Indications for use

Catozal has a wide range of uses in veterinary medicine. It is used as a stimulant and tonic for metabolic disorders and diseases of various etiologies. So, drugs are prescribed:

  • to speed up recovery for any pathologies;
  • for metabolic disorders;
  • for anemia of any origin, in particular with a lack of magnesium and calcium;
  • to improve the fertility of females and males;
  • during pregnancy and the postpartum period for the prevention and treatment of complications, as well as to speed up recovery;
  • to stimulate the growth of young animals, especially weak, premature and low-weight ones;

  • to improve liver function;

Catosal accelerates the recovery and recovery of the animal, increases its resistance to diseases, and reduces the risk of relapses. But it is not an independent drug for treatment: it is used only as part of complex therapy.

If it gets bad

Catozal has virtually no side effects or contraindications for use. Still, problems can arise. This may be due to the use of too much medicine and the need to reduce the dosage. Sometimes a pet develops a personal intolerance to any component of the drug.

Allergy to Catozal is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • lethargy and malaise;
  • elevated temperature;
  • drowsiness;
  • unpleasant odor from the mouth;
  • diarrhea or vomiting;
  • spasms of facial muscles or limbs;
  • dyspnea;
  • poor coat condition;
  • discharge from the ears;
  • fainting.

When there are obvious allergy symptoms, you can use any antihistamine with plenty of water.

How it works

Taking it has a positive effect on all organs and systems of the body. It normalizes metabolic and regenerative processes, stimulates the growth of dogs, and increases resistance to adverse external factors.

The complex effect of the drug is due to its constituent components.

Butaphosphan is a unique substance discovered by Bayer specialists. The component is now used by other pharmaceutical companies: no equally effective and safe analogues have been found. The product is an organic phosphorus compound, which, unlike inorganic ones, does not accumulate in the body and does not lead to serious side effects.

The effect of butaphosphamide on the animal body is difficult to overestimate. He:

  • stimulates energy metabolism by improving the utilization of glucose in the blood;
  • accelerates metabolic processes;
  • improves liver function;
  • increases the body's resistance;
  • stimulates smooth muscles;
  • restores the heart muscle;
  • normalizes cortisol levels in the blood;
  • stimulates bone tissue production;
  • accelerates the growth, development and recovery of pets by stimulating protein synthesis.

Cyanocobalamin, also known as vitamin B12, has the following beneficial effects:

  • stimulates hematopoietic processes;
  • promotes the production of creatine;
  • participates in the metabolism of carboxylic acids and fat;
  • improves food digestibility;
  • promotes methionine synthesis;
  • normalizes the state of the nervous system.

How not to buy a fake

As already quite popular. The advantage of this is that even a veterinary pharmacy in a small regional center can offer to purchase it. The disadvantages of such popularity are also obvious - a large number of fakes, which (if you're lucky) will not have the desired therapeutic effect. And in the worst case scenario, they can cause serious harm to the health of the animal.

How to distinguish an original product from a counterfeit, here are the basic principles:

  1. Buy veterinary products only from serious companies that have been operating for a long time and have a good reputation.
  2. Be sure to check that the seller has a quality certificate and other documentation for the product.
  3. It is contraindicated to buy veterinary drugs in pet supply stores. Since either they do not have a license to trade in medicines, or this is not their main product, but a related product (accordingly, it may be of low quality).
  4. Pay attention to the equipment and storage conditions of the products.
  5. If the bottle is not placed in a cardboard box, this may be one of the signs of counterfeit.
  6. Poor quality (fuzzy or blurry numbers) of the date stamp and expiration dates also indicate that the product is questionable. All large companies (like Bayer) use the hot stamping method, which eliminates poor quality (thick, smudged or unclear numbers and letters).
  7. On the bottom of the bottle, the original contains numbers separated by a horizontal line; a fake may have different options.
  8. The top of the real bottle has a more rounded shape, while the fake bottle has a more conical shape.
  9. The original solution has a rich color, while the fake solution is pale pink.
  10. Pay special attention to the first four and 6th points, since scammers can also fake the remaining points.

Instructions for use and dosage

Catosal is used for injection: subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous. The minimum dosage for dogs is 0.5 ml, the maximum is 5 ml. On average, pets are administered 1-3 ml per 10 kg of weight.

The standard dosage regimen is two doses, with a break of a week. However, there are modifications to the technique:

  1. One or two injections with an interval of 2-7 days. This regimen is used during stress and increased workload, before exhibitions and competitions, loss of appetite, after operations and to stimulate fertility.
  2. 5-10-fold course with a break between each injection of 1-3 days. Used to improve metabolic processes, the condition of the skin and coat, correct psychological problems, and in the treatment of exacerbations of chronic pathologies.
  3. Daily intake. Indicated for severe dog conditions: infections, serious pathologies, severe metabolic disorders.

The indicated regimens and dosages are approximate. The exact course of treatment is selected by the veterinarian for each dog, based on the severity of the disease, the animal’s condition, weight and body characteristics.

For puppies

The use of this drug is allowed for puppies from three months of age. Prescribed for German and Belgian Shepherd pups. These breeds have problems with the formation of ear cartilage. Also prescribed in cases of:

  1. Normalization of potassium-phosphorus balance.
  2. Maintaining the body during a period of active growth.
  3. Changing teeth.
  4. Difficult birth for mom.
  5. Puppy inactivity.
  6. Malnutrition.
  7. Weak physical development.
  8. Various pathological abnormalities of the baby.
  9. Excessive thinness of the baby.

A 0.1 ml injection is administered subcutaneously once a day. Course 5-7 days. You can also dilute the medicine in water and feed the animal for a week. For infectious or bacterial diseases, the drug is administered intramuscularly 0.3-5 ml twice a day until complete recovery.

Important! The danger of using the medicine for puppies is that it can cause allergy attacks much more often than in adults. In this case, it is urgent to give a quarter of the antihistamine. Then immediately contact a specialist.

Signs of drug intolerance in a child:

  • suffocation;
  • convulsions;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • diarrhea;
  • fainting;
  • swelling of the larynx;
  • complete loss of strength;
  • temperature increase;
  • foaming from the mouth.

Metabolic disorders in animals can be caused by a lack of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in the body. Catozal for dogs does not contain them, but stimulates metabolic processes, activates the gastrointestinal tract, improves liver function and accelerates metabolism. Thanks to its complex effect on the body, the drug restores the metabolism of nutrients and other useful elements.

Owner reviews

Valentin: “My St. Bernard always gets eczema, usually in the fall and spring. Therefore, for several years now I have been conducting a ten-day course during these seasons. Works great, no side effects. I advise all dog lovers to keep this drug in their first aid kit and use it for prevention.”

Victoria: “I met Katozal 5 years ago, when my dog had postpartum titania. Injected in combination with calcium gluconate. The dog recovered rapidly. Since then I have kept the medicine on hand: I give it for poisoning or indigestion. This is a universal drug, I recommend it to everyone.”

Nata: “I want to share my sad experience and warn others. We were carrying puppies for docking and the vet noticed that one male was developmentally delayed. I recommended that the entire litter be injected with Catozal for a week. After the first injection, half an hour later, I went to see the little ones with my mother and was stunned: the children were lying in rags, convulsively stretching their paws in pain, their tongues were hanging out and not even squeaking. In horror, I called the doctor, who was also shocked. He said it was a rare case of allergies. I immediately gave everyone Gluconate and Diphenhydramine, the symptoms disappeared, the babies began to move, but cried a lot. During the night, 2 babies died: those who were stronger and healthier survived. But for a long time they complained about their tummies.”

Storage conditions

Like all medications, Catozal loses its properties if storage conditions are not met. The drug is packaged in cardboard boxes that protect the liquid from direct sunlight. It is better to store the bottle in the box during and during use.

Despite the rubber stopper and glass packaging, Katozal must be stored under the following conditions:

  • Temperature range – from 5 to 25 degrees. After freezing or overheating of the drug, sediment appears in it.
  • Humidity – up to 60%.

Important! If there is sediment in Catosal or the liquid looks cloudy, the drug is strictly not recommended to be used!

Catozal should not be stored in places accessible to children, along with food or feed. The package with the drug should be stored only closed, in a dark, dry place. In this case, the shelf life is 5 years from the date of production.

After opening, the drug is used until a sediment forms or the liquid becomes discolored. After the expiration date, the drug cannot be used! Remains of the drug are disposed of in accordance with the procedure established by law.

Answers to frequently asked questions

Is it possible to take Catozal instead of injections? And what dose should I give in this case?

You can use drugs in this way, there will be no harm. But the effect will decrease. The dosage remains standard.

Do I need to change the dosage and course of administration for older dogs?

No, they stick to standard schemes.

Is it allowed to give medicine for inoperable tumors?

Tumors, malignant and benign, also feed on amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Consumption of Catozal can provoke their growth. Therefore, only the doctor determines the need for use: but most veterinarians consider the use of the medication in such cases undesirable.

Exceptions and features for breeds

An exception to the use of this product may be the dog’s personal intolerance. In case of an overdose of the medicine, allergic reactions may also occur. If this happens, you must immediately stop taking Catozal, give the dog an anti-allergenic drug and go to a veterinary hospital.

You should not use the medicine on overly sensitive dog breeds:

  • toy terriers;
  • poodles;
  • collie;
  • Sheltie (Shetlen Sheepdog);
  • Chihuahua and many others.
