Farmina is an Italian manufacturer of cat and dog food, operating since 1965. Initially, the brand was called Russo Feed in honor of the founder Francesco Russo; at that time the company was developing food for large animals. The first dog food production plant was opened in 1999. Today Farmina has many factories in Serbia, Italy and Brazil. It produces several premium medicinal and basic foods for cats and dogs. The main activity remains the production of medical nutrition, which also formed the slogan.
Who produces this food?
The manufacturer of Farmina dog food is the Italian company of the same name, founded back in 1965. It was opened by Francesco Russo, experienced in creating food for farm animals, who previously ran a brand of food for livestock.
It was originally called Russo Feed, but even before the rebranding, the company was an industry leader. The founder thought that his children would continue his business, and the family business would grow into a real worldwide empire for the production of high-quality food for animals. And his dream came true.
The name of the enterprises was changed - in 1999, Francesco's son Antonio founded the first plant with the existing name. The principles of Russo Feed have been preserved: Antonio has repeatedly mentioned in interviews that dogs are full-fledged family members who need high-quality natural food.
Then Russo began collaborating with British specialists in the production of dog food. Thanks to this cooperation, several successful lines emerged, and later a department for the development of new food, Farmina Vet Research. Thanks to his work, the well-known Farmina grain-free dog food was born.

Composition of Farmina N&D food for dogs
Consider the composition of Farmina N&D food using the example of the “Chicken & Pomegranate Mini & Medium Puppy” option. The first two ingredients are chicken (fresh 28%, dehydrated 27%). And although fresh meat after preparing the food significantly decreases in volume (that is, the percentage decreases), taking into account that further in the composition of 27% of “dried” meat there are also “fresh herring” and “dehydrated herring”, we can conclude that the food is based on meat .
This means that your dog’s body will receive healthier animal protein rather than plant protein. The main ingredients also include potatoes, the benefits of which for dogs are much debated.
