Exekan - a unique allergy drug for dogs

Skin diseases in dogs are not as harmless as they seem at first glance. Due to constant itching, the pet cannot sleep, loses appetite, does not play, and becomes lethargic. In addition, bleeding scratches often become infected. But there is a way to improve the animal’s condition in a matter of days - Execan sugar cubes.

In this review I will look at what Exekan does, how to use it, whether it is dangerous, and whether there are safer analogues. At the end of the article you will find answers to your questions and my recommendations for using the drug.

Exekan instructions for use

The form of release of the drug resembles a cube of refined sugar. The sugar preparation dissolves easily in water, which makes its administration very simple. Some pets mistake it for a treat and take it from the owner's hands. Others may dissolve the medicine in a small amount of liquid. You can also add the drug to your pet's drinking water or food.

Executioner's instructions for dogs

The dosage is calculated according to the weight of the animal:

  • Large breed puppies after 8 months and small breed dogs whose weight does not exceed 5 kilograms are recommended to be given half a cube per day.
  • For dogs up to 15 kilograms, 1 cube per day is recommended.
  • Dogs weighing up to 30 kilograms receive 1.5 cubes per day.
  • For dogs weighing over 30 kilograms, a daily dose of 2 cubes is recommended.

If you follow the instructions and observe the dosage, you can eliminate the primary allergy symptoms within a week. The doctor may extend treatment for eight days, if the disease is more severe, but reduce the dosage by half.

Executioner's instructions for cats

The method of administration for cats is not much different from the method of giving medicine to dogs. The drug is fed to animals by hand or added to drink or food. The dosage is also calculated depending on the weight of the animal and during the first four days, with a cat weighing from 1 to 5 kg, half a cube is prescribed. You can extend treatment up to eight days with the same dosage. For large cats, you can calculate the dosage yourself or contact a specialist for examination.

For what diseases is Exekan taken?

Typically, a veterinarian will prescribe this drug if the animal exhibits signs of:

  • Dermatitis.
  • Eczema.
  • Arthritis.
  • Liver diseases.
  • Intoxication of a chronic nature.
  • If the metabolism or functioning of the digestive system is disrupted.

Composition of the drug and principle of its action

The drug contains the following active substances:

  • Dexamethasone. This drug is able to block the development of inflammatory reactions in the body and reduce allergic manifestations. Thanks to this component, the drug relieves swelling, redness, itching and irritation from the skin.
  • Methionine. It is an amino acid that the animal's body cannot produce. This substance has a positive effect on liver function during treatment.
  • Nicotinamide. In another way, this substance is called vitamin RR. Nicotinamide enhances the effect of dexamethasone in the composition of the drug. It also has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Pyridoxine. It is a type of vitamin B6 and restores the barrier function of the epidermis.

Side effects of Execan

One of the side effects of using the medicine may be vomiting. With long-term treatment of the drug, the following may occur:

  • Chronic feeling of fatigue.
  • Decreased appetite or complete refusal of food.
  • Urge to vomit.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Disturbances in the urinary system.
  • Immune suppression.
  • Hyperglycemia.
  • Apathy.
  • Feeling of constant thirst.

Due to intolerance to the components of the drug or from an overdose, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea may occur simultaneously. Your pet may mistake the medicine for a treat and eat more than it should. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to store medications out of the reach of animals and children. In case of poisoning, you should immediately take your pet to a veterinary clinic to avoid dire consequences.

Who should not give Exekan?

Many pet owners use the drug on the advice of friends or after reading information about it themselves. But you should know that, like any other medicinal substance, this drug has its contraindications.

The drug should not be given to animals:

  • During pregnancy and lactation.
  • In case of oversaturation of the animal’s body with vitamin B6.
  • For diseases of fungal, viral, bacterial skin lesions.
  • Suffering from diabetes.
  • With heart disease.
  • With osteoporosis.

It is better to consult a specialist before using the medicine.
Improper use of the drug can lead to the appearance of ulcers on the gastric mucosa, hypoglycemia and edema. An increased dosage of the drug can be used only with the permission of the treating veterinarian. If you miss the medicine once, you should not give a double dose the next time you take it. 14 days after starting treatment, if there are no visible improvements, you should contact a specialist to prescribe another drug. Long-term and improper therapy can lead to changes in hormonal and metabolic levels.

Analogues and prices

Exekan has no complete analogues, since it contains not just dexamethasone, but a whole complex of medicinal components. If necessary (hypersensitivity), the veterinarian can replace the medicine with other anti-allergy drugs. The most popular of them:

  • Suprastin;
  • Zyrtec;
  • Syntomycin ointment;
  • Levomekol.

The cost of the medicine in veterinary pharmacies may vary depending on the region and ranges from 950-1100 rubles per package (16 cubes).

Instructions for use

The medication is given during feeding in several ways:

  1. Mixed with a small amount of food, for example, hidden in meat or minced meat.
  2. If the pet protests taking the medicine, the tablets should be crushed and mixed with food.
  3. Force crushed pills into your mouth, diluting them in a small amount of boiled but cold water, or simply place them on the root of your tongue.

Do not use the medicine together with drugs that contain piperazine. It is not recommended to use other antiparasitic agents when using an anthelmintic, as toxicity may increase to a dangerous level.

No preliminary fasting diet, taking laxatives or other preparatory actions are required. The dosage is calculated based on the weight of the animal.

Endogard 2.5

If the animal weighs less than 2.5 kg, 0.5 tablets of this concentration will be required. For pets weighing from 2.5 to 5 kg, 1 tablet should be given once. If the weight is more than 5 kg, 2 tablets are needed.

Endoguard 10

The following scheme can correctly calculate the dose of medication for a pet:

  • weight 5 kg – 0.5 pcs.;
  • weight 10 kg – 1 piece;
  • weight 15 kg – 1.5 pcs.;
  • weight 20 kg – 2 pcs.

Each tablet is easily divided into even parts, which makes it easy to measure the required amount of the drug and avoid overdose.

Endoguard 30

The instructions for use indicate that Endogard 30 is used for dogs weighing more than 15 kg. For pets with this weight, only half a tablet will be needed. For animals weighing 30 kg, one whole tablet is needed. If your pet weighs about 45 kg, you need to take 1.5 pills, and large dogs (60 kg or more) should be given 2 pieces at a time.

Duration of treatment

To get rid of worms, the drug is taken once, and when treating giardiasis, it is taken once a day for three days.

To prevent helminth infection, use it once every 3 months. To prevent dirofilariasis, the medicine is given a month and a half before the start of insect activity, and then monthly throughout the season.

Answers to frequently asked questions

Can Execan be given to pregnant and lactating dogs?

No, taking drugs by puppy dogs is strictly prohibited. This is a hormonal drug: it will negatively affect the condition of the dog, fetuses and born puppies.

How quickly does the medicine take effect?

Acute symptoms disappear within a couple of hours after administering the medication. Usually the itching completely disappears after the second dose. But it is impossible to cancel the drug before the end of the course: the animal’s condition will worsen again.

At what age is it allowed to give the drug to puppies?

The medication is strictly prohibited for dogs under 8 months of age. It’s better not to prescribe it at all until physical development is complete: up to 1–2 years, depending on the breed. The use of Execan at an early age not only disrupts the formation of the body, but can also lead to infertility.

How often to give cubes? Can they be used permanently?

Strictly adhere to the course of treatment specified in the instructions for use. It cannot be interrupted without the permission of the veterinarian and, moreover, extended. Long-term or repeated use, even intermittently, leads to serious pathological changes in the animal’s body.

Description of the drug Execan

Eczekan is a hormonal drug used in the treatment of non-infectious skin diseases in cats and dogs. The drug was developed by the French pharmaceutical company Ceva Sante Animale, which is also the manufacturer. But Russian veterinary pharmacies sell Execan, produced in Russia, since one of the production enterprises of Ceva Sante Animale is located at the Agrovetzashchita base (St. Petersburg).

Medicines produced by the French organization have been on the shelves of Russian pet pharmacies for 15 years. There are regional representative offices of Seva Sante Animal in many Russian cities, as they are capable of producing veterinary drugs for different types of animals. The company's product range includes medicines in the following areas:

  • biological products (homeopathy);
  • vaccines against various diseases;
  • antibiotics;
  • medicines for the treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases;
  • means for the treatment and prevention of parasitic diseases, etc.

Exekan is produced in the form of a small briquette (like a sugar cube), intended for feeding in dry or dissolved form. This medicine is sold in plastic blisters. The cubes are packaged in 8 pieces (like a plate of tablets), 2 blisters are packed in a cardboard box. The kit includes 1 instruction manual.

It is not necessary to buy the entire package at once. At the veterinary pharmacy, where I usually buy medicine for my cats, the entire box cost about 850 rubles. But they offered me to buy the required number of cubes (1 briquette - a little over 50 rubles). Perhaps Execan is not sold this way in every pharmacy, but blisters are sold separately everywhere.

Composition of Exekan

The preparation (1 briquette) consists of the following components:

  • dexamethasone - 1 mg;
  • nicotinamide (vitamin PP) - 10 mg;
  • pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) - 50 mg;
  • methionine - 300 mg;
  • filler - sucrose up to 8 g.

How to store the drug

Execan should be stored under the following conditions:

  • in manufacturer's packaging;
  • out of the reach of children;
  • separately from food and feed;
  • in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight;
  • at temperatures from 10°C to 25°C;
  • within 3 years from the date of production.

When is Exekan indicated?

The drug Execan eliminates allergies and non-infectious inflammatory diseases:

  • flea and seborrheic dermatitis;
  • allergic reactions;
  • inflammation of joints, connective tissue.

Before giving Execan to a sick dog, it is necessary to conduct a diagnostic examination and understand the nature of the disease. The medicine is not prescribed for viral, bacterial and fungal infections. It worsens the animal’s well-being when:

  • diabetes mellitus;
  • osteoporosis;
  • hypervitaminosis.

The use of the drug is contraindicated in puppies under eight months, pregnant and lactating bitches.

The drug is prescribed to cats for non-infectious skin diseases:

  • acute and chronic dermatitis of allergic origin;
  • flea and tick dermatitis;
  • food allergies, eczema, etc.

Execan relieves inflammation, normalizes metabolism, relieves the liver of toxins and helps relieve skin symptoms (itching goes away, wounds heal, etc.). The drug has all these effects due to the presence of active substances in it:

  • dexamethasone relieves inflammatory processes by being absorbed through the intestinal wall;
  • vitamins PP and B6 contribute to the restoration of skin cells;
  • methionine helps remove excess fat and toxins from the liver.

Execan is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • infectious diseases;
  • diabetes;
  • pregnancy;
  • intolerance to the components of the drug.

When treating a cat with Execan (with a violation of the dosage or treatment regimen), the following side effects may be observed:

  • vomiting, gastrointestinal ulcers, increased appetite, thirst;
  • convulsions;
  • increased blood pressure and swelling;
  • frequent urination;
  • the appearance of bald spots, etc.

Side effects from Execan in dogs are usually caused by the action of the main component (dexamethasone). This is a potent substance that is hormonal in nature. Side effects include the following:

  1. Decreased immune system function (dexamethasone has an immunosuppressive effect).
  2. Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in the form of transient hyperglycemia or diabetes mellitus.
  3. Osteoporosis, that is, a decrease in bone tissue and increased bone fragility (dexamethasone increases the excretion of calcium from the body and promotes its leaching from the bones).
  4. Violation of water-electrolyte metabolism in the form of sodium retention and increased potassium excretion (manifested by edema).
  5. Increased blood pressure.
  6. Damage to the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract (if the dosage is too high).
  7. Inhibition of lymphocyte proliferation (manifested by increased susceptibility to viral infections).

The following conditions are contraindications to the use of this drug:

  1. Bacterial infection (dexamethasone suppresses the immune system, which contributes to the generalization and rapid development of the infectious process).
  2. Diabetes.
  3. Pregnancy and lactation period.
  4. Osteoporosis.
  5. Autoimmune lesions in the acute stage.
  6. Heart diseases in the stage of decompensation.
  7. The use of drugs with a cytostatic effect.

In cases of overdose and sensitivity to the drug, vomiting is possible. Side effects: manifestation of Cushing's syndrome, hypertension, ulcerative lesions of the mucous surface of the gastrointestinal tract, edema, convulsions, diabetes and hepatitis of steroid origin.

Purpose

Dexamethasone and other active components of the drug are most effective for inflammatory processes manifested by skin lesions, if they are not caused by viruses and bacteria. Based on this, the drug is prescribed:

  • for acute and chronic dermatitis;
  • trophic ulcers;
  • eczema caused by allergic reactions of the body, if they are accompanied by itching and scratching.

Dermatitis is common in dogs. Some breeds have a predisposition to skin diseases at the genetic level. These include bulldogs, Rottweilers, Shar-Peis, Dalmatians and others. The inflammatory disease can affect not only the upper, but also the deeper layers of the skin. Depending on the cause that caused the inflammation of the skin, dermatitis can be:

  • contact;
  • thermal;
  • mechanical;
  • medicinal;
  • parasitic;
  • allergic.

If the disease is not infectious in nature, veterinarians prescribe Execan as a means of symptomatic therapy to relieve itching and inflammation.

Eczema is an inflammatory process of the skin. It can be caused by a variety of pathogenetic factors, and diagnosis is often difficult: it is difficult to see changes on the animal’s skin covered with thick hair while the disease is at the initial stage.

Dogs suffering from dermatitis and eczema have decreased appetite. Refusing food can lead to exhaustion. Exekan will help cope with itching and other unpleasant symptoms that cause discomfort in the animal.

If treatment is not started promptly, minor skin disorders can cause ulcers that are not prone to self-healing. Trophic ulcers are a dermatological pathology that is purulent-necrotic in nature and is accompanied by circulatory disorders, damage to blood vessels, the spinal cord and nerves.

Contraindications and side effects

The drug Execan eliminates allergies and non-infectious inflammatory diseases:

The use of the drug is contraindicated in puppies under eight months, pregnant and lactating bitches.

Reviews from experts show that the drug Execan is harmful for pregnant dogs. It will not bring any benefit to very small pets. If you have diseases such as diabetes mellitus or acute viral diseases, you should not give your pet this medicine. The drug will need to be discontinued if there is an individual intolerance.

Taking the drug in some situations may be accompanied by vomiting. However, such cases are very, very rare. In such a situation, it is recommended to stop taking the drug and consult a specialist. He will tell you what you can replace it with.

About eczema in dogs

This is the name for inflammation of the superficial layers of the skin. Eczema can be acute or protracted. All types are dry and wet. In practice, veterinarians encounter more dry, protracted eczema. Common symptoms of canine eczema include scratching of the skin, intense itching, weight loss, fever, and sometimes kidney disease.

Signs of skin disease in dogs develop over time. The first manifestation of the disease is characterized by redness of the skin. Then papules appear on the skin, then blisters and pustules (pustules). They open up and crusts with scales appear.

The entire process lasts from two to four weeks. The affected areas in the acute form of eczema are mainly localized on the neck, behind the ears, at the base of the tail, and on the outer plane of the thighs. If we are talking about a protracted form of eczema, then the affected areas are located from the root of the tail to the withers and along the ridge.

It is important to understand that older dogs are more susceptible to eczema. Its factors may include a lack of proteins and minerals, excess carbohydrates in the menu against the background of protracted diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, genetic predisposition, and excess weight.

How to use

According to the instructions for use, Alben C tablets are given to dogs once, regardless of whether they are used for preventive or therapeutic purposes. Since the active components affect mature parasites and their larvae, one dose is enough for your pet to get rid of helminths.

The drug can be given in two ways:

  • Forcibly.
    The procedure is unpleasant for animals, but effective. The tablet should be placed only on the root of the tongue so that the pet cannot spit it out. To simplify this procedure, it is worth purchasing a tablet dispenser at the pharmacy. Especially if you have a large dog.
  • With food.
    Mix the crushed tablet with a small amount of food. To feed the medicine, it is better to choose your pet’s favorite treats. Canned food, ready-made spiders, and minced meat are good for these purposes. Some owners hide the tablets in a piece of meat or sausage.

The anthelmintic should be given in the morning. It is advisable to give the medicine half an hour before feeding, but there is no need to follow a special diet the day before, or to rinse the intestines.

According to the instructions, the dosage of Alben S for dogs is calculated simply - 1 tablet per 5 kg of weight. To calculate the exact dose for puppies weighing less than 2.5 kg, follow these steps:

  1. Crush one tablet as finely as possible.
  2. Add 10 ml of water to the resulting powder.
  3. Mix thoroughly to obtain a homogeneous suspension.
  4. Draw the required amount of medicine into a syringe without a needle, calculating 1 ml of the resulting suspension per 0.5 kg of weight.
  5. Give the puppy a drink from the syringe.

If you use this algorithm of action, you will be able to prevent an overdose. Dividing a tablet into several equal parts (more than two) is very difficult.

If for some reason you use Alben, created for farm animals, to deworm dogs, then the dosage is calculated differently - 1 tablet per 7 kg of weight. When using a suspension, 1 ml of liquid will be needed per 5 kg of pet weight, but it is better to buy a drug intended for dogs.

Note! For preventive purposes, the animal should be given the drug every quarter.

How to use the drug, which comes in the form of sugar cubes

Since the drug comes in the form of sugar cubes, it is very convenient to use and feed to the dog. Pets usually eat sugar briquettes with pleasure. Otherwise, mix the sugar cube into the food or dissolve it in water.

The daily dosage for the treatment of allergies is as follows:

  • dogs that weigh less than 5 kg – 0.5 sugar cube;
  • for dogs whose weight is 5–15 kg, an average therapeutic dose (1 cube);
  • pets weighing more than 15 kg – 1.5 cubes;
  • with a body weight of 30 kg or more - 2 cubes.

Sugar cubes for allergies for dogs are usually used for no more than 4-5 days. In severe cases, it is possible to extend the use of the product up to 2 weeks. If you take it for a long time, you should stop using this drug gradually. The drug should be continued at half the dose for a week. Abrupt cessation of use may be accompanied by the development of withdrawal syndrome.

Composition and pharmacological properties

The high effectiveness of the drug is due to the fact that it contains 4 main components:

  • Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. The principle of its action is that it stabilizes the permeability of cell membranes and prevents the production of substances that take part in inflammatory processes. Dexamethasone is absorbed in the intestine and quickly penetrates through the bloodstream into all organs and tissues.
  • Methionine is an essential amino acid that prevents the accumulation of fat in the liver. It also neutralizes the effects of toxic substances and promotes their removal from the body.
  • Nicotinamide or vitamin PP is involved in metabolic processes. Helps restore the skin and coat in case of dermatitis and eczema. In addition, the vitamin has a positive effect on the functioning of the digestive system, but its deficiency can be reflected in weight loss.
  • Pyridoxine or vitamin B6 stimulates metabolism, and also starts regenerative processes and improves the condition of the skin.

Thanks to its complex composition, Exekan has the following effect:

  • relieves itching;
  • eliminates inflammation;
  • helps cleanse the liver of toxins;
  • improves metabolism;
  • stimulates the restoration of the skin and coat.

Based on the degree of impact, the medication is classified as low-hazard. Its components are not able to accumulate in the body. The drug is not addictive and does not have a negative effect on the liver; rather, on the contrary, it improves the functions of this organ.

conclusions

Execan for dogs is a strong hormonal drug.
Most dogs don't tolerate it well. In addition, serious complications often arise: Cushing's syndrome, suppression of the adrenal cortex, liver problems, steroid-induced diabetes and hepatitis. So I use it as a last resort. Dexafort injections work better and are easier to tolerate: I give one to three injections with a break of a week. And at the same time, I eliminate the cause that caused the dermatitis or eczema.

It is worth understanding that Execan simply relieves symptoms. Without eliminating the root cause of the disease, the pet’s condition will worsen again after the end of the therapeutic course. Therefore, do not use the drug as an independent remedy: it is prescribed only as part of a complex treatment. At the same time, hormone tests and examination of the liver and kidneys are desirable.

Limitations and side effects

An anthelmintic should not be given to dogs in the following cases:

  • during the period of gestation;
  • during lactation;
  • in case of intolerance to components.

Do not use anthelmintic for puppies under 3 weeks of age. Before using the medication for weakened or exhausted animals, as well as pets with infectious diseases, you must be extremely careful. It would be a good idea to consult a doctor. In some cases, it may be wiser to delay deworming until the animal's health has stabilized. Although Alben S is considered a safe product for dogs, it contains toxic components.

Usually the drug does not cause side effects because it is gentle on the body. The bitter taste causes some animals to overproduce saliva. Although this problem is more common in cats than in dogs. The following symptoms may indicate intolerance to components:

  • nausea and vomiting;
  • itching;
  • skin rashes;
  • apathy;
  • poor appetite, etc.

If the above health problems occur, your pet should be given an antihistamine. If necessary, additional medications are used for symptomatic therapy. In the future, you should choose a medication with a different composition.

Reviews

Owners

Larisa, 42 years old, Samara:

“The dog suddenly developed an allergy. By the method of exclusion, they came to the conclusion that the cause of its development was a collar with a fabric backing. To get rid of the itching that was preventing the dog from sleeping, walking, playing, eating, etc., the doctor prescribed Exekan.

The product helped quickly. Within the first hour, all symptoms disappeared. The treatment continued according to the regimen, but the next day the dog began to have diarrhea and vomiting. Execan is an effective drug, but it was not suitable for our pet, so the doctor prescribed another medicine.”

Sergey, 36 years old, Oktyabrsk:

“I have 2 Russian Toy Terrier dogs. Eating problems often arise. As soon as you eat something, skin dermatitis begins. Exekan helps us cope with food allergies.

The condition of the animals improves within a few minutes after administration. There is no need to force dogs to eat cubes, because... they are ready to eat them all at once. Redness on the skin disappears within a day. No side effects were observed during the treatment, except that the feeling of thirst increased.”

Veterinarians

Valentina Nikolaevna, veterinarian, Chelyabinsk:

“Execan is a highly effective drug that quickly relieves unpleasant symptoms. Already after the first dose, 30-40 minutes later the dog feels relief.

But owners should remember that the product only helps eliminate symptoms and does not cure the problem. It is good to use in complex therapy. Therefore, if a dog has eczema or allergic dermatitis, it is necessary to find out the cause of the disease.”

Svetlana Pavlovna, veterinarian, St. Petersburg:

“Allergic dermatitis is a common problem in animals. It’s good when owners monitor the health of their pet, i.e. visit the veterinarian regularly. The entries in the card allow you to choose the most appropriate treatment for your dog.

So, for example, if your pet does not have problems with the pancreas, Exekan is a good choice for him. He quickly copes with the task. As soon as the itching disappears, other symptoms immediately begin to subside, because... Nervous irritability goes away.”

Allergy treatment

This insidious disease is difficult to overcome. At the first manifestation of an allergy in your pet, you must contact a veterinary clinic in order to identify the cause of its occurrence. After this, the animal’s entire lifestyle and diet will have to be restructured so that the dog does not encounter the allergen. Sometimes this is quite difficult to do.

Your next step should be persistent and constant improvement. In this case, we are talking about cleansing the body. Usually sorbents are used for this. Herbal medicines can be added to them.

We talked about this so that you understand that Exekan (for dogs) will not be able to cope with allergies. The instructions for the drug describe quick help to the animal when itching and scratching can cause additional skin diseases. Sometimes it is impossible to do without such help. But owners cannot be sure that the symptoms of the disease will not return after the course.

Eczema, dermatitis, and other skin lesions in pets can be caused by various reasons. When choosing a medicine, veterinarians give preference to reliable and highly effective drugs. These include Exekan for dogs: a hormonal agent that quickly eliminates itching and inflammation.

Important points

Procox effectively destroys parasites, but does not eliminate the symptoms of coccidiosis. In this regard, when treating invasion, the doctor may prescribe symptomatic treatment. Do not self-medicate, since the antiparasitic drug is not compatible with all medications.

For the use of the medication to be effective, you must adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. When using Procox for treatment, it is necessary to treat the places where animals are kept for parasites. This will help prevent re-infection.
  2. If the situation in the nursery is unfavorable for coccidiosis, the suspension is given to all dogs received, including puppies from 2 weeks of age. Thanks to preventive actions, the risk of spreading the disease is reduced.
  3. You should strictly follow the drug use regimen prescribed by your doctor. Otherwise, its effectiveness may decrease.

According to the instructions, no peculiarities were found when using the medication for the first time.

Storage period and conditions

The drug is stored in a dry place at temperatures +10…+25 °C. The storage area should not be exposed to sunlight. Accessibility for children and animals must be strictly limited. In sealed packaging, “Ekzekan” is stored for 3 years. Depressurized cubes must be disposed of (if they were not immediately used to treat the animal).

Did you know? It was previously believed that cats were first domesticated in ancient Egypt about 4,500 thousand years ago. Archaeologists have refuted this fact by excavating one of the graves on the island of Cyprus. The grave is about 9,000 thousand years old, and the skeleton of a cat was found in it, which indicates the friendship of man with this animal long before this very friendship on the African continent.

Now you know how the drug works and how to use it as a therapy for cats. But despite all this, it is better to consult with an experienced veterinarian before starting treatment.

Composition and release form

Intended to combat helminths and other parasites, the drug is available in several forms:

  • in tablets;
  • in suspension;
  • in drops.

Tablets and suspension are intended for internal use, and drops are used for external treatment. They differ in composition and are used not only for deworming, but also for the destruction and prevention of ectoparasites. They have a wider spectrum of action. Oral preparations have a meaty aroma, so animals consume them with pleasure.

The tablets are packaged in blisters of 6 pieces. The suspension is sold in polymer bottles with a volume of 10 ml. The drug comes with not only instructions, but also a syringe, which makes it easy to measure the required amount of product. The drops are packaged in polymer pipettes of various sizes. They have a simple and convenient form for use.

Dironet, intended for internal use, contains the following active substances:

  1. Pyrantel pamoate – blocks the transmission of nerve impulses, leading to disruption of the nervous system of parasites. In addition, it contributes to the destruction of the cell membrane, which causes the death of adult individuals.
  2. Ivermectin - affects the nervous system and muscle membrane of parasites. When maximum concentration in the body is reached, it causes paralysis and death.
  3. Praziquantel - affects cestodes, disrupting metabolic processes in their body. Due to increased permeability of the cell membrane, as well as disruption of muscle function, the death of parasites occurs.

The drops for external use do not contain pyrantel pamoate, otherwise the active substances are identical.

Operating principle

The anthelmintic effect of the drug is due to two active components:

  • Fenbendazole - penetrates the body of helminths and leads to their paralysis and death by blocking energy exchange processes, disrupting muscle function, and destroying the structural elements of intestinal cells. The substance is effective against the larvae and eggs of cestodes and nematodes living in the lungs and intestines.
  • Praziquantel - has a detrimental effect on parasites due to the fact that it increases the permeability of their cell membranes to calcium ions. As a result, the helminths begin a strong contraction of muscle fibers, accompanied by further paralysis and death. Additionally, praziquantel weakens the connections between epithelial cells in parasites, which facilitates their unhindered digestion by digestive enzymes.

Thanks to the complex effects of the components, Kanikquantel is an effective drug that ensures the destruction of parasites after a single use. The substances are actively absorbed in the intestines, reaching maximum concentrations on the second day after use, and the residues are excreted in urine and feces up to 30 hours.
