Probalance Dog Food Review
Dry dog food Probalance (“Probalance”) is produced in Russia at the plant of the Danish company Aller Petfood A/S by order of the Russian company.
The official website is, it contains information about the composition, recommended feeding rates, and there is also the opportunity to buy this food. It belongs to the premium class. In addition to dog food, Probalance for cats is also produced.
Composition of feed Probalance
Let's look at the composition of Probalance food using the Starter option as an example (for puppies of all dog breeds, from 3 weeks to 3 months). You can see it in the photo below, click on the image to enlarge it for easier reading:

The first ingredient, dehydrated poultry (28%), is a good source of protein. The type of bird is not specified, probably mainly chickens. Further in the composition of protein-rich ingredients there is only fish meal and egg powder. That is, you can be sure that the main part of the 30% of protein indicated in the analysis is of animal origin (better absorbed than plant-based).
Rice, barley, peas and oats are used as sources of carbohydrates. Chicken fat, sunflower oil and fish oil are sources of fatty acids. Natural flavoring additives - it is clear what they are used for, but what they are not specified. Whole milk powder is a source of protein, fats, vitamins and other useful substances.
Brewer's yeast contains B vitamins. Flaxseed is a source of fiber and fatty acids. Beet pulp is a source of fiber. Next in the composition are dietary supplements of vitamins and minerals. They are followed by various useful additives; the manufacturer was not lazy and indicated in quotation marks which ones are used for what (so look at the photo above).
In 2022, the manufacturer updated the composition and now, instead of E321 and E320, a natural preservative is used - a mixture of tocopherols (essentially vitamin E).
After the composition, additives that preserve products are indicated. They are antioxidants E320 and E321, as well as the preservative myco carb. All of them are approved for use in Russia and EU countries, however, the E321 additive is not included in the list of completely safe ones (but its danger has also not been proven).
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of this food include:
- the main source of protein is dehydrated meat;
- good supplement of vitamins, minerals and other beneficial elements;
- wide range, there is food for puppies, adults, grain-free food;
- relatively low price (feed is cheaper than most analogues in composition).
Disadvantages of Probalance feed:
- unnatural antioxidants are used (but they are approved in both Russia and the EU);
- It is not very common and can only be purchased at some pet stores.
It should be noted that most manufacturers whose feed uses non-natural antioxidants and preservatives simply indicate “antioxidants” and “preservatives” in the ingredients. Here it is specified which ones (E320, E321), which is undoubtedly good.
Probalance line of dog food
The composition of Probalance dog food varies depending on which line it belongs to. Thus, dogs with sensitive digestion are not given grain components, and puppies need more minerals to form strong bones. The list of currently existing areas of Probalance includes:

You can also identify features by the color of the packaging. The yellow ones are packed with food for active dogs, the orange ones with food for puppies and animals during lactation or pregnancy. The green ones transport rations for dogs with stomach problems or a tendency to allergies. And in red packs there is food based on peas, potatoes and lentils, that is, grain-free. Purple color indicates that the composition contains rabbit or selected beef. Blue tutus, in turn, are suitable for older dogs or pets with reduced physical activity.

“Probalance” includes several lines of special food that are intended for pets of different ages and with different characteristics. The range of food is quite wide and caters to any animal’s needs.
Probalance food is intended for puppies of large and small breeds, for active pets, for small and medium breeds of dogs, and also separately for large pets. Any of the foods were primarily created in order to provide dogs with good health and saturate their bodies with useful substances.
Blue series
The blue “Probalance” series is intended for animals that are quite lazy or do not respond to strong physical exertion. It has a more dietary structure and does not allow such dogs to gain excess weight.
It is universal and does not have any special features. The percentage of protein in the food is quite high, which means that such nutrition helps to remove fat and gain muscle mass.

What is included in the feed?
The main component of Probalance is meat. It takes up approximately 16-30% of the pack. Typically, bran or barley is added, but these sources of fiber may be removed, for example if the food is hypoallergenic. The composition always contains at least 6% rice cereal, 4% salmon meal, and processed animal fats. Among the additional, but often found components are beet pulp, flaxseed, and a complex vitamin supplement for dogs.
The advantage of the manufacturing company is that it always reflects which elements are included in the vitamin complex. Moreover, they do not even hide the names of those that are harmful to dog health. But no need to worry: the composition has been approved by the Russian veterinary community and has passed European certification, so the risks of poisoning due to additives are minimal. The guaranteed indicators in Probalance dry food are as follows:
- 25% crude protein;
- 12% crude fat;
- 6.5% ash;
- 3% crude fiber;
- 1.3% calcium;
- 0.9% phosphorus.
Feed composition overview
Premium feeds are characterized by the presence of by-products. They usually appear at the very beginning of the ingredient list and are disguised as “bird protein.” Products from the Probalance company do not suffer from this, since they contain dehydrated meat (usually chicken). Its amount in the composition varies from 22 to 30% depending on the line. The same goes for protein, fiber, ash and other ingredients. The manufacturer, by changing the percentage of components, affects the properties of the product.
The word dehydrated consists of two parts - de (without) and hydro (water). Accordingly, the meat contained in Probalance is natural, but dried.
ADULT BEEF as an example
In many sources you can find references to the fact that the Probalance company uses unnatural and even unsafe food additives (for example, E321). This information is out of date as all feed formulations have recently been updated. At the moment, the manufacturer uses natural additives to increase the shelf life of products.
Feeding table
The daily amount of feed depends on several factors. It is necessary to take into account the type of dry diet, for example, Probalance for large breed puppies is divided into five doses per day and stored open for as short a time as possible. A standard diet at a certain age is also important. So, puppies up to three months should eat six times a day, from six months - three times. And after a year, twice feeding is enough. Of course, 20%-30% meat is better than nothing, but dogs are carnivores by nature, which means this is still not enough. So, if possible, buy better food (for example, Akana, Eukanuba).
