Pedigree of the dog - purpose and appearance of the document

The puppy itself does not need metrics and pedigree at all. He lives completely carefree and without them. But the owner needs them to be sure that he is getting a healthy puppy. In addition, such documents are needed for those dog breeders who breed elite dogs for sale or plan to participate in Russian and international exhibitions or hunting competitions. And although the document for the puppy only indicates the origin, and not its quality characteristics, it provides more guarantees in acquiring a good purebred dog.

Official receipt of ownership of an animal

Obtaining RKF documents for a dog is regulated by the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (Article 137). In accordance with the law, the acquisition of this property right can occur in one of the possible ways:

  • receiving a litter from a female officially owned by a human;
  • buying a pet;
  • exchange for any item;
  • receiving a four-legged friend as a gift or inheritance;
  • taking from the street and waiting for a period specified by law.

It is worth noting that all of the above primarily applies to purebred animals, since they can be quite expensive. In some cases, it is possible to apply these methods to outbred puppies and kittens.

How does the acquisition take place?

The process of buying a puppy usually occurs on the basis of a purchase and sale agreement. It can be either oral or written (Article 137 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation). In European countries, the sale of a puppy is never complete without a written contract, while in Russia they often settle on an oral agreement.

If the seller is ready to draw up a purchase and sale agreement, you can be confident in his integrity and in the high quality of the purchased animal.

It is also worth noting that, on the basis of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation (Article 179), taxes are not collected from the offspring of one’s own dog.

Documents for the dog required when purchasing it

When purchasing a dog, a purchase and sale agreement is drawn up between the future owner and the seller. A package of necessary documents is attached to it. These include:

  • puppy card;
  • veterinary passport;
  • pet's pedigree;
  • puppy inspection report;
  • the act of mating breeding dogs.

This video talks about how to get documents for an adult dog.

Puppy metrics (puppy card, “puppy”)

This is the main document that a puppy is required to purchase. The dog's metric contains detailed information:

  • puppy breed;
  • pet's name;
  • parents' nicknames;
  • parents' pedigrees;
  • color;
  • date of birth of the animal;
  • brand;
  • The buyer’s personal information is indicated in a special column – “puppy owner”.

In addition, you need to take into account some nuances.

  • The puppy's certificate must bear the seal of the kennel or club that issued the puppy.
  • The puppy's certificate must be issued in two copies. One of them will be in the hands of the dog’s owner, and the second will be transferred to the canine organization (RKF) to obtain a pedigree.

Pedigree of dogs

A dog's pedigree is an official document issued by the Russian Cynological Federation or a similar organization (for example, SKOR) when the puppy reaches six months of age. In RKF it can be obtained until the dog is 15 months old. The pedigree is provided on the basis of the mating certificate, the puppy inspection certificate, as well as the pedigrees of the parents.

The pedigree contains the following information:

  • date of birth of the pet;
  • nickname;
  • breed;
  • floor;
  • color;
  • information about the puppy's owner;
  • breeder;
  • information about parents up to 3-4 generations indicating nicknames, grades, diplomas.

The act of mating breeding dogs

This is a document that confirms the fact of mating of a male and female. It contains information about the mating date, the names of the dogs' owners and the mating conditions. The mating act is drawn up in triplicate with the obligatory signatures of both parties. One of them will be kept at the place of registration of mating, and the other two will be kept by the owners of breeding dogs.

The act of breeding dogs is a mandatory document; without it, it will be impossible to certify the future litter.

Puppies inspection report (certification)

Within no more than one and a half months from the date of birth of the puppy, it must be given a nickname officially registered in the organization. After this, specialists draw up an inspection report for the puppy in the form of a description of the litter on a standard form. It indicates such parameters as color, characteristics of a particular breed, physical development and diseases and behavioral characteristics.

This video talks about how much it costs to get documents for a dog and how to avoid scammers.

Veterinary passport

After purchasing a puppy, the necessary action is to visit a veterinary clinic to obtain a veterinary passport. This document will contain information about the vaccinations performed (name of the vaccine and date of vaccination). It also contains information about the pet (name, breed and age).

A veterinary passport is an international document; it is required when transporting a puppy, when participating in exhibitions or competitions. It reflects the pet’s health status and all veterinary actions in relation to it.

If you have questions regarding paperwork for a dog, ask them in the comments to this article.

So, you have decided to become the happy owner of a purebred dog with documents. But what lies behind these words? What is a “documented dog”? Let's figure out what documents for a dog are. What are they, which of them confirm the breed and origin of the animal, which documents are necessary to export the animal abroad, and which ones indicate the health of the animal?

How to check the pedigree of RKF

Recently, substitution of pedigrees has often occurred, especially if the dog was purchased not from a professional nursery, but on the market. For those buyers who have doubts, you can use several options for checking the puppy's pedigree.

By appearance

The authentic dog pedigree document has special watermarks and holograms with the profile of the greyhound. You can also determine the dog's breed by appearance. First of all, it is necessary to determine the puppy’s height and weight. Qualify the type of body, head configuration, fit and type of ears, type of tail, structure and quality of coat.

Next, the information received is compared with the official characteristics of the proposed suit according to the reference standard. To do this, you can use international standards, which are expanded by the standards of Russian canine authorities.

If the found characteristics coincide with the official ones, then we can assume that the puppy’s breed has been visually identified. However, there are still several difficult steps to go through before official recognition.

According to the application to the RKF

Such an application can be sent to the organization only if the puppy has the RKF mark, otherwise the owner will be denied the submitted application. It is possible to transmit it electronically in a special section of the official website of the Federation, but it would still be safer to personally go to the RKF branch at your place of residence and draw up the document there.

Checking via the Internet

Despite the apparent simplicity of checking a dog’s pedigree by number via the Internet, this is impossible to do in Russia. This is due to the need to protect the personal data of dog breeders and owners, as well as information about the animals themselves.

Attention! Restrictions on searching for information via the Internet work against scammers who are able to sell animals with fake pedigrees.

Documents for a puppy

Let's start from the beginning. You found an advertisement for the sale of a purebred puppy, called the breeder, perhaps even went to look at the dog, and in the conversation the seller tells you that the dog is for sale with documents. At this very first stage, you need to check with the seller what specific papers he will hand over the puppy to you with. There is no need to be shy or afraid of seeming inexperienced. Believe me, a decent breeder will not be surprised or hesitant by your question and will answer your question without delay.

So, the required documents when selling a purebred puppy are:

  1. Veterinary passport of the animal
  2. A document indicating the origin of the puppy (usually called a puppy certificate, puppy card or puppy passport)

Important! If the puppy is under six months old, then it cannot have a pedigree for the reason that the pedigree is issued only after the animal is six months old. If they are trying to sell you a 2-month-old puppy with a pedigree instead of puppy metrics, then this is a scam!

Let's take a closer look.

Veterinary passport of the puppy

An international animal veterinary passport is made in the form of a small book on the pages of which, throughout the dog’s life, notes will be placed on all your pet’s vaccinations and on the treatment of the animal against parasites.

The initial pages of the international veterinary passport are used to enter basic data about the dog, namely: nickname, breed, owner’s name. A sticker with the dog’s chip number is also pasted here if the animal is microchipped.

It is important to understand one essential point. A veterinary passport is issued to any animal upon first visit to a regular veterinary clinic. It is in no way proof of the animal’s breed, since to obtain it, the veterinarian does not ask for any documents confirming the owner’s words.

A dog needs a veterinary passport for one main purpose - to prove that your pet does not threaten the health and life of people and other animals. Confirmation of this fact are records (usually stickers) on preventive vaccination against infectious diseases and a note on the mandatory annual vaccination against the rabies virus, which is mandatory in all countries of the world!

Without this note in the animal’s veterinary passport, you will not be able to travel abroad with your dog, your animal will not be able to take part in dog shows or any cynological events, and will not be allowed for breeding and breeding activities.

Important! A veterinary passport is not a confirmation of the dog’s breed, despite the fact that the dog’s breed is indicated in it.

Why is a pedigree needed?

Documents for a dog
Pedigree is a document created by legal organizations certifying the origin of a puppy, which displays all the information about him and his grandparents. It is approved by the official body of SKOR and RKF, in whose archives there are materials on the head of the clan on the maternal side. They also have the right to change the puppy’s metric to its pedigree.

Despite the fact that both organizations set themselves the same goals in cynology, according to the current situation, the transfer of documents from one organization to another and back is not allowed. Only participation in joint exhibitions is possible.

Before making a pedigree for a dog, the owner must understand how the two leading cynological organizations in Russia differ and why it is necessary to correctly prepare all the documents for the animal.

History of the breed

Document confirming the origin of the puppy

The paper, which is popularly called “puppy card” by dog lovers, is officially called a puppy metric or puppy card. It states the breed, nickname, date of birth, gender, brand or chip, parents' nicknames and their pedigree numbers (!!!), as well as the names and addresses of the breeder (owner) of the bitch and the future owner of the puppy.

The puppy's metric is divided into two parts by a cutting line. When exchanging it for a pedigree, the upper half is given to a canine organization, and the lower spine remains with the owner until the pedigree is ready.

PEDIGREE (EXTRACT FROM VERK)

The RKF pedigree (extract from the RKF VERK) is a document confirming that your dog is purebred and that it is registered in the All-Russian Unified Pedigree Book of the RKF (VERK).
For dogs born starting June 1, 2022, you can register a pedigree in one of two options:

1. CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN OF A SINGLE SAMPLE . It is issued in two languages (Russian and English) and contains the following information: registration number, dog breed (indicating the variety if available), dog name, date of birth, gender, letter code and brand number (required), chip number (optional), color, surname, name and registration address of the breeder, surname, name and registration address of the dog owner, basic information about three generations of the dog’s ancestors (pedigree numbers, full names, titles, working tests, health and mental test results). Such a pedigree gives the right to participate in any zootechnical events in Russia and abroad, to obtain any national and international titles. If the necessary admission conditions are met, a dog with such a pedigree can be used in breeding. In case of transfer of a dog into the possession of a foreign citizen, the mark “Export” is affixed to the Certificate of Origin of a single sample.

2. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION OF THE DOG IN VERK . Contains all the basic information about the dog itself and about one generation of its ancestors. Gives the right to participate in zootechnical events at the national level and to obtain national titles. Does not give the right to participate in breeding. It is not a basis for registering a dog in the stud book of another country (in case the owner leaves for permanent residence abroad or the dog is transferred into the possession of a foreign citizen, a Certificate of Origin of a single sample with the mark “Export” must be issued).

For dogs born before May 31, 2022 inclusive, at the request of the owner, old-style pedigrees can be issued (in Russian or English); applications for their production are accepted strictly until November 30, 2022 and are completed until December 31, 2022. From December 1, 2022, applications will only be accepted for the production of new pedigree samples, regardless of the dog’s date of birth.

What do documents for a puppy look like?

But here some difficulties begin. The fact is that there are several cynological organizations that keep records of the number of purebred dogs in the territory of the former CIS. Which canine organization is better is not the subject of today's discussion. Let's just say that the most widespread and largest in the world is the FCI (FCI), its full members in Russia are the RKF (Russian Cynological Federation), Ukraine - KSU (Cynological Union of Ukraine), Belarus - BKO (Belarusian Cynological Association), Kazakhstan — SKK (Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan).

Below are examples of what a puppy's certificate issued by these organizations should look like (click to enlarge):

Attention! If you buy a puppy, for example, in Ukraine with a puppy certificate issued by the RKF, then in 99% of cases it is a fake and fraud. Puppies outside of their country of birth are sold with export pedigrees and not with puppy metrics.

How to register a pedigree for a dog brought from abroad

In order for a dog brought from abroad to be registered in the RKF system, it is necessary to contact the kennel club with an export pedigree and a certificate of ownership or other title document. After submitting all the necessary documents, the dog owner will receive a Certificate of Registration of a foreign dog with the Verkhovna Rada.

If you encounter any difficulties in the process of registering your pedigree, you can write to us at [email protected] with a detailed description of the problem.

NB! Before applying, be sure to read the full text of the RKF Regulations on breeding work , it contains comprehensive information.

What documents confirm the dog's breed?

The only document confirming the breed and origin of the dog is the pedigree (if we are talking about a puppy, then the puppy metric, also known as the puppy card). Remember once and for all: if your dog does not have a pedigree, then it cannot be considered a purebred. It is in the dog’s pedigree that the ancestors up to the 3rd or 4th generation are recorded; it is this that confirms that if you buy, for example, a Chiuhahua puppy, then his grandfather was definitely not a Russian Toy!

You have the right to be offended and prove that you have a purebred dog, but if the dog does not have supporting documents, it is just a dog that looks like a representative of the breed.

Below are examples of what a dog's pedigree looks like (click to enlarge):

So, we figured out what the documents for a dog look like. Now let's figure out how they are made.

How to obtain a RKF pedigree for a puppy with the metric of an alternative canine organization

If your dog has a puppy certificate from an alternative cynological organization (not RKF), then in order to obtain a RKF pedigree, you must first register a pedigree with the canine organization that issued the puppy certificate. Then:

  1. with the received pedigree, come to the nearest RKF kennel club, where the owner will be asked for consent to the processing of personal data, pedigree and consent to a truncated version of the RKF pedigree (in case the origin of the dog cannot be established);
  2. pay a target contribution to the club;
  3. come to the club for your pedigree at the appointed time.

How to make documents for a dog

If you bought a purebred puppy from a responsible breeder, then at the time of purchase you were given the puppy's metrics, which we wrote about above. Upon reaching the age of six months, you should contact any branch of the canine organization that issued you the puppy’s certificate to exchange the certificate for the pedigree.

You do not have to contact the local department that issued the document. The easiest way would be to go to the website of the canine organization in your country (listed in the table above), select a branch near you and contact them.

If you bought a dog without documents, but you think that your pet is truly purebred and want to register a pedigree for it, then you can do it as follows: at dog shows there are special breed confirmation rings in which you need to register in advance and undergo an examination from three different judges. Next, having three descriptions of the dog, you can contact the canine organization to issue a registered pedigree (the so-called “zero” - a pedigree without indicating the dog’s ancestors).

Important! Recently, the FCI has banned the breeding activities of dogs with registered pedigrees. Thus, you will not be able to breed and have offspring from such a dog, but can only take part in dog shows for your own pleasure.

What is a dog's pedigree and why is it needed?

Pedigree is a document confirming the origin of a dog from purebred parents, its ancestors on both lines. Such a document is important when it comes to breeding animals and further selling puppies.

Any puppy must have standards, and the presence of a pedigree allows you to confirm the absence of any impurities in previous litters. As a rule, such dogs are bred by selecting a pair based on some characteristics that improve subsequent offspring. The higher the rank of the ancestors, the higher the cost of such puppies.

Purebred dogs take part in relevant exhibitions, contribute to the breeder’s own respect and are his pride. The dog's pedigree is an extract from previously entered information about ancestors in the VERK (All-Russian Unified Pedigree Book).

Documents for taking a dog abroad

To travel with a dog outside of your home country, you will definitely need:

  • International veterinary passport, filled out in English. The passport must indicate the dates of vaccinations and deworming of the animal. The dog must be vaccinated against rabies!
  • Veterinary certificate F1 (aka Form No. 1). The certificate is issued only at the state veterinary hospital on the basis of the dog’s veterinary passport and is valid for 3 days. When crossing the border, the certificate changes to an international veterinary certificate.

Attention! Always check the details of passing veterinary control at a specific checkpoint! They can differ significantly!

The above describes the general and unchanged requirements for all countries. However, depending on which country you decide to import the dog into and which region it is being exported from, a huge number of additional nuances may appear. For example, to import dogs into the EU from Ukraine, you will be required to test for the presence of rabies antibodies, which is done six months (!) before the planned border crossing. That is why you should find out the entire list of documents only from official sources and only in your specific case.

So, perhaps, we have looked at the main documents that a dog may have. If you have any questions or additions, be sure to write in the comments and we will try to help you.

It is impossible to live without documents in the twenty-first century, and not only for people, but also for dogs. For mongrel “bobbies” who do not claim a pennant or title, ordinary certificates and a veterinary passport are enough. Others are required to confirm their family tree. That is why the question of how to get documents for a dog arises sooner or later for everyone who has decided to have a four-legged friend.

Dog with documents

What could be the pedigree?

There is a Russian version, which is valid only within the country, and an export version - it will be useful for those who regularly export their pets abroad.

A sample of an export pedigree for a dog looks like this (the form below is filled out in English):

Puppy metric

Following the example of human children, a puppy must have a special metric, which, when it reaches a certain age, will be replaced with a full-fledged, “adult” document with official genealogies. The card also indicates all the features of a particular representative of the breed. If fundamental deficiencies are identified, it is necessary to make a note that the individual does not represent breeding value.

The card contains basic information about the puppy:

Attention: in addition to the data, it is important to study stamps and signatures. The card must have a stamp and the full name of the institution where it was received, as well as the data (signature with transcript) of the official.

Puppy metrics

The top and bottom of a document serve different purposes. What is above the cut line is then transferred to the Russian Cynological Federation. The bottom form remains with the owner. It is important not to lose a copy, because if the official pedigree is lost, it will only be possible to restore it using it. You will also need it when registering for the exhibition. But only until the dog turns one year and three months old - from that moment on, the “puppy” is invalid. Until this moment, it must be exchanged for a full-fledged pedigree. No one bothers you to do it later if you failed to attend to the issue in time, but being late is fraught with a fine.

Certificate of origin of the dog

Filling rules

Like any other identification document, the metric must be filled out correctly. All words are written in full, in legible printed letters. It should be remembered that as an RKF employee understands this or that word, he will then write it in the pedigree.

Actually, very little is required from the owner:

  • provide your passport information and address;
  • remember the index of your place of residence.

The latter must fit in; without the index, they won’t take the “puppy.”

Is it possible to make documents without a puppy card?

Metrica is a guarantee of a smooth receipt of an adult document in the future. Without a card, you will only be able to obtain a registered pedigree. It confirms the fact of belonging to the breed, but you can forget about exhibitions and prizes.

Registered pedigree

Types of pedigrees

The classification of these pedigree documents occurs according to criteria: A, B and C.

  • The first group is considered a pedigree of an absolute species, it indicates all representatives of the 5 previous generations.
  • In the second group, there is information only about the father and mother of the puppy.
  • Group C or registered pedigree has a minimum of information about the pet: nickname, breed and owner’s name.

Pedigree RKF

In Russian federation

The existing state canine system accepts two types of pedigrees: domestic and international.
If the dog owner has only received an internal pedigree, the dog will not be able to take part in international competitions. For reference! Experts explain this fact by the rivalry of a number of cynological organizations among themselves, due to which they mutually do not recognize each other’s documents.
In Russia, the most popular is the RKF, which draws up three types of dog pedigrees:

  • red - for special ancestors of the challenger who held the title of champion;
  • green - issued to puppies whose ancestors met all the breed criteria and had the appropriate diplomas;
  • yellow - issued to puppies whose ancestors only had registration documents.

Export RKF

International pedigree

Not all foreign canine documents are recognized by the RFK. The domestic organization is part of the structure of the International Canine Organization (FCI) and is considered its official representative in Russia.

The FCI approves pedigrees from the UK and USA, although these countries are not considered members. So in case a puppy is transported from these states, its new place of origin will be RFK.

Another serious international organization is the International Kennel Union - the International Kynological Union (IKU) with an official office in the Russian Federation. This union connects fourteen systems of the EU, USA and CIS countries. If the owner purchases a dog with an IKU pedigree, regardless of which state, it will not be accepted and considered by the Russian Federation of Cynologists.

International Kennel Union

Preparing documents for a pet

Official family trees for four-legged friends are issued by the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF) and the Union of Cynological Organizations of Russia (SCOR). Other institutions also sometimes issue, as they claim, pedigrees and even official ones. Official - in the sense that they act officially, on behalf of their legal entity. But such a document will have no force. Essentially it's a souvenir.

The documents issued by RKF and SKOR are different and have different validity. This does not mean that one establishment is bad, another is good. The owner must clearly know his goals, what he expects to get from his “bobby” and how to bring him “into the world.” So, if your plans include competitions and prizes not only within the Russian Federation, but also abroad, and the opportunity to have offspring through any club, then you should definitely go to the RKF. It is their wards that are most valued.

Dog with documents

But “bobbies” with SKOR papers will be able to participate in events and reproduce only through this organization.

Attention: owners of the SKOR pedigree can also be recognized in the RKF. The dog must undergo testing in the form of three exhibitions and an assessment by three experts. If they do not notice any flaws, the owner will be given a registered RKF pedigree. With it you can participate in events, compete and even receive prizes - any, except for the Champion title.

Table. Types of pedigrees and their participation in events.

Beware: fakes!

It is best to obtain evidence of the origin of the “bobby” directly from a representative. It is clear that in poultry markets or private individuals there is a high chance of getting defective offspring, even if they all claim to be purebred. It is also necessary to take into account that in Russia absolutely everything is forged, even people’s passports, let alone veterinary and canine papers. The original document contains all the necessary signatures and seals, is equipped with watermarks, a coat of arms and a hologram. Crude fakes are immediately visible; they have neither watermarks nor holograms. Such sellers rely either on complete laymen or careless owners who will not check anything. But sometimes there are more expensive fakes that even an expert cannot immediately distinguish from real ones.

Titled purebred dog

That is why, if the purity of your pet is not an empty phrase for you, never get involved with private individuals. And it doesn’t hurt to check the metric. It is imperative that the document bears the seal of the institution and the signature of the director.

Where to submit documents?

Representatives of kennel clubs submit documents and paid receipts for obtaining official pedigrees to the RKF Central Office in Moscow. Previously, dog breeders did not have to resort to their mediation. In 2022, it will not be possible to correct the genealogy without representatives of cynological organizations.

Registration of pedigree

The process of obtaining an official pedigree for a pet consists of the following steps:

  • go to the administration of the kennel where the puppy was purchased or to the city kennel club;
  • find out if they are engaged in registration of pedigrees;
  • agree on a time frame (this will take approximately three months);
  • leave a puppy card;
  • appear at the appointed time for the finished pedigree.

Actually, the adult document looks like an extended version of the “puppy” and contains references to:

  • breed;
  • name;
  • date of birth;
  • suits;
  • gender;
  • owner and breeder;
  • stamp number.

To this is added a family tree with clan numbers and titles. On the back there is a protective holographic image in the form of a greyhound's head.

RKF emblem

How to obtain an export pedigree

An export pedigree is issued if the owner of the dog is not a citizen of the Russian Federation. It is necessary in order to register the dog with the Kennel Club of the country where the pet’s owner lives.

To get it you need:

  1. go to the nearest RKF kennel club;
  2. pay a target contribution to the club;
  3. provide the club with the top part of the puppy card, say that an export pedigree is required, and sign a consent to the processing of personal data;
  4. come at the appointed time for the finished export pedigree (please note that there must be an inscription Export Pedigree in the upper right corner).

If you live in another state and want to issue an export pedigree for a dog purchased in Russia, you can contact one of the RKF federations at the address: [email protected] , attaching to the letter a copy of the puppy’s birth certificate received from the breeder. Our employees will check whether the litter is registered and send you the details for transferring the target contribution.

NB! To register an export pedigree, the dog must have a chip.

How to read a dog's pedigree

The purity of the breed is judged by three generations - they will be reflected according to FCI standards. Fathers are placed above the records about mothers, grandfathers - above grandmothers. Information about the owner is entered on the left side of the sheet. It is necessary to carefully check whether all registration numbers are present. Even if there is all the data up to the great-great-grandfather, but one of the members of the dog family does not have a number, the purebred is in question.

Pedigree SKOR looks like this

How to decrypt

How to decipher
the RKF pedigree has a registration number, for example RKF ХХХХХХХ - under which the dog is registered in the federation. This is a kind of informational family tree for the animal. In addition, each purebred dog has a mark or brand/chip, for example, NGO 45X - under this number it is registered in the All-Russian Book of the RKF. Next, indicate the full details of the breeder who gave birth to the puppy and the owner of the dog.

Designations of numbers in the puppy's pedigree certificate:

  • 1 father's nickname;
  • 2 mother’s nickname and so on until number 13;
  • 13 nickname of maternal grandmother's great-grandfather;
  • 14 nickname of the great-grandmother of the maternal grandmother.

What is zero or registered pedigree?

Even the owners of purebred dogs do not always have the opportunity to say exactly who their parents were and how valuable they were in breeding terms. In such cases, a document is drawn up that, apart from the fact that a particular dog belongs to a certain breed, does not guarantee anything. This is the zero pedigree. The dog for which the document is issued is its own ancestor.

Zero Pedigree Sample

Whether this is good or bad depends on the plans and ambitions of the owner. Of course, he points out that what the evaluator is looking at is not an ordinary yard “bug”, but a purebred animal. You can get to Russian exhibition events with such paper, but not to international and foreign ones. But if you approach breeding with all responsibility, then the sons and daughters of the “Bobby” have every chance to realize the high ambitions of the owner and receive high titles, as well as a full-fledged pedigree, listed all over the world.

Why do ordinary dog breeders need genealogy?

A pedigree is required, strictly speaking, only to satisfy the ambitions of the owner and his business if, for example, he has organized a nursery and is breeding dogs. He needs a dog not only to give her unconditional love and receive reciprocal tenderness and affection, but also material benefit, a sense of significance.

For ordinary loving owners who have no idea what kind of tribe their favorite is, pedigree is not so important, because love for our smaller brothers is either there or not, and no papers with serious abbreviations and coats of arms will affect this. It is enough to visit the veterinarian regularly and have a basic set of documents. But for owners of purebred individuals, if there are plans for breeding, even if not for business purposes, it is better to take care of obtaining a pedigree.

The main question: why do ordinary dog breeders need a pedigree?

Some owners get an animal for the hobby, some - for constant trips to exhibitions, raising a thoroughbred winner and a real champion. This often happens: at first they take a puppy, without being interested in the documents accompanying it, and only after that they begin to wonder about the origin of the baby, who his mother, father are - close and distant canine relatives.

I would like to give the following advice to those who are just planning to get a pet: if you do not plan to devote your life to breeding toy terriers, beagles, spitz dogs or Dobermans, collect all the titles and excellent marks in competitions for our smaller brothers, you don’t need to register a pedigree in order to it didn’t gather dust behind glass like a useless piece of paper that was only taken out to show off to guests. But for those who want their dog to become a star at Russian and international exhibitions or to continue a glorious family line, they will need important paper.

And don't forget: the animals you tamed will always be your true friends. Appreciate them regardless of whether they have a certificate of noble birth or not.

Documents for the mongrel

In the modern world, any dog needs documents, and therefore a responsible owner, if he really loves and takes care of his pet, and is not just pretending, will definitely take care of this issue. Outbred “bobbies” do not need a pedigree, but a veterinary passport will always be needed.

Veterinary passport cover

This is a document where the following is written:

  • animal name;
  • owner data;
  • approximate or exact age of the animal;
  • information about the breed (usually put a dash if it is a mongrel or there are simply no documents for the person being examined);
  • owner contact information;
  • information about vaccinations received.

Thanks to stickers with dates and names of medications, you can accurately track the frequency and not once again wonder when exactly you took your pet for an injection and whether the next vaccination is due.

The passport has twenty-six pages, is produced only in a printing house, and is issued exclusively in veterinary clinics.

What papers are needed for the exhibition?

Export genealogy is needed if an international event is planned. For the Russian Federation, it is enough to have a SKOR pedigree or even a registered one.

When registering an export pedigree, you must provide a copy of the Russian certificate to the RKF and a paid receipt for the service.

Reasons for missing documents

The absence of papers is a reason not to deal with the owner, even if you are closely acquainted with him. There must be at least a passport confirming that the four-legged friend is vaccinated and does not pose a danger to others. If only “whiskers, paws and tail” act as documents, there can be no talk of cooperation. No one can guarantee that such a dog is healthy. In addition, the purity of generations is at risk.

So it is better to cooperate not with sellers at poultry markets, but with representatives of kennel clubs or federations.

Documents required for travel

For different situations, the dog's owner will need a different number of papers.

So for traveling within the Russian Federation it is enough:

  • veterinary passports;
  • a document confirming that the dog belongs to a specific owner;
  • veterinary certificate for participation in exhibitions, if any are planned.

    This is what the certificate looks like

The veterinary passport confirms that the dog is healthy and vaccinated against:

  • rabies,
  • hepatitis A,
  • viral enteritis,
  • plague,
  • adenovirus,
  • leptospirosis.

Attention! All vaccinations must be current!

For visits to a Customs Union country, this set also requires a Customs Union certificate. If you are traveling to another country, you also need a veterinary certificate, a certificate of the presence of rabies antibodies and a customs declaration. You can read more about how to transport a dog around Russia in our article.

Please note: this is a basic set. Additionally, other papers may be required. To avoid getting into an unpleasant situation, you need to carefully study the requirements for entry and import of pets into the country where you are going. You can find out this at the state embassy or the web page of the Russian Embassy in the country.
