Blue Puppy: a story about the victory of kindness
The Blue Puppy is a hand-drawn musical fairy tale from Soyuzmulfilm, which appeared on screens back in 1976, and since then has not lost either the relevance of its ideas or its popularity among viewers. The author of the script and lyrics, Yuri Entin, with composer Gennady Gladkov, created several characteristic images that tell the story of a Puppy with whom no one wanted to be friends. The reason for this was the unusual color of the baby’s fur, which became the subject of offensive ridicule. Attitudes towards him will change when the main character, together with the Good Sailor, defeats the treacherous Pirate and the cunning Black Cat.
The main advantage of the cartoon is, of course, the songs. Recognizable by representatives of several generations, for modern young listeners they sound bright and interesting.

Musical themes of the cartoon Blue Puppy
The names of the artists who voiced the main roles are still very well known today: Alisa Freindlikh, Andrei Mironov, Alexander Gradsky, Mikhail Boyarsky. You can listen to songs in good quality on our website using a convenient player.
- Song of the Good Sailor. The melody, as free as the wind itself, the words that touch the soul and the singer’s strong voice - this is the recipe for the popularity of this work.
- Pirate's Song. The evil and vile sea wolf is merciless, but not very smart. This is perfectly illustrated by the clumsy melody and the clumsy, hoarse timbre of the performer.
- Song of the Cat. The main theme of the cunning and the sneaky, its expressive “meowing” intonations are remembered by children of all ages.
- Song of the Sawfish. An amazing example of onomatopoeia in music and text.
- Duet of Cat and Pirate. A masterpiece of the composer’s pen, a combination of two very different themes into a colorful ensemble.
- Song of the Blue Puppy. A touching and naive work that will definitely appeal to impressionable listeners.
- Duet of the Good Sailor and the Blue Puppy. A strong and bright musical theme that convinces everyone: good always wins!
Spend time with your child immersing yourself in the exciting adventures of the heroes of a good fairy tale.
Rescue Pup Team
The life of this friendly team is filled with colorful adventures and emotions. Puppies are always ready to help not only animals, but also technology. Each pet has a name, breed and costume. Particular attention should be paid to the badge hanging on the neck - a symbol of what the dog is responsible for . And also with the help of these icons the puppies communicate with Ryder and with each other. The icon flashes during communication.
The main characters of the animated series are puppies named:
- Racer (Chace);
- Zuma;
- Sky;
- Rocky;
- Sturdy;
- Marshall;
- Everest;
- Tracker.

My four-year-old daughter is ready to watch PAW Patrol all day long. In addition, we buy books, magazines based on this animated series, as well as miniature toys of the characters. The cost of original toys made of high-quality plastic is quite high and depends on the set’s configuration. One figurine of a puppy about 10cm tall costs around 800 Russian rubles. The child knows all the puppies' names by heart, although this was difficult for me. But in order to be on the same page with my daughter, I also had to delve into the essence of the animated series and learn the names of the characters.
The cost of one toy starts from 800 Russian rubles
Naturally, you can find cheaper options, but then the quality of the toy will be poor.

Plot[edit]
A puppy who was mysteriously born blue is rejected by everyone. No one wants to play with him or be friends with him, even gray dogs - everyone shuns the unusual creature. The Black Cat, a trickster and deceiver, plies his trade nearby. Suddenly the island is attacked by an Evil Pirate who loves to do evil things. With the help of the Black Cat, he kidnaps the Blue Puppy.
The Good Sailor is sailing on the sea, he is used to helping others and doing good. The Black Cat managed to do this too: he told the Good Sailor about the kidnapping. The sailor gives chase. The Evil Pirate tries to escape, but he fails. Then he launches a clockwork Sawfish, which saws the mast on the sailor's ship. The ship is sinking, and the Cat jumps over to the Pirate and accuses the Sailor, saying: “he wanted to rob you, take away the loot.” The Pirate launches the Cat into the sea, and it catches the Sailor. Chained, he is captured along with the Blue Puppy.
At this time, the Pirate and the Cat are having fun, singing about their “friendship.” Because of the Cat, the Pirate drinks a lot of wine and falls asleep. The cat, deciding that nothing threatens him anymore, calmly goes to bed.
The puppy steals the Pirate's key to get the Sawfish. He succeeds and frees the Sailor. They tie the Pirate with a chain, but he wakes up. Alarmed and slightly frightened, the Cat jumps into the sea and runs away, and the good Sailor enters into battle with the Pirate. The victorious Sailor and Puppy return to the island as heroes. Now no one is trying to turn away from the Puppy, the hero and winner. But the main thing is that now he has a real friend. It’s not scary to be different if you have friends and those around you respect and love you.
Publications[edit]
Since its creation, the fairy tale has been repeatedly published on children's gramophone records and broadcast on central television channels. After the household video was distributed, it was included in cartoon collections. The soundtrack, which included not only songs from the cartoon, but also prose inserts retelling the plot, was released on a gramophone record and later on a CD. Individual songs are often included in audio collections for children.
In the late 90s, the fairy tale was revived on the theater stage: performances based on it were staged at the St. Petersburg Puppet Theater, at the Moscow Chamber Musical Puppet Theater “On Petrovskie Lines”, and a musical in one of the Krasnoyarsk nightclubs.
Computer games “Blue Puppy's Birthday” (), “Blue Puppy Picture Gallery” (), and toys for children with the name of the fairy tale were released.
Criticism[edit]
Since the beginning of the 90s, Yuri Entin has repeatedly had to comment on the perception of the fairy tale as a kind of hymn to tolerance. After all, by that time the word “gay” had acquired a new meaning and became steadily associated with homosexual orientation. In the original story by the Hungarian Gyula Urban, the Puppy was black, but in the Soviet fairy tale it acquired an “unconventional” color. And although Yuri Entin admits[3] that he could not even think about such an association, many viewers, especially among young audiences, perceive the cartoon exclusively through the prism of homosexuality[4].
History of creation and artistic features[edit]
The drawing method used - colored spots of ink - gives the characters extraordinary plasticity. For example, the cunning Black Cat disappears in front of his interlocutor only to immediately appear behind him. And a too angry Pirate can, puffed up with his anger, easily turn into a thundercloud.
The star cast of actors who voiced the cartoon turns the fairy tale into a vibrant musical. Quotes from the heroes’ songs have found their way into everyday speech: “you have to live skillfully,” “blue, blue, we don’t want to play with you,” “why would we do something bad?”
According to Y. Entin, all the roles in the fairy tale were supposed to be voiced by the famous parodist Viktor Chistyakov, who had a unique gift of onomatopoeia, but in May 1972 Chistyakov crashed in a plane crash near Kharkov. I had to turn to other artists[1].
Starting to work on the film, director Efim Hamburg turned to the famous specialist in stage plastics, professor at the Shchukin School Andrei Droznin for advice on developing the movements of the cartoon characters. As a result, many of the scenes and, in particular, almost the entire dance of the Black Cat, were copied from the movements of Droznin himself, who, thus, became a kind of choreographer of the characters in the film[2].
