in a row. In the first group, which includes herding dogs, the German Shepherd, another working breed of dog, took first place. In general, there are more working dogs in the rings in general, and this is very nice to see. We can only hope that working lines, and not “extreme” or “show” lines, as they are called, will finally take their rightful place not only at competitions, but also at such exhibitions. A similar trend among decorative breeds is also encouraging – noticeably healthier types of animals are entering the ring, and this is great. A decorative breed, of course, should not work or perform any kind of service; its “service” is to be a companion and little friend. But when we get a dog, no matter what it is, we want to see it first of all healthy, so any breeding should be aimed primarily at maintaining the health of the dogs!

By the way, in one of the regular disciplines at such exhibitions - dancing with dogs - everything is in order with the dogs’ health, as well as with their training. In order to compete in this beautiful discipline, the dog must be in good health (dogs jump a lot, stand on their hind legs) and be well trained, it must have good contact with the owner. If a dog is not good at training, it will not be possible to teach it to perform a rather long routine to music. It’s nice to see that this discipline is gaining more and more fans. Unfortunately, the new format of the exhibition was not without its drawbacks - only non-competition acts and champions performed in the main ring, and most of the dog dancing competitions took place in a separate ring and not even in main hall, parallel to the main ring. This is perhaps the biggest disadvantage of the new exhibition format! It is impossible to be torn apart to be both there and here. We can only hope that in the future the organizers will again abandon this decision, and all spectacular competitions in all rings will end by the time the bests begin. It should be noted that such overlays with bests have never happened before.

But the most striking moments and main advantages of the exhibition are still the meetings with the dogs! Such an exhibition is a unique opportunity to see many different dogs in one place and communicate with them and their owners, and this is what major RKF exhibitions have always been famous for. This time we were able to meet several absolutely charming dogs and learn about one unusual breed.

Dogs at such exhibitions are always friendly and sociable, and their owners, as a rule, do not mind you petting their pet. But - and this is very important! — You should always ask permission to pet the dog. First of all, it's just polite. And secondly, the dog may be prepared to perform in the ring, and then your communication with it can be costly to its owner. Moreover, both figuratively and in the most literal sense - the work of a groomer in preparing a dog for the ring costs a lot. We tried to be polite and asked the owners of all the dogs we liked for permission to pet their pets. Nobody refused! For example, this charming American Bully dog. The young representative of the so-called “fighting” breed, bred on the basis of the Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier, was an example of the correct socialization of the animal, and confirmed those reviews of the character of his breed, which say that this breed is known for its high tolerance towards children and an irresistible desire to please its family . The dog was full of fun and a desire to make friends.

Another interesting animal we encountered turned out to be a mongrel. This dog is a real chimera. Yes, chimeras actually exist, but it has nothing to do with mythical animals. Genetic chimerism is a scientific term meaning the presence of genetically dissimilar cells in the body of an individual. This phenomenon is more common in plants and is the basis for the development of many interesting colors of garden flowers. But in animals, pronounced chimerism is much less common.

Another nice encounter at the show was a young German Shepherd. This beauty was a living advertisement not for a kennel or a breeder, but for a shelter for shepherd dogs in need of help, which is called Shepherd Help. The employees of this shelter love shepherds and try to give a second chance to those who are unlucky enough to be left without an owner in this life.

Beautiful dogs were still waiting for us.

For example, here is a couple of luxurious living symbols of the RKF - dogs of the Russian greyhound breed - met near the stand of their breed. The Russian greyhound is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful and elegant dog breeds, which has become the embodiment of Russian romanticism, and for this was chosen as a symbol of both the RKF and the symbol of the WDS held in Russia in 2016.

We also met the Moscow Watchdog, another unique Russian breed, bred by dog handlers at the Central School of Military Dog Breeding of the USSR in the 50s of the last century. Almost disappeared during “perestroika”, now this excellent working breed is beginning to regain its fans.

But at the stand of the amazing Shalaika breed, there were no living four-legged representatives, alas. Hybrids of Nenets huskies and jackals, amazing in their working qualities, bred by dog handler Klim Sulimov, are considered to have the most sensitive noses in the canine world. They were bred specifically to work in airport security on behalf of Aeroflot, and since 2002 they have also been used as search dogs by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

And this is only a small part of the number of interesting and bright exhibitors. To talk about all of them, no article format is enough, and the best impressions are still your own. So if you love dogs and want to interact with unusual and interesting representatives of rare breeds or with dogs of your favorite breed, come to such large exhibitions. This is a great opportunity to have a lot of fun with dogs and, if you wish, to choose a suitable puppy for yourself, because there you can see the best representatives of the breeds and ask their owners any questions that interest you.
