Who produces this food?
The manufacturer of Farmina dog food is the Italian company of the same name, founded back in 1965. It was opened by Francesco Russo, experienced in creating food for farm animals, who previously ran a brand of food for livestock.
It was originally called Russo Feed, but even before the rebranding, the company was an industry leader. The founder thought that his children would continue his business, and the family business would grow into a real worldwide empire for the production of high-quality food for animals. And his dream came true.
The name of the enterprises was changed - in 1999, Francesco's son Antonio founded the first plant with the existing name. The principles of Russo Feed have been preserved: Antonio has repeatedly mentioned in interviews that dogs are full-fledged family members who need high-quality natural food.
Then Russo began collaborating with British specialists in the production of dog food. Thanks to this cooperation, several successful lines emerged, and later a department for the development of new food, Farmina Vet Research. Thanks to his work, the well-known Farmina grain-free dog food was born.
Factories are located in Brazil, Serbia and Italy. Products from Serbia are widespread in Russia. Delivery from Eastern Europe makes food profitable for both the buyer and the seller. This concern for customers and animals is demonstrated in Farmina’s slogan: “Happy pet, happy you.”
Food range
The company takes a responsible approach to assortment formation. This is facilitated by Farmina’s constant cooperation with professional veterinarians in Europe and food scientists who develop special diets for pets. Thanks to their efforts, four rich lines appeared.
Natural&Delicious (N&D)
Farmina N&D is considered a holistic class nutrition, which indicates the highest quality among the entire list of possible ones. The Natural&Delicious series includes grain-free dry food, as well as food with a reduced content of grain components, but with vegetables and berries that are healthy for dogs.
The grain-free diet from this series is available in the following flavors:
- chicken feed with pomegranate pulp;
- fish food with orange additives;
- food made from wild boar with the addition of apples or lamb with blueberries.
All these diets are divided into different subtypes depending on the size and age of the animals.
The easiest food to find is for small breed dogs. Foods with a low concentration of plant components available in Russia are chicken food with fresh pomegranate or pumpkin, with orange and cod for adult dogs, as well as blueberry food with lamb. In all of the listed types of dog food, the grain components are spelled and oatmeal.
Farmina's official website, adapted for the Russian buyer, informs that the first line provides the animal with all the necessary microelements and natural vitamins. Attention is focused on the fact that the N&D series of food is as close as possible to the natural diet of representatives of the canine family.
Fun Dog
This line from the Italian monopolist in the production of dog food belongs to the economy class. It is represented by only three subspecies, called Mix, Adult and Energy. Food from this segment is not of premium quality. Therefore, you should not consider it if you really care about your pet’s diet. The obvious advantage of Fun Dog is the price. Despite the brand name, the price is an order of magnitude different from specialized lines.
Vet Life
Vet Life - or Vet Life in Russian style - is a collection of medicinal foods for puppies, adults and elderly dogs. It includes almost two dozen foods intended for dogs with special needs in health and individual development.
Farmina specialists have provided food for animals:
- with growth disorders;
- with inflamed joints and skeletal structure disorders;
- for dogs after injuries and surgery;

Ecopet Natural
Ecopet Natural or Ecopet Natural, as they say among Russian breeders, is a premium diet that offers the consumer about four types of food: for puppies or for adult animals with lamb or fish. Premium food is not considered of sufficient quality for dogs that are sensitive to the components of the composition. But Ecopet does not contain any ingredients that negatively affect the animal. Cibau
The super premium line from Farmin is called Cibau. Its main composition is high-quality natural food for puppies, graded depending on the size of the breed, type of meat, vegetable, fruit and berry additives. There is also food for adult dogs of different breeds, for animals with sensitive digestion or a tendency to allergic reactions or eating disorders. Typically, the line uses lamb or fish, mainly sea fish, as it is less susceptible to parasites.

- Meat or fish occupy more than 26% of the composition. The most commonly used are cod, herring, beef, lamb or mutton, rabbit, and chicken.
- Approximately 25% of the components are dehydrated meat; there is less of it only in the Farmina Struviat or Gastro Intestinal diet. Their combination provides the animal with enough protein. Also, such nutrition is endowed with proteins due to pea fiber, although plant proteins are absorbed a little worse.
- The main sources of lipids in all Farmina foods are animal and fish oils. They not only provide animal organisms with a sufficient amount of energy resources, but also participate in the formation of proper muscles, healthy hair and skin. This is especially true for neutered dogs.
- The main carbohydrates come from vegetables and fruits - the most commonly used are blueberries, quinoa, oranges, grapefruits, pomegranates, potatoes and other farm products common in the regions of production.
Recently, the creators of new lines have been adding starch-rich potatoes instead of allergenic cereals. This improves the quality of the food and makes it suitable for both completely healthy dogs and sick pets. But among doctors there are also critics of this decision. Now we take seven or more kilograms, because the dog loves products with chicken and pumpkin. Sometimes we also buy canned food; they have an impressive shelf life and do not have an unpleasant chemical smell. And my pug likes them too. What else do you need?

I took this food to replace Proplan, I thought it would be better. My dog is a miniature pinscher, 5 years old. The composition of the food is really good. But the smell is terrible and stinks the whole kitchen. From the dog's mouth too. A week later, dandruff started. I thought I ate something on the street or someone gave it from the table, but no, it’s food. Because everything went away immediately after replacing it with another one. The dog also had bad stools, very hard.

Never had any complaints about this food. The picky eater eats well. But in the last pack I purchased, almost all granules contain sharp solid inclusions. Maybe not ground bones, maybe corn, it’s unclear. But this is simply unacceptable. It's a shame, the food was really good.

Dog breeders appreciate the rich composition of Farmina: it includes poultry or animal fillets, rare herbs in the spirit of quinoa and fruits, wild berries and cultivated vegetables. All diets from holistic to premium are low grain, which is why they are considered hypoallergenic or even dietary.
A gradation of food has been developed depending on the composition and age - there is food for adult dogs, for sterilized or old animals, puppies or sick dogs with sensitive digestion, for subspecies of different sizes - for small, medium, large breeds. The feeding chart suggests that any dog will not consume much food. After all, the composition contains the components necessary for a full-fledged existence: meat, purified animal fats, vegetables, fruits and vitamins in their pure form.
Compound
Dry food. In the first and second place in the compositions, sources of animal protein are indicated - fresh and dehydrated meat (lamb, quail, duck, fish, chicken, venison, wild boar), as well as dehydrated whole eggs. Potatoes are used as carbohydrates in grain-free formulas. The low grain line (Ancestral Grain) uses 10% oats and 10% spelled (wheat). Chicken, animal fat and fish fat saturate the pet’s body with fatty acids. Pea fiber, dried apples, pumpkin, carrots and alfalfa are sources of fiber. Inulin and brewer's yeast are used as probiotics. The compositions contain preservatives and antioxidants of natural origin, necessary for life. The feed is balanced with vitamin and mineral supplements.
Wet diets. Contain from 30% to 60% meat components. This includes directly fresh meat (various types depending on taste). Vegetables, vitamins and minerals are also added to the meat ingredients.
