Monge for dogs

The manufacturer classifies the food as premium, but I would not call it such.
At first glance, it is balanced according to BJU, but all nutrients are at the minimum acceptable physiological level. There is very little fat, this directly affects the quality of the coat, it can become dull. Very little fiber. If the dog initially suffers from lazy bowel syndrome or is constipated, then the striated bowel is not stimulated enough and the problem is not solved. Dog owners report frequent manifestations of allergies. This is due to the high content of corn and cereals. The energy value is average, saturation is not the most optimal. Three feedings a day are not enough, the animals beg for food. Food as the basis of a diet can only be used if a vitamin-mineral complex is introduced into the diet and alternated with better ones. A significant plus of the food is a very wide product range, including dry food (about 40 types) and wet food (about 20 types). The doctor prescribed Monge struvine food for our 2-year-old dog because struvite was found in his urine. They came with the fact that the dog was sitting down and whining, constantly licking itself, and was not active. After we started treatment, everything returned to normal. A complex treatment was prescribed with the mandatory Monge diet. Bella ate it with pleasure for 3 months. Then the doctor allowed us to switch to Monge daily food, since the tests came back to normal after 2 changes. Now we are eating Monge for dogs. And she has been eating it with pleasure for 8 months now and the composition pleases her. There were no relapses. We found “our” food.

Monge is my pet's favorite food. After the transfer from Chappie, the dog noticeably became happier and fatter. It can be seen that this food works on a larger area of the taste buds and gives real pleasure to the hairy gourmet. More than anything else, Jack (toy Russell terrier, 6 years old) loves unpacking food, he is intoxicated by the smell of fresh, open food; before opening, the factory product smells concentrated and salty, although after opening, even with the package tightly closed, there is no such thing. The granules are oily, break apart well, I take 2.5 kg packages, so I have to open new packs often. The food always looks perfect, the granules are true to size, without any foreign debris or crumbs. There is not a single broken granule in the whole pack; the presentation is maintained throughout. We don’t change the taste, we always take lamb and sometimes we sin with delicious delicacies from other producers. Monge is an excellent food, with the intoxicating aroma of dog treats.

On Monge Mini, my toy terrier is almost a year old, she feels great, there are no problems with health or digestion, her eyes are not running, her coat is good, there is no heavy shedding, her weight is normal. The granules are medium in size, slightly dry and all in small crumbs. Not all flavors suited the dog. The dog eats lamb with rice with pleasure, but the poultry made him itch. All problems stopped a few days after discontinuation. It’s not entirely clear why they put so much corn in the feed, but I didn’t notice any particular harm from it. In total, the brand produces 4 lines, which differ depending on the size of the dogs, age and in accordance with the special needs of the animals. The food is consumed extremely sparingly; very small portions are needed to ensure complete saturation.

About the manufacturer

Italian farmer Baldasar Monge founded a dog food company in 1963. Until this moment, his family was engaged in the production of high-quality chicken meat, supplying it to the best restaurants in Italy.

The business was profitable, but during the production and cutting of chicken carcasses, a residual product appeared - skin, bones, cartilage, etc. Such raw materials were not suitable for dishes supplied to restaurants. As a result, the farmer decided to found a company for the production of canned animal food, which would use leftover chicken.

The business was based on the concept of the need for proper nutrition for dogs; the product was aimed at those owners who want good health for their pet and choose only natural food.

The company currently produces a wide range of feeds, including dry granules. As before, the family business supplies poultry to restaurants in Italy, but producing food for dogs is now a priority. The company has a research department that develops new types depending on the needs of dogs.

Monge Dog Food Review

Among ready-made foods, only super premium dog food and holistic food can be called good. Italian food Monge is one of the first, which already indicates the presence of real meat in large quantities and a well-balanced composition. But more on this below, and now we note that Monge food has been on our market for several years, but only recently its supplies have become more regular and it has begun to gain popularity.

Other super premium foods:

Composition of Monge dog food

When choosing food for your pet, you should always study the composition of the contenders. To make sure it meets the super premium class, let’s look at the composition of Monge dog food using the Mini Puppy & Junior option as an example. In first place is chicken meat and its content is at least 36%. In low-quality feeds, as a rule, they simply write “chicken” or “poultry” without indicating the percentage. And in this food you can be sure of the presence of real meat, and not strange offal.

Rice is in second place at 27%, and corn is in third place. Although rice and corn (especially corn) are considered cheap food fillers, they are still healthy because they are a source of proteins, vitamins and other nutrients. In addition, rice is a source of carbohydrates, which provides energy. Further in the composition there are many more ingredients, but their part is already insignificant and their purpose is not to satisfy the animal’s hunger, but to supply its body with the necessary useful elements.

Pros and cons of Monge food

Among the advantages of this food:

  • real meat in sufficient quantity;
  • no by-products, artificial flavoring additives;
  • quite rich composition overall;
  • relatively low price (lower than many analogues).

The disadvantages of Monji food include:

  • not available in all pet stores (but not difficult to find on the Internet);
  • it probably contains quite a lot of corn (since the percentage is not stated);

Advantages and disadvantages

prosMinuses
  • protein source - fresh meat;
  • a varied vitamin and mineral complex;
  • only natural preservatives and antioxidants;
  • wide range and affordable price.
  • the use of corn in many products;
  • there is no clarification about the presence of by-products;
  • The store does not always stock the entire line of products; an order is required.

Monge dog food reviews

Review of Monge dog food , writes Svetlana. Previously, I fed my dachshunds Eukanuba, and even before that I tried Royal Canin and Probalance. Only the Eukanubs ate well; I didn’t plan to switch to another food. And here at the exhibition I won a large bag of Monge food as a prize, don’t throw it away, especially considering that its composition is approximately the same as Eukanuba. Both the dog and the girl liked the food and ate it with pleasure. Since then I have been buying them Monge.

Review of Monge dog food, writes Vika from Moscow. Hi all. I have a Yorkshire terrier, he eats very little, but finding food turned out to be problematic - either his eyes were streaming, or problems began with digestion. Only on the fourth attempt was it possible to find a suitable one; it became Monge. The fact that it contains a lot of meat is evidenced not only by the indicated composition, but also by the dark color of the granules. Another important point is the reasonable price, which is very pleasing. If you want to see your dog healthy and active, take Monge!

Why is this food better than others?

The main advantage of Monje over other premium segment products is the presence of dehydrated and fresh meat as a source of protein.

For example: in Proplan (Purina) food, the first ingredient in the composition is chicken (about 21%). However, there is no indication of its origin or processing method.

In addition, we can highlight the complete safety of the food - the manufacturer has completely abandoned the use of synthetic dyes, and only natural antioxidants are used as preservatives; there is no sugar or salt.

For comparison: the Natures Table line of food contains an indication of salt content, the accumulation of which in the body can provoke various diseases of internal organs and joints.

Conclusions about Monge dog food

Considering that there are only positive reviews about Monge dog food (although there are not many of them yet), as well as its good composition, the Give Paw website recommends it as the main food for your pet. High quality and not too expensive - this is about the Italian food Monge. Of course, if possible, it is better to take the best of the best - holistic.

Monge dog food price

  • Dry dog food Monge 1.5 kg - from 780 rub.
  • Dry food Monge for dogs 7.5 kg - from 3370 rubles;

Feeding standards

Typically an adult dog needs food 2-3 times a day. The puppy is fed 4-6 times a day. For puppies, the amount of daily food should be 5-7% of the animal’s weight. For an adult dog - 3.5% of body weight.

It is advisable to remove the bowl between meals to allow the body to calmly digest the food. This process lasts 6-7 hours in an adult dog. If the pet does not eat the entire portion from the bowl, it is necessary to reduce it. Also reduce the portion for dogs that gain excessive weight.

Did you know? In the 70s of the last century, the first dietary food for sick animals appeared, but it was primarily a marketing food: the contents of the packaging, unlike the inscription on it, were no different.

Monge Dog Food Review

Dry dog food Monge (“Monge”, “Monge”, “Mongie”) is produced in Italy by Monge & CSpa. The official website is https://www.monge.it/ (link to the English version), there is information important for consumers (data on compositions, recommended feeding rates, etc.). This food is positioned as super premium, but many options (formulas) do not reach this class in composition.

Monge feed composition

Let's look at the composition of Monge food using the Medium Adult Rich in Chicken option (for dogs of medium breeds, with chicken) as an example. You can see it in the image below (click on it to enlarge for easier reading):

On the left is a photo of the composition from the packaging. On the right is data from the manufacturer’s official website.

The first ingredient, chicken, is a source of protein and contains 30% dehydrated and 10% fresh chicken. Note that in the original it is not indicated that this is meat, but in the translation into Russian the word “meat” appeared from somewhere. Further in composition there are other sources of protein - corn gluten meal, hydrolyzed animal protein, fish (dehydrated salmon).

The sources of carbohydrates are rice and corn, located in second and third place in the composition, respectively. Chicken fat and fish oil are sources of fatty acids. It is specified that chicken fat is preserved with natural antioxidants.

Dry beet pulp is a source of fiber. Brewer's yeast is a source of B vitamins and MOC (prebiotic). Hydrolyzed cartilage is a source of chondroitin sulfate, and hydrolyzed crustaceans are a source of glucosamine. Both of these substances are beneficial for joints.

Methylsulfonylmethane is a dietary supplement intended for the treatment and strengthening of joints and ligaments. KOS, MOS - prebiotics. Yucca Schdigera - helps reduce the smell of excrement. Spirulina is an algae rich in minerals and vitamins.

Monge dog food reviews

Monge dry and wet dog food has been sold on the shelves of Russian pet stores for many years; many have managed to feed it to their pets. Therefore, there are quite a lot of reviews on the Internet; below we have collected some of the newest and most informative ones.

Customer Reviews

My dog is ok with Monge Dog PFB Medium and has been eating it for about a year now. From time to time I change the flavors (lamb, salmon, chicken) so as not to get bored. Before that I tried several other brands, all of them quickly became boring, some caused diarrhea. That's why I don't try new ones, Monge fits perfectly.

I think that the food will last because: the dog is active, the coat does not fade or fall out, the appetite is good, the output is stable and normally formed. The main component of the composition is chicken/lamb/salmon meat, the protein level is suitable for a dog living in the house. There is also a component that is undesirable for a good food - corn gluten, but overall the composition is good.

My dog needs a large bag weighing 15 kg for 1.5-2 months. The price of such a bag is 3000 rubles. The packaging lists the composition and vitamin content, and the table shows feeding rates. Bottom line: the food is quite good, the dog is healthy, it suits me and I recommend it to others.

Hello. We bought Monge Mini Adult Salmone dry food for our pet (with salmon for small breed dogs). For a package of 800 g we paid 550 rubles, a little expensive, but a small dog doesn’t eat much, so the price is reasonable.

As for the food itself: it smells like other dog food, the granules are small, the composition seems very good. The dog liked it, eats with pleasure, we have no allergies, and everything is fine with the stool. Overall I'm satisfied, we'll buy more.

By the way, I noticed such a strange thing that on the side of the package where the Russian translation is written “for adult dogs of all breeds,” although on the front it says “Mini.” Probably an error in translation.

Good afternoon. In February it will be half a year since the entire nursery switched to drying Monge, all adults eat hypoallergenic Dog PFB Specialty 24/12 with salmon and tuna. I am completely satisfied with the food, all the dogs eat it well and look great. We are expecting puppies, we will try the puppy one soon, I hope everything will be great too!

Reviews from veterinarians

Julia K.

I often recommend the Monge line when owners contact me if, for some unknown reason, their pet refuses other ready-made formulations. Most often, this type is to our taste, and then we choose a constant diet, mixing wet and dry options.

Elena V.

I really like the treatment line from this manufacturer. Most often I use the Hepatic, Dermatosis, Diabetic, Cardiac series. For liver diseases, canned food and dried hepatitis are very helpful. But the dermatosis series is just a lifesaver. In my practice, this food is of the highest quality and suitable for many animals, taking into account the affordable price.

Owner reviews

Elena S.

We have two Yorkies, they really love Pouchies with different flavors from Monge. The only negative is that you have to purchase a sufficiently large amount of food at once, since they are quickly sold out in stores and sometimes you have to wait for delivery.

Ivan Z.

Our Spitz has liver pathology, we tried several types of food. We tried natural food - it didn’t work. Through experience, in consultation with a doctor, we came to the use of medicinal food Monge. This is the only type that the dog eats with pleasure and does not get fat from it. At the same time, the food has a medicinal effect, which is very pleasing. The cost is low, and it is increasingly appearing in stores in an almost complete assortment. But it’s the medicinal ones that you have to look for.

Advantages and disadvantages

Farmina is a company that takes care of its furry pets, and therefore prepares balanced meals. The food contains a high percentage of protein. In addition, there are many different types that will definitely suit the taste of any dog, because the food does not contain any dyes or other harmful additives.

The company undoubtedly has many advantages, but it cannot ignore its shortcomings. It is true that the company covers a huge territory in the consumer market, producing food of various types and qualities, from economy class to super premium. But this is the drawback.

You might think that the main thing for the company is demand, and not the health of the pet, because economy-class food contains low-quality products and by-products. Flavor enhancers and dyes are also often used. These substances, as we know, can cause severe allergies in a pet, as well as lead to stomach problems and various health complications.

Veterinarians do not recommend feeding your pet food of this quality, because it will not end well. You can afford this only if necessary and do not delay it, otherwise problems cannot be avoided.
