We choose a treat for training dogs, and also make a bag for them with our own hands

Organizing food for dogs in an enclosure is one of the important aspects for the life and health of pets. Dog owners are faced with the problem of not only adequately feeding and watering them, but also ensuring the convenience and safety of this process for all family members and the animals themselves. Let's consider what options are available for choosing feeders and drinkers in the enclosure.

What types of treat bags are there for dogs?

Having decided to engage in training, you must also take care of convenient ammunition. The speed of achieving results depends on how comfortable you are during the lesson and how quickly you get the treat.

Do I need special bags for goodies during class? Of course, you can come to training with a plastic bag. But it's inconvenient. The dog will be distracted by it and will try to get inside more than once. If you put a sausage in your pocket, you will ruin your clothes. All treats leave greasy stains, which then need to be removed.

Benefits of using a handbag:

1) Convenient location on the belt, you instantly take out a piece without rummaging in a bag or pocket.

2) Made from a special material that is easy to wash. Some handbags have convenient pockets for a cell phone, keys, etc. If you work out on the street, then you have everything with you.

3) Ritual meaning for a dog. This is a very important point that is used by professional trainers. By wearing a handbag to every lesson, you will form a habit in your dog - there is a handbag, it will be an interesting training. Of course, the dog will obey you anyway. But during a walk, the bag will be a powerful incentive; the dog will watch you, waiting for a treat.

Kinds:

1. Exhibition. These are small pockets that hold just a few pieces or a tiny toy. The main parameters of such bags are beauty, muted color, and small size. In the ring, this little thing should be in harmony with the handler’s costume, securely attached to the belt, and there will be enough tasty things for a three-minute stay in front of the expert.

2. On a carbine . These are large bags that can hold treats for an hour-long session. They attach with a carabiner to the waistband of your trousers. Comfortable, non-staining, popular handbags. This type is used by a huge number of dog handlers and amateurs. Disadvantage: they dangle when moving, since the attachment point is only at the top through the lock.

3. On the belt. This is a more professional option, it is convenient, they fit tightly, and you don’t have to look for a belt to attach the bag. Most options have several zippered pockets: one large one for a treat or toy, others for various things (clicker, keys, phone). There are very simple ones, with one large cavity. There are chic ones with a bunch of compartments, right down to bottle fastenings, real tourist backpacks.

4. Bag-skirt. These are mainly used by professional athletes. The equipment is equipped with large pockets for toys around the entire perimeter, small compartments for treats, and some include a bag for treats on a carabiner. This belt is easy to put on outerwear; you can put everything you need: a retrieval item, a treat, a collar, a leash, etc.

Using a bag will make your activities easier. The main thing in training is to teach the dog correctly and not be distracted by inconvenient equipment.

Material

Each type of material has its own pros and cons. Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Plastic

The advantages of plastic include:

  • cheapness;
  • variety of colors and designs;
  • Can be used outdoors at sub-zero temperatures.

On the downside:

  • unknown quality of plastic (possible poisoning);
  • lightness of the products - the animal will easily turn over the container;
  • puppies may mistake such dishes for a toy (they will chew them and harm themselves).

These bowls are good as a travel option for one-time use.

Ceramics

The advantages of ceramic bowls are:

  • heavy weight (difficult to move or turn over);
  • material safety;
  • the coating remains new for a long time;
  • Suitable for use in winter conditions.

Flaws:

  • if handled carelessly, they break easily;
  • high price;
  • difficult to fix on the stand.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel bowls also have positive and negative features.

Positive:

  • durability;
  • mounted on stands and tripods;
  • easy to clean;
  • safety;
  • affordable price.

A negative feature of metal utensils is that it is undesirable to use them in winter, since the animal can stick its tongue to it in the cold. Although there are varieties with heating.

Of the three types, metal bowls are the safest for long-term use.

Treats for dog training

A wide range of ready-made delicacies allows you to choose the most suitable option for each specific case. This food can be wet or dry . The ready-made food for rewards produced differs not only in cost and form, but also in its composition, so the choice must be approached very responsibly.

It is especially important to choose the right reward option for puppies or pets with any pathologies:

It should be noted that any treat that is used in the training process is always part of the daily diet, so its calorie content and quantity must be taken into account when calculating the daily food intake for a pet.

Features of choice

There are several criteria that must be taken into account.

  • You need to take a responsible approach to choosing bowls. It is important to decide what you will feed your pet: will it be natural food or industrial food. The volume of the selected container depends on this. It is required that the cup is filled to no more than 2/3 of its capacity to prevent food granules from spilling on the sides.
  • The character of the four-legged friend and its breed characteristics must be taken into account, for example, the shape of the muzzle, the length of the coat, as well as the shape and length of the ears. English and American Cocker Spaniels and Dachshunds need cone-shaped bowls to prevent their beards and ears from getting dirty. Small breed dogs with flat faces (French bulldog, Pekingese, pug) need dishes with a convex bottom. And their tall counterparts with a large muzzle (Great Dane, St. Bernard, Alabai, Shepherd) are more suitable for deep cups.
  • You need to understand what the dishes for your pet will be made of. There are bowls made of plastic, ceramic and stainless steel.

Treats for dogs: recipe

Many dog breeders do not trust the composition of ready-made treats, so they prefer to prepare treats for dog training on their own, using the most natural ingredients possible .

This option is especially relevant if it is necessary to adhere to a special diet for animals that have any health problems or react poorly to ready-made food.

Meat croutons

It is necessary to boil beef, offal in the form of liver, lung and tripe, chicken or turkey, then cool the ingredients to room temperature, cut into 10x10 mm cubes, place on a baking sheet and dry well in the oven.

A properly prepared natural meat delicacy should not be crispy, but rather well-dried .

Meat cookies

Grind the meat and by-products in a kitchen blender until it becomes fine mince, add rye and wheat flour, eggs, chopped herbs and a little salt.
Form the dough into balls up to one and a half centimeters in diameter and bake in a well-heated oven.

The vitamin version of such dog biscuits may include fruit or vegetable puree.

The finished treat should not be overdried or too hard.

Features of the automatic drinker

Another important issue concerns drinking. In rotating bowls, this issue is resolved by installing another bowl, which should be deeper in size, since the volume of liquid consumed may vary depending on weather conditions, characteristics of the breed, activity of the animal and feeding habits. For example, a medium breed dog eating dry food can drink up to two liters of liquid per day.

By analogy with automatic feeders, there are the following devices for supplying animals with drink.

Mounted drinkers. Some of them are suitable for different types of polyethylene bottles, which has a number of practical properties. This preserves the purity of the water and the ability to select the desired container volume. They have cage mounts. This type of automatic drinker eliminates splashing of liquid on the sides, so the enclosure will be dry and clean.

Drinking from the automatic drinker does not evaporate over time. Insects and animal hair do not get into it.

This type of drinker is often used for keeping rodents. The only difference is the thicker nipple, which has a built-in ball valve of a correspondingly larger diameter. By licking it, the animal receives the required amount of liquid.

Drinking fountains. They were invented for animals that do not like to drink standing water. In this drinker, thanks to a small pump, the liquid constantly circulates, passing through a coarse filter, which traps food particles that fall into it, wool, dust and insects (relevant in the summer). These models have other nice features offered by various representatives. For example, a built-in carbon filter that maintains the freshness, quality and taste of your drink.

Dog Treat Bag

The most popular among dog breeders are small, compact, convenient for training an animal, as well as models of bags made of durable and high-quality materials that are in demand during a walk or exhibition.

Professional dog handlers recommend paying attention to the following main characteristics when choosing:

A correctly chosen bag must be very light and compact , convenient for trips, walks and activities with a four-legged pet. Basically, all accessories sold on the domestic market are represented by models with a clip and carabiner or belt bags. Products from such well-known manufacturers as Hunter, Onega, Hurtta Pro, Gigwi and OSSO have proven themselves best.

Dimensions of enclosures

It is necessary to calculate the size of the enclosure taking into account the characteristics of the pet’s breed. There are special norms developed by dog experts. When creating a design with your own hands, first of all, draw a drawing of a dog house. This will help calculate the consumption of building materials. The size of the dog house is chosen according to its height and breed.

General requirements and standards

The size of the dog directly affects the size of the future enclosure. In addition, it is important to consider the number of pets if they live together in the same area. There are special standards for the size of enclosures developed for different breeds:

  • Dogs over 65 cm tall must be kept in an enclosure of at least 10 square meters. m.
  • if the pet has a height at the withers of 50-65 cm, the area of the arena should be more than 8 square meters. m.
  • if the height is less than 50 cm, you should equip an enclosure of at least 6 square meters. m.

If the playpen is equipped for several pets, it should be more spacious. Two adult dogs should be kept in a fenced enclosure area one and a half times larger than needed for one dog. It is better to build a separate booth for each animal. Often there are spacious houses that can accommodate several pets at once.

It is necessary that the enclosure have several zones:

  • winter road;
  • part of the paddock, which is covered with a canopy;
  • open part of the walk.

One part of the walk is made with wooden flooring. The other should have open ground. This distribution of the enclosure area allows the dog to walk in any weather conditions. In sunny weather, she can always warm up, and in case of extreme heat, she can hide under a canopy.

DIY Treat Bag

If necessary, you can sew a useful accessory yourself , with minimal time, money and effort.
Tools and material:

Self-production technology:

At the final stage, a carabiner is inserted and a shoe lace is threaded, with the help of which the bag will be securely closed . It is recommended to have a couple of such accessories, which will allow you to wash them more often and, if necessary, replace them in a timely manner.

Shape and size of the booth

The Central Asian Shepherd is a non-decorative dog. She does not need beauty and attractive appearance. The booth for her should be simple and functional. Since the dog climbs onto the roof and uses it as an observation point, it is better to make the roof flat and sloped. Now regarding the design. You can make a simple booth consisting of one compartment. Another option is to create a structure with a berth and vestibule.

The dimensions of the Alabai booth depend on its size. If it is too big, then it will be cold in it, but in a small booth the pet will be uncomfortable. Below is a photo that shows how to calculate the size of the booth for an adult Central Asian Shepherd.

It becomes clear that for the Alabai you need a booth, the length of which is 135 cm, the width is about 100 cm and the height is 95 cm. The size of the hole is 40x60 cm. Now let’s move on from theory to practice.

Treat bags

Training a dog never stops, and at any moment we may need to reward it with a treat for the right action. And if at home we can place treats on shelves in different rooms so that we can reach the nearest container with reinforcement at the right time, then what about when we go outside?

The treat should be at hand so that we can quickly and easily offer it to the dog. Putting food in your pocket is not always convenient or pleasant, especially if we are not talking about dry food or other dry types of food. Putting a treat in a bag and the bag in your pocket is also not an option, because... at the most necessary moment, when “delay is like death,” it may suddenly turn out that the bag has turned over in your pocket, the food has spilled out, or the bag suddenly twisted and, while you are trying to open it to get a piece of the reward, your dog has already forgotten what it is she did something wonderful. As a result, the desired behavior will not be rewarded, but there is a chance, due to an error in timing, that you will not reward what was necessary.

A comfortable bag for treats, always at hand, makes the process of raising a dog more comfortable. I have encountered opponents of using handbags several times, but when discussing what caused their hostility, it turned out that people had bad experiences with handbags from the cheap segment. Therefore, I will highlight separately what you need to pay attention to when choosing this type of canine equipment. In order for the handbag to be convenient to use, you need to choose bags with hard walls (these will not wrinkle, and it is convenient and quick to get food out of them); it is important to pay attention to the diameter of the opening, especially if you have large hands. Also, do not forget that bags that are attached with a carabiner will twist and dangle, which may be inconvenient for you. When choosing a bag with a clip or belt loops, this inconvenience is eliminated.

Let's now look at what treat bags are.

I would divide them into 5 groups: • Open bags • Handbags with a rope closure • Handbags with a magnetic clasp • Belt bags • Other containers

1. TRIXIE Goody Bag Snack

Open handbags occupy the cheapest segment of the market. This is an extremely simple handbag, essentially an open fabric cup (photo 1). By the way, owners often put plastic cups in them to prevent food from contaminating the fabric. Simple design with very convenient access to treats. However, there is also a weakness of such bags: due to the fact that it does not close in any way, there is a high risk of losing a significant portion of food if you are actively working with your dog: running, jumping or bending over.

2. TRIXIE Dog Activity Baggy Snack Bag

The next type of handbag is a handbag with a rope clasp. Most of them (photo 2, 3). They differ from each other in: • the rigidity of the material (the stiffer the back wall, the better the bag will keep its shape and the trainer’s hand will not have to look for a hole), • size, • the number of pockets (in the pockets of some bags you can place, in addition to food for the dog, keys , bags for cleaning up feces, a clicker and even a telephone), • as well as the method of attachment (for example,

3. Hurtta junior treat bag

bags with a carabiner are not as comfortable as bags with an alligator clip).

The advantage of such a bag is that outside of work it can be closed by tightening the string, and the treat will remain safe and sound. Of the minuses, I would draw attention to the fact that with regular use the rope quickly becomes greasy and wears out. However, a person is an easily trainable creature, and subject to regular work using such a bag, the skill of unraveling the rope and tightening it becomes automatic, increasing the speed of access to treats.

Having tried about a dozen different models of treat bags, I find the ones with a magnetic closure to be the most convenient. The magnetic clasp allows you to quickly open and close the bag in one short movement. Most often, handbags with a magnetic clasp are exceptionally thought out in terms of rigidity and functionality. The market offers quite a large selection of such handbags, but I will focus on those models that I liked the most.

4. Magnetic silicone bag

A simpler option is a Chinese silicone bag with a magnet (photo 4). A very simple design, consisting of a single container, closed with a small magnet, and attached to a pocket or belt using a clip. A definite and big plus in the material of the handbag - silicone is perfectly and easily washed, quite soft and tactilely pleasant to the hand, but at the same time holds its shape. The downside is that the clips on such bags are soft and shallow; the bags are easily unfastened from the owner when bending or jumping. So when using such a handbag, it is better to be careful so as not to accidentally lose it. The magnet of such bags is usually not very strong, and if the bag is more than half full of contents, it can easily open at the most inopportune moment, delighting our pet with a sudden rain of food. But these handbags have a rich range of colors.

Handbags from Doggone are my personal favorites. I am very impressed by the size of both models and the rich range of colors (besides, they regularly release limited editions in fun colors). The lining of their treat pockets is made of liquid-retaining material.

5. Doggone Good Trek n Train

A smaller bag (Good Trek n Train model) (photo 5), in my opinion, is perfect for working with a dog not at the “beginner” level - its volume holds enough food for a two-hour walk with an intense 30-minute workout (we are talking about a dog the size of from Labrador). The dimensions of the bag are approximately 15x14 cm, diameter is about 10 cm. An excellent, fairly strong magnet - it will not allow the bag to suddenly swing open, but at the same time it opens with a slight movement of your finger. Excellent strong clip, as well as the ability to attach to a belt using two loops. Rigid walls, two additional pockets - one with Velcro, the other with a zipper, and a ring for attaching a clicker, whistle or target.

6. Doggone Good Rapid Rewards

And the “big brother” is the RapidReward model (photo 6, 7). Also a rich range of colors, as well as regular releases of limited editions in fun fantasy colors. Of course, functionality is our priority, but when an aesthetic component is added to the functionality, working with such accessories is even more pleasant. This model is noticeably larger in size (14.5x17x7 cm), but remains quite comfortable to wear. The handbag of this model has one important advantage - a separate pocket for the jackpot! It is located inside the main pocket, making it easy and convenient to get to. In addition, the handbag has two side pockets, one front pocket with Velcro and one back pocket with a zipper. There are two fastenings - loops for attaching to a belt (you can buy the belt separately, or you can use your regular one) and a clip.

8. Ezydog SNAKPAK PRO

For those who absolutely do not like the fact that the handbag is below waist level, there is an option that is more expensive, but also of better quality: a handbag from EzyDog, model SNAKPAK PRO (photo 8). This is a fairly large sealed treat pocket that closes with a magnetic clasp. On the front there is an additional zippered pocket where you can put your keys. And on the sides of the main pocket there are two small elastic pockets for the necessary small items - a credit card, bags for feces. All this is located on the belt (it is impossible to unfasten the belt).

9. TRIXIE Baggy Belt Hip Bag

Belt bags are usually preferred by those who take quite a lot of things with them on walks, but do not want to use a canine belt, canine vest or backpack. A belt bag is different in that it usually has several fairly voluminous pockets, carabiners and

rings for attaching something, for example, a drinking bowl. From the “cheap but cheerful” series, I would highlight handbags from Trixie (photo 9) or Fordogtrainers (photo 10) - a fairly large pocket for treats, albeit with a zipper, additional pockets with Velcro, a ring for attaching a drinking bowl.

Of course, all the bags discussed above are convenient for use when working with chunky treats. But what should you do if you want to use, for example, cottage cheese in your work? Or minced meat?

For those who prefer to reward their dog with a soft, homogenized treat, there is also a solution, although the choice is limited.

First of all, tubes, for example, from GoToob (photo 11). This is a silicone transparent tube from which treats can be squeezed out. The nozzle has a tongue (approximately 3 mm in diameter and about 0.05 mm in thickness), which controls the supply of soft treats. However, I will immediately draw attention to its fragility. It usually comes off within the first 2 weeks of use (the dog may swallow it). This does not affect the functionality of the tube itself.

The advantages are transparency (you can clearly see how much treat is left in the tube), tightness, and convenient to give to the dog. This is where the advantages end. Of the minuses: such tubes are very difficult to fill with a soft and slightly sticky treat. And the most annoying thing is that quite a large amount of the treat remains smeared and stuck to the walls. When you can’t squeeze anything out to the dog, but you see (oh, this transparency!) how much else is left in this tube out of reach. And in order to wash the tube, you will need to buy a small but long brush, otherwise there is no other way.

Another option is the wonderful GAKO syringe jars (photo 12, 13). Jars exist in 4 options: 3 sizes and 1 option consists of three different sized containers. Each set has a set of attachments that allow you to vary the volume of treats dispensed. The jars are easy to fill, easy to squeeze out, and the piston moves so tightly along the walls of the container that it does not leave a drop of delicacy on the walls. Easy to clean.

And please do not forget to reduce your dog’s daily diet by the amount of food that he received during training. Excess weight is a big burden on the body, which can lead to health problems.

How to secure a bowl in an enclosure?

The fastening system of the bowl is also important. Here are the following points.

  • The feeder should be located at the level of the dog's chest, which will avoid curvature of the spine (this is important for puppies). In addition, low-mounted bowls (as well as those placed on the floor) can lead to air being swallowed during food consumption. And this, in turn, can lead to at least increased gas formation or acute expansion of the stomach.
  • It should also be installed so that it is freely accessible for the dog and its owner.

Retractable and rotating feeders have enjoyed considerable success. But they are supplied ready-made, built into the enclosure door with a small locking bolt. Using welding, you can make the same modification to your existing enclosure yourself. This mechanism makes it easier to access the dishes. Frees you from having to open the door and go inside.

There are also automatic feeders. This option will be convenient, for example, in the country. Or when there is a need to be away for 1-2 days or more. The granules spill out to the bottom of the bowl as you eat them. This method is convenient for owners whose pets eat dry food and do not suffer from bulimia. Some craftsmen make such designs on their own from scrap materials. For example, one option includes two 18.9 liter plastic bottles and a section of PVC pipe used for sewerage.

There are a lot of such homemade products on the Internet. Anyone can use one of them.

The issue with pets that have a tendency to overeat is solved with the help of factory automatic feeders that have a timer installed. The mechanism dispenses the required amount of feed at a certain interval.

Experiments with an automatic feeder usually begin a month before the planned departure date, so that the pet gets used to the innovations, and the owner is able to decide on the dosage and amount of food for this period.

Booth for alabai

When the enclosure is ready, you can make a booth for it. What should it be like? Let's start with the material. Ideally use wood. We already know why this is the best option. The dog will feel warm and cozy inside. In addition, the material is environmentally friendly and will not cause any harm to the dog’s health. In winter, the booth will be warm, and in summer it will be quite comfortable inside.

And to keep this warmth, the booth will have to be insulated. Polystyrene foam will do just fine. It's cheap and does the job perfectly. Polystyrene foam can be replaced with sawdust or mineral wool. And to prevent it from being damp and humid inside, the structure rises slightly above the ground.

The roof does not have to be ordinary. After all, the Alabai booth needs to be cleaned and ventilated from time to time. It is simply impossible to do this without a removable roof. You can simply make a flat roof and equip it with hinges. And to prevent precipitation from accumulating on it, you will have to maintain a certain slope.

I bought bags for treats for all occasions (I’ll show you now), I walk with them, wander everywhere, a bunch of dog lovers come up to me and ask where I got them. Honestly, I didn’t think it was such a problem.

In total, we have three treat bags. Small. This one:

We generally carry it with us everywhere, it doesn’t take up much space, it has a carabiner to attach to clothes and strings so that the treat doesn’t spill out.

We use this one for daily walks:

Keys and a phone still fit there, your hands are free, you don’t need to carry anything else with you. A universal item.

But we carry this one (together with the previous one) with us for training:

What kind of bags do you use? Show me.

Quite an advertising post. At least they could disguise the advertising somehow.

Here's the non-promotional one: I had 2 treat bags purchased from pet stores. Both were inconvenient: the treat spilled, it was inconvenient to wash, one of the bags could fly off the belt. My instructor suggested a great option: magnesium bags from tourist stores. Very comfortably! I recommend!

Types of enclosures

The location of the enclosure affects the type of its construction. There are street and home buildings. The selection of a specific type of enclosure depends on the capabilities of the yard, the age of the pet and its breed, and climatic conditions.

Street

An outdoor dog enclosure is created as a full-fledged home for a four-legged friend. Such playpens have a number of functions:

  • dog protection;
  • delimitation of the territory intended for walking;
  • satisfying the pet's need for its own home;
  • increasing animal safety.

Enclosures are created in such a way that the pet can move freely around it even during heavy rainfall. For this purpose, a roof is created over the dog’s home. You should not install only a booth for your pet. The dog should not be limited to just one square meter of space during bad weather. Often the enclosure is equipped with various heating systems.

Not every dog owner will like the fact that the pet can roam freely around the property. If the animal is large, this circumstance may cause some inconvenience. This problem is easily solved by installing an aviary. The dog will be limited to a few square meters. At the same time, she needs to be walked regularly. In some cases, the dog's movements have to be limited. For example, it could be the arrival of guests.

The enclosure must be equipped with a walking area. It is a fenced area, not filled with things. The walk must be equipped in an open space. This will allow the dog to always be in the fresh air. It is necessary that the dog can go out for a walk whenever he wants. Thanks to the presence of a playpen, the dog is given greater freedom of movement and action. If you have a walk, training is easier. Simple instructions will help you figure out how to make an aviary.

A dog is a pet. She needs her own space. It is important that the dog knows that it has been entrusted with guarding a certain territory. Even if the pet is large, a properly constructed playpen will become a cage for it. The pet will feel as comfortable as possible in it. However, it is important to take into account certain standards for the construction of such structures.

If you are creating an enclosure for a large dog, it is better to make it from wood or metal profiles. Such materials can last quite a long time. They will withstand the pressure of a large animal if construction standards have been met.

Home shelters

In addition to outdoor enclosures, there are also indoor varieties. Such a dog enclosure is needed in several cases:

  • the pet has a litter;
  • indoor dog breed;
  • children or animals appeared in the house.

A home playpen can give a pregnant bitch a sense of security. She will be sure that the puppies are not in danger. When the puppies begin to frolic, the enclosure will be an excellent protective measure against damage to furniture and other items. Until the puppies are sold, the playpen will be an excellent place for them to stay.

Apartments often have playpens for small dogs. When the toilet in the enclosure is in one place, the pet becomes accustomed to order. He gets his own space. Thanks to the design of the enclosure, the dog knows where its bed and feeding place are. At the same time, she will not mark in different corners of the room.

An aviary is often installed if another pet is brought into the house. A dog that feels like the master in the apartment will begin to protest and get nervous. The same situation can arise when a child appears in the house. In some cases, a four-legged friend cannot respond adequately to this. In the enclosure, the pet adapts to its new residents.

Small playpens are simple fencing. Usually such enclosures are intended for puppies. Small pets will not be able to get out of the playpen.

The aviary cage is designed to limit the space of the animal not only from the side, but also from above. The dog will not be able to get out of such fences whenever he wants. Typically, such enclosures are installed for the permanent residence of small breed dogs.

Often, a home enclosure is made of metal, wood or plastic. These materials meet the requirements of strength and safety more than others. The designs of enclosures can be completely different. However, in each of them it is necessary to arrange a feeding place. Small dogs require a litter box inside the enclosure.

Principle of operation

Automatic feeders are devices that can make a person's life much easier. They are able to feed the animal on time during the absence of the owner.

Modern manufacturers have also taken care to equip their models of automatic feeders with compartments for medicines and water. This allows such devices to perform several functions at once. You don't have to worry about your pet during your departure. Feeders are often equipped with a special sensor. It allows you to control the amount of food in the bowl.

However, in this case the dog may eat too much. This is very harmful for large pets. Many dogs are unable to independently control the amount of food they consume. That is why it is better to opt for a design with a timer. Such devices operate several times a day. The norm is regulated by the owner.

A distinctive feature of such devices is the safety of food while it is in the container. Every breeder knows that dry food should not be left unpackaged. The food feeder keeps food fresh. The dog will always enjoy food.

There are a lot of electronic models that emit a certain signal when filling a bowl with food. Some designs allow you to record the owner's voice. In this case, the animal will not be in a state of loneliness when the owner is absent for a long time.

Sloppy pets

If your dog is messy when eating food, or is large in size, it is better to choose a sippy cup. In such a container, water will be retained even if it is accidentally touched. Water enters the dishes from a large container through a membrane.

The sippy cup is used even when the animal has long ears or a beard. Such dishes have one important advantage - they can be used during a road trip.

Special travel bowls have a special design. Outwardly they look like a bottle. They have a special device through which the animal drinks water. On long trips, such a capacity comes in handy.

Brief history and description of the breed

Alabai has a large and strong build. The dog was not specially bred by selective breeding. It has ancient roots, and its homeland is Central Asia. Over four thousand years, nature itself has created an excellent guard, which shepherds initially and still use to protect sheep and other livestock from predators.

The territory where the Alabai live is very huge. It extends from China to the Caspian Sea on one side and from Afghanistan to the Southern Urals on the other. The edges are distinguished by serious severity. Cruel natural selection has created a true fighter and protector for humans. This was facilitated by the fact that the dog’s family includes the fighting dogs of Mesopotamia, and one of its closest relatives is the Tibetan mastiff.

The word “alabai” is taken from ancient Turkic languages and means heterogeneous color with spots. But the breed has another name - Tobet. It came from Kazakhstan and literally means “dog on the top of the hill.” Harsh conditions strengthened the animal’s character and made him a fearless wolfhound.

Adults have a height at the withers of at least 70 cm. The weight of a male dog can reach eighty kilograms. A wide chest with strong limbs and strong bones make the breed tempting for widespread use in the protection of government facilities. Soviet dog handlers tried to do this in the thirties of the last century.

But the psychology of the breed turned out to be very complex and therefore training was considered difficult to implement. Moreover, not every dog has protective qualities. Today, alabai can still be found in the pastures of Central Asia. But for the most part he guards private houses.

What you need to build a booth

The first step is to draw up a drawing of the future structure. It should already be in your head. All that remains is to transfer the design onto paper, determining the dimensions. Here is an example of such a drawing.

Below is a list of materials needed for the job:

Before building a booth for an alabai, it is important to prepare the tree, remove all splinters and clean it. Then the pet will not get hurt. As for treatment with antiseptics and impregnations, this should only be done from the inside.

What clothes are needed

The Yorkshire Terrier is a compact and miniature dog. The thickness of its fat layer is not enough to effectively retain heat, so babies often suffer from viruses and colds.

Clothing for a Yorkshire Terrier is an essential item. It helps maintain the dog’s fragile health and makes its stay on the street comfortable. Clothes are:

  • walking type;
  • decorative;
  • home;
  • accessory.

Walking clothing should provide good protection from cold and rain, so you won’t be able to get by with just a sweater or overalls. Your Yorkie's wardrobe should be based on weather conditions and seasons:

  1. In winter, your dog needs warm overalls. Its lining should be made of silk or satin: fluff easily rolls off, which leads to the formation of tangles. After using overalls with a similar lining, you will have to carefully comb your Yorkie. A jacket in winter will not be so effective: the back of the animal will be left without protection, the suit will need to be supplemented with thick shorts or pants. In addition, in cold weather your Yorkie will need boots. This breed has very delicate paws that can easily get frostbite. It is recommended to start training to wear shoes at the age of six months. This will protect the dog from hypothermia and the caustic salt that is sprinkled on icy sidewalks.
  2. In spring and summer there is no need to wear clothing. Your Yorkie may overheat and suffer heatstroke. It is acceptable to dress him up in light, breathable things, but it is better to limit himself to accessories such as bows and headbands.
  3. In the fall, your dog will need a sweater and raincoat or a versatile bologna overall. Clothes during this period should be practical and well protected from moisture and dirt.

It wouldn't hurt to have a set of home clothes. It will come in handy when there is no heating for a long time or the temperature in the apartment is low. Yorkies are considered a heat-loving breed and do not tolerate cold and drafts well. If the owner sees that the pet is trying to hide in a blanket or blanket, it means that the temperature in the apartment is uncomfortable for him and the baby needs to be dressed in something.

Designer clothing for Yorkies is a very profitable and independent fashion segment. It allows you to emphasize the style of the owner and the dog and form a single ensemble. The line of summer outfits is particularly diverse: bright materials are perfect for creating cute, toy-like looks

In clothing of this type, the combination of beauty and comfort is very important. Even the most spectacular outfit should not restrict the animal’s movements

Clothes for puppies should be light, comfortable, and made of natural material. You can start learning to wear clothes from an early age, but until 6 months old Yorkies are actively growing, things will have to be changed too often.

Making a feeder

To make an automatic dog feeder you will need:

  • two water tanks with a volume of 20 l;
  • plastic pipe for sewerage with a diameter of 110 mm;
  • electronic timer and partition.

The bottom of one of the bottles is completely cut out. The second container is cut in half. The neck of both tanks is cut off. In a vertical container, in place of the neck, make a hole with a diameter of 100 mm so that the plastic pipe fits tightly to it.

A hole with a diameter of 110 mm is made in the second bottle and put on the pipe. Then a slot is made in the horizontal bottle so that the dog can stick its head into the feeder.

Taking measurements

The first step in any tailoring, no matter for people or dogs, is taking measurements. Without the exact size, there is no point in starting to fit patterns. Armed with a measuring tape (preferably with millimeter divisions on the scale - we are working with a tiny indoor dog) and take the basic measurements, according to which dress patterns for Yorkshire terriers are made, according to the following list:

Armed with a measuring tape (preferably with millimeter divisions on the scale - we have to work with a tiny indoor dog) and take the basic measurements, according to which dress patterns for Yorkshire terriers are made, according to the following list:

  • the distance between the withers (middle of the neck) and the base of the tail.
  • full neck circumference (you need to measure loosely so as not to squeeze your pet’s neck under any circumstances);
  • chest circumference (behind the elbows) and waist. Optionally, tail girth;
  • belly length from front to back paw (girls and boys will have some differences);
  • the length of the paws themselves;
  • girths of the muzzle and head (for hats and hoods).

When transferring ready-made patterns to fabric, the first time it is most practical to use old and disused jackets, jeans, T-shirts, sweaters, and other things.

When knitting clothes for a Yorkshire terrier with your own hands according to prepared patterns, some stages can be simplified, because knitted items stretch well and do not need to be carefully adjusted.

Let's sum it up

Now you know which enclosures are suitable for keeping Alabai. We looked at its dimensions, materials and features. And thanks to the visual video, you can do everything quickly with your own hands. In addition, we saw what a booth for an alabai should be like: dimensions, material, features. Now we can say that your pet will be completely satisfied with its new home. And if he lived in the house before, then it will become much easier for you too. However, the presence of an enclosure does not mean that you do not need to walk your shepherd dog and let it go outside. Without such outings, the dog will feel bad. Otherwise, an enclosure and a booth for the Alabai will make your life easier.
