Dog food GO!: analysis of ingredients, reviews from owners and veterinary specialists

GO brand food! for cats, of course, have a special style. A large title that can be translated as “Come on!” or “Go!”, bright colors on the packaging combined with contrasting black and white photos - all this attracts attention to the product on the shelf. We were interested in reviewing the “Fit+Free” line of food for adult cats, with chicken, turkey and duck.

The list of ingredients in the GO! almost 70 components. The composition is so large, also because all the vitamin and mineral supplements are listed in detail. But they are not what interests us in the first place, but the characteristics of the basis of this food.

About the manufacturer

Poop GO! appeared on the dog food market relatively recently. PETCUREAN Pet Nutrition Corporation (Canada) began its activities in 1999, organizing a small production of dry granulated food. A feature of the manufacturer from the very beginning of its activity was the use of only fresh meat and other agricultural products.

The manufacturer states that in the production of feed, only fresh, carefully selected vegetables and fruits, meat and eggs are used, which have not been further processed.

The corporation is actively involved in environmental protection: it supports local manufacturers to reduce the cost of transporting raw materials and minimize emissions, converts its fleet to hybrid engines, and uses bags made from starch that can naturally decompose for packaging.

Feed composition

For example, let's take dry food for dogs with sensitive digestion (with duck).

Compound:

  • protein - duck meat flour. The ingredient is located in the first place of the composition, a similar one is at 4 - its name can be translated as “duck without bones”). The recipe no longer contains protein-rich ingredients. Therefore, the declared 22% are of animal origin. Please note that food GO! meets AAFCO guidelines requiring food to contain only meat and a small portion of skin and bones;
  • carbohydrates - oats, potatoes, rice;
  • fats - rapeseed oil. The ingredient is not the healthiest, the manufacturer of dry dog food Gou points out - preservation occurs with the help of natural preservatives;
  • fiber - apples, quinoa, flax seeds;
  • prebiotic of plant origin - chicory;
  • antioxidant - dried rosemary;
  • a complex of minerals, vitamins and substances useful for digestion, including iodine - dried seaweed;
  • spices - salt represented by the name of chemical formulas.

Despite all the richness and naturalness of the composition of Gou dog food, some components raise doubts about the advisability of use.

Advantages and disadvantages

The food produced has mostly positive reviews among veterinarians and dog owners. A negative reaction on the part of pets is most often caused by individual intolerance to components, which can be diagnosed using tests.

Advantages of Go food:

  • corresponds to the “holistic” class;
  • the product is made based on meat, vegetables and fruits;
  • it does not contain skin, cartilage, bones, or internal organs;
  • meat ingredients do not contain hormonal additives;
  • formula without dyes, artificial flavors and flavor enhancers;
  • food is enriched with prebiotics, antioxidants, fatty acids;
  • Contains no GMO products, corn, soy, or wheat.

Flaws:

  • high price;
  • Possible gastrointestinal disorder in the dog.

Poop Go! NATURAL Holistic was developed by veterinarians. Their composition is balanced – the amount of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and microelements is sufficient to maintain the healthy functioning of the dog’s body.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of Gou dog food include:

  • protein is represented by dehydrated meat, with minimal use of koi and bones - poultry, fish, lamb, beef (depending on the recipe);
  • a variety of vitamin components;
  • Preservatives and antioxidants only of natural origin are used;
  • a wide range of Go's food, including grain-free diets and canned food;
  • does not contain GMOs, dyes, hormones and by-products;
  • The entire line can be easily found on the shelves of pet stores.

The disadvantages of GO! let's include:

  • high cost (compared to similar dry food);
  • instead of a source of animal fat (fish, poultry), vegetable oils (rapeseed, coconut, etc.) are used.

Manufacturer

Brand Go! created by the Canadian company Petcurean, which has been producing animal food since 1999. The main concept of the producers is the use of natural ingredients grown on local farms. The company pays most attention to product safety and quality. Petcurean regularly undergoes accreditations that evaluate the compliance of raw materials with standards.

Ask a Question

Go dog food is based on products that have not been subjected to chemical processing. During the production process, the ingredients are steamed at low temperatures. This method allows you to preserve maximum nutritional properties.

The company's rule is not to skimp on products and production technology. At each stage, raw materials are tested for compliance with standards. In order to detect the presence of toxins, an infrared radiation apparatus is used. This explains the high price of the product.

Why Go's dry food is better than others

Because Go's dog food belongs to the super premium holistic class. We will compare with analogues.

Acana

Both types of feed have a natural composition; manufacturers avoid using meat production waste as a source of protein. Gou food has a more varied composition of mineral and vitamin supplements, which sometimes reaches up to 50 points.

Akana often contains dry yeast, which is a source of vitamin B, but often causes allergies.

Grandorf

The Grandorf brand food formula contains about 28% protein, while Gou offers more than 30%. The carbohydrate composition of Gou food is almost always represented by a set of several ingredients; in Grandorf, it is usually a monocomposition. Minerals and vitamins have a poor composition, including brewer's yeast.

Pronature Holistic

Pronature uses corn gluten and flour as a protein source, both allergenic ingredients. You won’t find such ingredients in any of Go’s food recipes. The carbohydrate composition also suffers from the presence of allergenic products: wheat, corn, brewer's rice. Go's food does not contain dyes or hormones; this dry dog food contains salt and yeast.

Go cat food reviews

There are many pages on pet owner forums discussing Go Natural Holistic food from a Canadian manufacturer. Below we have collected several reviews from those who fed/are feeding their cat with this food.

Reviews from veterinarians

There are many reviews online about Go dry food from cat owners. Unfortunately, there were no reviews from veterinarians, there is only one short comment. It says that the composition is good, but there is no personal experience in using Go food.

Customer Reviews

Olesya writes:

We buy Go Natural Sensitivity + Shine food with salmon and trout, the cat is old and has sensitive digestion. In addition, at the shelter she did not eat well, she was very thin and emaciated, so they chose food with a good composition so that the cat would gain weight. The cost of a bag weighing 3.63 kg is about 3,000 rubles, but considering the composition (fish fillet, many vitamins, all natural, no grain), the price is justified.

The smell of the food is very strong, but I am sensitive to such smells, my mother says it smells acceptable. The granules are small, designed for kittens and adult cats of small breeds. Like all foods, the packaging contains dosage information for cats of different weights.

The cat eats this food deliciously, and in just a month she has gained 2 kilograms of missing weight. She began to look much better; before it was impossible to look at her without pity. I think Go food is good, the only downside is the price, which will hit your wallet if you have more than one cat.

Zina writes:

There are two tails in our house, a dog and a cat. We selected cat food and tried Pronature holistic, Go Natural and Grandorf. We settled on the latter, but today we’ll talk about the results from Go Natural. After Pronature, it turned out that there was a negative reaction to chicken, and Go with duck, that’s why they chose it.

The granules are small and light. According to feeding standards, our cat needed 36 grams per day, but we had to give more, otherwise she would wake up early in the morning to be fed. The stool became lighter, apparently due to lighter granules, became softer and had a more unpleasant odor. Within a week the small pack sold out and we switched to Grandorf with rabbit.

Why the smell of the stool became stronger, and the feeding standards were not enough is not clear. Maybe at first glance the good composition is not so good, after all, the percentage of meat in it is not indicated. Could chicken fat and powdered eggs also come from chicken eggs? In general, this food is not suitable for cats that are not friends with chicken.

Vika writes:

My cat now eats Gou dry food with duck; before that he ate Nau from the same company. First of all, I note that it is cheaper to feed expensive, high-quality food than low-quality, inexpensive food. With a weight of 4 kg, less than a thousand rubles per month are spent on a cat; a 3.6 kg bag is enough for 4 months. This takes into account if you also buy canned food and treats.

Go's food has darker granules than Nau's and has a meatier smell. The cat eats it very well. I also tried giving it to barn cats, they eat even better) The cat always has free access to water and drinks it after every feeding. The coat is in good condition, activity is normal, sometimes he runs here and there, and sometimes he lies on the sofa for half a day. In general, I am satisfied with everything, I recommend Go food.

Go's food line

GO! presents three completely unique formulations that take care of the health of dogs. This is not surprising, because initially the diets were produced for dogs with digestive problems. This means that the entire line is hypoallergenic and medicinal.

The line includes:

  • grain-free diets enriched with proteins (FIT + FREE);
  • whole grain feed (DAILY DEFENCE);
  • for sensitive digestion (SENSITIVITY + SHINE).

Food GO! grain-free (for dogs of any age and breed, 4 types of meat)

A universal diet that is suitable for dogs of any age, activity and breed. The first holistic food with a balanced composition of proteins and fats. The proportion of proteins in Go Natural food is 35%. Contains three types of poultry: chicken, turkey and duck. Added salmon and boneless trout. Contains no meat raised with hormones. On the packaging, the manufacturer has provided dosage for feeding dogs depending on weight and activity.

Food GO! for puppies and adult dogs with sensitive digestion (with venison)

Grain-free food has a monoprotein composition: deer meat (fresh and dehydrated). To make the food hypoallergenic, the manufacturer limited additional substances. Contains pre- and probiotics, natural antioxidants, Omega-3 and Omega-6 acids. Does not contain gluten, chicken, by-products, soy, growth hormones, wheat or other substances that can cause digestive upset.

GO! for puppies and adult dogs (with lamb)

A unique formula has been developed for a whole grain diet - “All stages of life”. Its use is possible at any age for dogs with food allergies. The protein component is 25%, represented by lamb meat (fresh and dehydrated). Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and have a positive effect on your dog's immunity. The manufacturer guarantees the absence of GMO products, by-products, and other allergic components in the dog food recipe.

Note that wet diets copy the division of dry ones, dividing into three groups.

Useful and unwanted additives

As an analysis of the composition of GO! Fit + Free Chicken, Turkey, Duck, formulas include prebiotics and probiotics. In the Russian description, the Aspergillus fungal additive is named in one word, while in English it is detailed that these are dried fermentation products of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus oryzae (“dried Aspergillus niger fermentation product, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation product”).

The presence of phosphoric acid in the artificial preservative is not in favor of the Go diet. This additive is not prohibited and is used in human foods, but it is still difficult to welcome here. There are other feed preservation systems using natural preservatives, so the addition of synthetic substances could be avoided.

Reviews from veterinarians

Veterinarians advise feeding your pets diets of at least premium class. The good composition of Go's dog food allows it to be offered to patients. There were not many reviews from veterinary specialists on the network.

Igor N. (veterinarian) If a tailed patient has even minor digestive problems, I suggest the owner immediately switch him to holistic food. Among others, I propose to consider Gou’s diets. In my practice, I have not encountered a negative reaction to the use, but many owners refuse Go because of the high cost.

Reviews

Marina, Orel: “Our St. Bernard has chronic colitis, we don’t skimp on food. We studied publications and reviews on the veterinarians’ forum and gave preference to Go food. There are no complaints - now the dog rarely has seizures, the discomfort after meals has gone away.”

Victoria, Moscow: “Whenever possible, I buy everything eco-friendly: cosmetics, household products, food. I also choose natural dog food. What attracted me to Go was its organic composition and the availability of various quality certificates. The absence of chemicals did not affect the taste characteristics - our dog eats these products with pleasure.”

Dina, Krasnodar: “As a veterinarian, I advise owners and breeders to purchase only high-quality food. Often, kidney stones, stomach and intestinal problems are caused by consuming cheap products. About the Go brand! I’ve only heard good things – nursery owners I know only buy it.”

Go dog food is distinguished by the quality of its raw materials - natural meat, fruits, vegetables and oils retain maximum nutritional properties. The high cost of the products is justified, since this food for dogs consists of healthy organic ingredients.

Owner reviews

Irina K. I am the owner of two Labradors of different ages. When the first one was 4 years old, they kept a foster puppy. I thought for a long time about what food to choose for my baby. In the breeder's family, he ate dry food, which is difficult to buy in my city; the breeder ordered large quantities directly from the factory. I checked with the veterinarian and offered a choice. The older dog was on grain-free Gou, and was surprised to learn that it would also suit the baby. I read about it on the packaging, but thought it was a marketing ploy. We didn’t have to rack our brains, we just started buying more regular food. I generally buy any bag that is available in the store. All are suitable without causing diarrhea or scabies.

Evgeniy S. This winter we adopted a dog from the street and simply regretted it. In the group photos, he looked very pitiful - demodicosis, practically no hair, emaciated. We have a dachshund in our house. My head was spinning: how to treat, what to feed. We have a trusted veterinarian, and we selected the food gradually, one small bag at a time. We settled on GO! for sensitive digestion. The dachshund eats natural food and has refused any dry food since childhood. Now in the hunt it may crunch. We decided that if she showed interest, we would transfer her too.

Briefly about the main thing

  1. Dry and wet diets GO! for dogs - balanced holistic food from Canada.
  2. The food recipe contains only natural ingredients.
  3. The meat is fresh or dehydrated, with minimal skin and bone content.
  4. There are no GMOs, grown with the help of hormones, or by-products.
  5. Originally produced specifically for dogs with sensitive digestion and a tendency to allergies.
  6. The recipe contains a rich mineral and vitamin supplement.
  7. A wide range of products is always available in pet stores.
  8. The cost of Gou is slightly higher than products of a similar class.

In general, Gou’s diet justifies the manufacturer’s classification as holistic. Individual intolerance is possible, but in most cases, dogs happily eat this brand of dry food, feeling great and remaining active.

Go Cat Food Review!

Dry and wet cat food Go!
(“Go”) are manufactured in Canada by Petcurean Pet Nutrition. The official website is where you can find information about ingredients, feeding rates, etc. (in English). Go food is holistic. The Go brand also produces dog food. Petcurean Pet Nutrition also produces Now Fresh, Summit, and Gather dog and cat food.

Go food composition

Let's study the composition of Go cat food using the example of the “SENSITIVITY + SHINE, Duck Recipe for Cats” option (with duck, for kittens and cats). You can see it in the image below (click on it to enlarge for easier reading):

Above is a photo of the composition from the packaging (original on the left, Russian translation on the right). Below is a screenshot from the official website.

The first ingredients are meat, but the translation into Russian is not correct. De-boned duck is boneless duck, not fresh duck fillet (although the concept is the same). Duck meal is duck meal, not “dehydrated duck meat” (the meal may include some skin, tendons and bones instead of just meat, if the meal is made from mechanically separated meat). But that's not scary either. These two ingredients, along with whole dried eggs, are a source of animal protein.

It is interesting that the information on the packaging and on the website slightly differ in the indicators of some substances (protein, Omega acids, etc.). Probably because in the first case the minimum and minimum values are indicated (there are min and max in parentheses), while in the second they are exact.

From fourth to eighth place are the sources of carbohydrates - peas, pea flour, tapioca, lentils and chickpeas (checkpeas in the original). Although chickpeas and lentils also contain a lot (about 20% and 10%, respectively, of the total ingredient volume) of vegetable protein.

Chicken fat is a source of saturated fatty acids. The original description of the composition clarifies that it is preserved with tocopherols (natural preservatives, a source of vitamin E). Also at the very end there is another preservative (also natural) - dried rosemary.

We also need about, which is not specified. The remaining ingredients are various additives designed to enrich the food with certain beneficial substances.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the advantages of Gou food:

  • meat ingredients are the source of protein;
  • grain-free composition (no wheat, corn or other grains);
  • natural preservatives and flavors;
  • high content of vitamins, minerals and other beneficial substances;
  • Widely distributed and available in most pet stores.

Among the disadvantages:

  • the percentage of main ingredients is not indicated;
  • high price (comparable to analogues).
