Faithful Palm. The real story of the legendary shepherd from Vnukovo airport (3 photos + 1 video)

Cartoons about dogs

One such hero is Dingo, who walks on two legs like a man, but has the head of a dog with long floppy ears. He often appears on screen as a "talking dog" in various educational programs, including a road safety program aimed at young children. Droopy, the sad-eyed dog from Tex Avery's cartoons, constantly announces his arrival with the now famous phrase: “Guys, what can I tell you! I'm happy!". Pluto is the only Walt Disney hero who is not endowed with eloquence and is not humanized to the extreme.

Other Disney dogs, in their behavior, seem to be no different from people, while remaining companion animals or guards for their owners. This is Lady and the Tramp, who have a romantic dinner together and live a “human” life among other dogs. When a baby appears in the house, the owners ignore Lady and humiliate her by forcing her to wear a muzzle. It serves as a rude reminder that she is just a dog.

Perdita and Pongo - the main characters of the Disney cartoon about dogs "101 Dalmatians" (perhaps the most famous cartoon dogs) - are also companion animals. But they have the same romantic feelings for each other as their owners.

St. Bernard Nana from the cartoon "Peter Pan" is a caring nanny who protects children, although she leads the same life as other dogs.

Sometimes the appearance and behavior of doggies are depicted in cartoons about dogs in an almost caricatured way. They may look like a dog in appearance, but some of their physical features are exaggerated. They are rarely the main characters, but more often serve as watchdogs for their master or another animal. Dog cartoons depicting cat and mouse often feature a huge, rude, unfriendly dog who seems to do almost nothing but lie lazily or chase the cat. So, in the animated series “Tom and Jerry” the bulldog protects the mouse Jerry, causing trouble for the cat Tom.

By imbuing dogs with many human qualities, both good and bad, comic book and cartoon creators use them to portray the society we live in and what it may be like tomorrow.

New friend

Pilot Vyacheslav Valentey could not take the dog for himself due to constant travel. But even without him, there were enough people willing to shelter the dog. The most persistent of all was Vera Kotlyarevskaya from Kiev, a relative of the classic of Ukrainian literature Ivan Kotlyarevsky. The palm tree might not fall into the hands of a stranger. She even approached the Ilams warily, and stood near the planes, ready to rush away at any moment. Knowing about the dog’s distrust, Vera Kotlyarevskaya took a vacation and settled in Vnukovo for a month. The woman won Palma's trust. However, the animal had to be transferred to Kyiv. Kotlyarevskaya gave the dog sleeping pills, and then boarded a flight with him to the Ukrainian capital.

Waking up in Kotlyarevskaya’s apartment, Palma did not show aggression, but constantly tried to escape. The new owner had to keep the balcony and windows closed. Six months later, Palma got used to her new home. Later she gave birth and stopped running away.

Cartoons about dogs for kids

Brave and undaunted or timid cowards, brilliant geniuses or reckless dupes, dogs always remain faithful to their friends. The little fox terrier Milu never leaves his owner Tintin in a difficult situation. This is an inseparable couple, and the tireless Milu is always ready to help. It is easy for Tintin, as well as viewers and readers, to understand what the dog wants to communicate with his barking.

Another example is Rantanplan, Lucky Luke's faithful companion, and his partner, the smart horse Jolly Jumper. Rantanplan is not the smartest dog in the West, but he brings out all the best qualities of his owner. Another devoted friend is Dogmatix (aka Idefix), who never leaves his owner in trouble.

Of course, dogs can be loyal to each other and to other animals. This is perfectly illustrated by Lady and the Tramp from the cartoon of the same name, the Fox and the Hunting Dog (“The Fox and the Hound”) and Perdita and Pongo (“101 Dalmatians”). Despite the difficulties they face, these heroes always maintain a strong affection for each other and do everything possible to save their friends, even if they themselves are in mortal danger.

Film Palma

The events take place in 1977. Igor Petrovich Polsky is located at Moscow Vnukovo airport. Our hero has been assigned to work as a sales representative and is preparing to fly off on a long overseas business trip to Prague with a shepherd named Alma, which his colleagues gave him for his birthday. However, while checking documents before boarding the plane, Igor encounters difficulties. He can’t find a veterinary certificate, which is necessary to transport the dog.

Without this document, the airport management refuses to take the shepherd on board. Igor Petrovich makes several attempts to persuade the head of the flight squad to allow him to take the dog on board or to issue a new veterinary certificate on the spot. But all to no avail. The heartbroken owner is forced to let go of the leash and fly away without his pet. Alma, devoted to her owner, does not understand what is happening. She rushes at full speed behind the plane accelerating down the runway.

Igor flew away, and Alma, who remained on the airfield, is hiding on the airport grounds. Every day she comes running to meet all landing IL-18 planes. She learned to recognize them by sound. The dog hopes that its owner, who flew on just such a plane, will return to it on the same plane.

And then one day a boy Kolya arrives from Sverdlovsk on one of these liners. He is nine years old, he recently lost his mother and came to live in Moscow with his father, pilot Vyacheslav Lazarev. Vyacheslav left his wife and son many years ago for a career as a pilot and has never seen them since. At the airplane parking lot, a boy saves the shepherd Alma from airport security officers who are trying to catch her and take her away from the airport.

Kolya is the only one at the airport whom the dog, yearning for its owner, allows to approach. Having learned the dog's sad story, the boy gets the idea to help her find her owner. Nina, an airport employee, tells Kolya that she did not clearly hear how Igor Petrovich addressed his dog - either Alma or Palma. The boy decides that he will call her Palma. He and his dog greet passengers on arriving flights.

An incident at the airport involving a dog abandoned by its owner and faithfully awaiting his return is receiving wide publicity. The society hopes that Alma will definitely wait for her owner. Management begins to threaten Igor Petrovich with dismissal if he does not pick up his dog from the Moscow airport. However, the boy Kolya has already become attached to Palma and does not want to part with her. He asks his father to help him with this. Vyacheslav Lazarev will have to earn the trust and love of his own son. He will find a way so that his son and Alma will not be separated when Igor Petrovich Polsky returns one day for Palma.

food lovers

Scooby-Doo was born from the creative imagination of Japanese artist Iwao Takamoto. This seven-year-old Great Dane, brown with black spots, became a major television hit in the United States in 1969. “Scoob” can talk and read, but he only does it for cookies: Scooby Snacks are his main passion. Delightfully funny but cowardly (he is very afraid of monsters and ghosts), Scooby-Doo is devoted to his best friend Shaggy, a fellow coward and food lover.

Gromit, Wallace's loyal friend (characters from the animated series created by Nick Park), is another glutton dog. Gromit happily helps his owner, a frivolous inventor, but spends most of his time dreaming about corn flakes.

How did the name Palma come about?

In some sources you can read that this note indicated the dog’s name - Palma - but Yuri Rost claimed that the animal’s name was not there. The shepherd became Palma thanks to Vnukovo employees, who spent a very long time going through nicknames, trying to find the right name. And the dog began to respond to Palma, although it is possible that in reality she could have been called Alma or some other similar-sounding name. Palma became an all-Union star, but this did not change the fact that the only person she was waiting for was not going to take her. Maybe in his new life there were no conditions for this, or maybe he was afraid that after he revealed his name, the entire Soviet Union would curse him. Be that as it may, it was necessary to arrange the future fate of Palma. Kyiv resident Vera Kotlyarevskaya, the great-great-granddaughter of the Ukrainian poet Ivan Kotlyarevsky, was able to find an approach to the dog. She took a vacation and spent a whole month in Vnukovo next to the dog, earning her trust.

Hero dogs

Balto, the main character of the full-length animated film of the same name, based on real events (directed by Simon Wells, executive produced by Steven Spielberg), is a Siberian husky, a brave sled dog. During the Great Race of Mercy, when the driver had already lost his strength, Balto delivered diphtheria serum to the city of Nome in northern Alaska to save children during the epidemic.

In memory of this event, in honor of all the dogs and the leaders of the Togo and Balto sled teams, who demonstrated extraordinary endurance, devotion and impeccable training, the legendary Iditarod race is held annually - the largest modern sled dog race. It will start in Anchorage and finish in Nome. “Fortitude. Loyalty. Mind" - these words, carved on the Balto monument in Central Park in New York, best characterize him and the other dogs who accomplished this feat.

The owner responded. But he didn't return.

“That’s the whole story about fidelity and love so far,” the reporter wrote at the end of his article. - For now, because maybe this note will be read by a person who once flew away in an IL-18 and probably decided that the one he unfortunately left behind had already forgotten him. Let this person urgently take a vacation, get some money and fly to Moscow. Because they are waiting for him at Vnukovo airport. It’s been almost two years now.” Komsomolskaya Pravda recalls that this publication caused an unprecedented resonance. The editor received bags of letters, in which some expressed outrage at the owner’s behavior, others were ready to help with money so that the dog and its owner could be reunited. There was no end to people wanting to adopt a dog. A real pilgrimage began to Vnukovo, and this increased attention became new stress for the unfortunate shepherd dog. Well, what about the owner? No, he didn’t come to Moscow to get the dog. And, unlike the story of Hachiko, not because he died. Once in Norilsk, Vyacheslav Valentey was given a note. Its author was the dog's owner. He explained that he had to urgently fly out on business, and the dog was not allowed on board because her wounded eye was watering. Then things piled up, he threw himself into work and couldn’t come back for it.
