The most basic instructions for using Troncil for dogs

With the onset of the warm season, the number of cases of parasite infection increases. You can pick them up while walking or while swimming in ponds.

Worms can lead to serious illnesses if they are not removed promptly. It happens that everything ends tragically. To avoid such situations, it is important to cleanse your pet’s body of helminths. Troncil is considered one of the inexpensive and effective drugs.

Should I use it for worms?

Trontsil is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug suitable for dogs and puppies. It consists of three main components, which together lead parasites to paralysis and then death.

The medicine acts on both adults and larvae. Dogs tolerate the drug well and it poses no danger to them. Trontsil is instantly absorbed into the blood and intestines. The drug is excreted within a couple of days through feces and urine.

Trontsil is prescribed for:

  • prevention of helminthiasis;
  • removal of round and flat worms (mesocestoidosis, trichura, hookworm, toxocara, echinococcus and others);
  • treatment of helminthiasis.

In cases where there are a large number of worms in the dog’s body, the veterinarian suggests giving a laxative. Otherwise, when removing paralyzed worms, constipation may occur.

Purpose

Helminthic infestations - infection of an animal's body - can be caused by different types of parasites:

  • nematodes, roundworms that parasitize mainly in the dog’s intestines, but there are also species that affect the heart or migrate in the subcutaneous tissues;
  • Cestodes are tapeworms that live mainly in the intestines of animals. They can reach several meters in length and cause inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal upset, exhaustion and weakness.

The most common worms in dogs are nematodes. The most common toxocaras are Toxascaris leonina and Toxocara canis. This type of parasite is also dangerous for humans.

Mosquitoes are carriers of heartworms. Infection of animals occurs after the bite of blood-sucking insects. For dogs, they are dangerous because they penetrate the heart, which leads to disruption of its functioning.

Hookworms can enter a dog's body through food (raw meat, fish) or through the skin. Infection is indicated by:

  • black feces;
  • cough;
  • prolonged diarrhea;
  • noticeable weight loss.

A dangerous parasite is uncinaria. Penetrating through the skin, they are activated in the body, feed on the blood, causing anemia in animals. If deworming is not carried out, massive infection with uncinaria can

Among the cestodes parasitizing in the dog's intestines, the most common are:

  • cucumber tapeworm Dipylidium caninum, transmitted by fleas;
  • wide tapeworm (Diphyllobothrium latum) – infection is possible if the dog eats raw freshwater fish;
  • echinococci - enter the dog’s body with raw meat of domestic or wild animals;
  • taeniaids - infection can occur through pig meat.

Trontsil is a complex drug that is used for the prevention and treatment of helminthic infestations, as well as the treatment of:

  • giardiasis;
  • opisthorchiasis.

Giardiasis

- dangerous not only for animals, but also for humans. The disease is characterized by prolonged or intermittent diarrhea in which the stool is foul-smelling and contains mucus. Trontsil actively affects Giardia and after a three-day course of treatment rids the pet’s body of parasites.

Opisthorchiasis is another disease that can affect humans. Parasites develop in the tissues of freshwater fish and enter the animal's body when eating raw or poorly cooked fish. The disease affects the liver and gall bladder.

Compound

Active ingredients:

  • praziquantel (50 mg);
  • pyrantel embonate (144 mg);
  • febantel (150 mg);
  • lactose;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • sodium lauryl sulfate;
  • microcrystalline cellulose;
  • polyvinylpyrrolidone;
  • Aerosil;
  • potato starch.

Due to its three active components, the drug is capable of causing paralysis in parasites of various species. It suppresses enzyme activity, disrupts the integrity of the body and muscles of parasites. They stop receiving food, and death occurs.

Precautionary measures

When treating with Troncil, the following precautions must be observed:

  1. Do not exceed the dosage of the drug after weighing the animal.
  2. During preparation of the product for direct use by the dog, there is no need to eat, drink, or smoke.
  3. After the treatment procedure, you should wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
  4. The drug may cause an allergic reaction in you, in which case you should wear gloves.
  5. If the medicine gets into your eyes, they should be rinsed thoroughly with water.
  6. If the drug was accidentally taken by a person, you should consult a doctor, taking with you the instructions for using troncil or its packaging.

That is, no specific requirements for precautionary measures when working with the specified composition are put forward; it is enough to adhere to the general rules of contact with medications.

Please note that parasites: fleas and ticks are also a common cause of poor health in dogs. Check out the drugs that fight parasites in dogs: “Bars”, “Advocate”, “Frontline”, “Bravecto”.

Dosage in tablets

Trontsil is used to remove roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms and others from the age of six months. The drug is dosed based on the weight of the animal:

  • up to 2 kg – 0.25 tablets;
  • from 2 to 5 kg – 0.5 tablets;
  • from 5-10 kg – 1 tablet;
  • from 20-30 kg – 2 tablets;
  • from 30-40 kg – 3 tablets;
  • from 40 kg – 4 tablets.

There is no need to diet or fast before using the drug. It is given once during the morning feeding.

To prevent helminthiasis, it is enough to use Trontsil once every three months in the dose indicated in the instructions. It has no contraindications, but it is prohibited to use it with other deworming agents.

Indications for use and mechanism of action

The direct indication for the use of the drug Trontsil is the removal of helminths from the dog’s body. Effective against nematodes and cestodes. Trontsil can be used not only for treatment. It is also used to prevent helminthiasis.

The active components of the drug cause disruption of glucose transport and increase the permeability of parasite cell membranes. This causes complete paralysis of the helminth and its further death.

Praziquantel, which is part of Troncil, is excreted from the body in the urine.

The remaining active ingredients are excreted in feces within 1-2 days.

How to give?

Lucky are those owners whose pets eat everything you offer them. They can even swallow medicine. But many dogs have to be forced or tricked. Several ways to give your animal medicine:

  1. Place it on your tongue. To do this, you need to open the dog's mouth and quickly place the tablet on the root of the tongue. Raise your pet's head up and gently stroke its throat so that the dog swallows. Don't forget to praise your pet. If you are afraid to get into an animal’s mouth, you can buy a special syringe for pills and use it.
  2. Mix into food. A surefire way for owners of aggressive dogs who definitely won’t let anyone get into their mouths. The tablet should be well hidden in a piece of meat or another favorite dish of the dog. Don't leave your pet alone and make sure he eats everything. Some dogs felt a strange taste and spat out the tablet.
  3. Crumble. Can be added to kefir or wet food. But before giving the tablet in this form, check with your veterinarian whether the medicine can be mixed with food.

Also, keep in mind that not every dog eats food that smells like medicine. Keep this in mind if you offer your animal the last tablet, which he may simply leave in the bowl.

Adverse reactions and contraindications

If the doses are observed, there are no negative reactions from the body. However, in rare cases, manifestations of individual intolerance are possible, which are individual in each case. Increased salivation may occur immediately after taking the medicine. Less common are diarrhea, vomiting and itchy skin. The medicine has no contraindications and can be used to treat even old animals.

In rare cases, cats may experience diarrhea while taking the drug.

My cat always had increased salivation after taking these medications. At first I was scared of this because I thought it was some kind of dangerous symptom. But, as it turned out, this arose from the bitterness of the drug. To eliminate this side effect, you need to give your pet something tasty immediately after taking the pill.

If it gets bad

In recommended and correctly calculated doses, the medicine is safe for dogs. There are cases that in the first few hours the animal may feel side effects:

  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • abdominal pain;
  • diarrhea;
  • weakness in the body;
  • muscle pain.

This condition passes quickly and seeing a doctor is not necessary.

In case of a drug overdose, the following effects occur:

  • apathy, lethargy;
  • foam is released from the animal's mouth;
  • thirst;
  • inappropriate behavior.

If such signs of poisoning occur, it is recommended to take immediate action and seek professional help.

Restrictions

Trontil is not prescribed:

  • pregnant and lactating females;
  • puppies under 1.5 months;
  • weakened animals;
  • suffering from pathologies of the liver and kidneys;
  • for infectious diseases;
  • with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

In the first hours after administration, the dog may experience slight dizziness, accompanied by loss of orientation, diarrhea, and weakness. The symptoms go away on their own and do not require medical intervention.

Pregnant, lactating and puppies

The drug is well absorbed by animals, but there are some contraindications. These include:

  1. Early pregnancy. Troncil can affect the nervous system, which is just beginning to form in the fetus.
  2. Breastfeeding. The active substances of the drug can get into the puppies during sucking, and this will have a bad effect on their health.
  3. Puppies are less than six weeks old.

Animals with kidney and liver pathologies are also at risk.

To dogs prone to allergic reactions, give the drug with caution and after consultation with a veterinarian.

pharmachologic effect

Troncil-K helps fight various types of intestinal worms: 1. Nematodes. 2. Cestodes. 3. Trematodes. The principle of action of the drug is based on the ability to prevent the connection and absorption of glucose in the body of helminths, which results in the destruction of the latter. As a result of a malfunction in the nervous system, the parasite becomes paralyzed and loses the ability to stay inside the intestine. In addition to destroying adult worms, the drug helps get rid of larvae and immature individuals. An important advantage of an anthelmintic product is its ability to be absorbed fairly quickly in the gastrointestinal tract. A 3-hour period of time is sufficient for this. The largest amount of the active substance is present in the cat’s body for 24 hours. Dead helminths are eliminated naturally during bowel movements.

I don’t resort to any tricks, I just take the dose we need and put it on my pet’s tongue. She swallows it quickly. I'm already used to it. After this he always gets a treat. We took tests several times to check how effective the product was. It has never let us down, I’m satisfied.”

“The vet once prescribed us pills. Since then I have been buying them constantly. I take the whole package at once, there are 20 pieces in it. Since I carry out prevention constantly, it goes away quickly.

“I have more than once encountered the fact that when using suspensions and pastes against helminths, dogs experience vomiting, diarrhea, etc. These are side effects from an overdose.

In order for everything to go well, I recommend the drug Trontsil to my clients. It is easy to dose and animals accept it well. No one has yet come and complained that the dog was not feeling well. If side effects occur, they disappear after a couple of hours.”

What is Troncil for dogs?

The domestically produced drug belongs to the category of antiparasitic drugs. There is only one release form - tablets. You can purchase a package with an acceptable number of pills.

The drug is available in a blister pack of several pieces (enough quantity for a course of treatment for a small pet); you can also purchase a bottle containing 20 round white tablets. Troncil for dogs always comes with instructions for use. For ease of dosage, each pill has a notch that divides it into equal halves.

Trontil has an average absorption rate (about 3-4 hours) and remains in the body for almost a day. After 48 hours, during metabolism, the drug is excreted through the animal’s waste products, mainly urine. Some amount can be found in feces. The medicine does not have the effect of accumulation in tissues, so it does not harm the dog if the dosage is followed.
