Barking Heads dog food: reviews and composition analysis

Barking Heads Dog Food Review

Barking Heads dry dog food is produced in the UK by Pet Food UK Ltd.
Official website - (in English), there you can find reliable data on the composition of the entire line of feeds, recommended feeding rates, etc. This food belongs to the super premium class. The same manufacturer produces Meowing Heads and AATU cat foods.

Barking Heads food composition

Let's look at the composition of Barking Heads food using the example of the Adult, Doggylicious Duck blended with Sweet potato, Peas & Herbs option (for adult dogs, with duck and sweet potato).

On the left is information about the composition of the food packaging. On the right is the translation.

The sources of protein in the feed are: duck 41%, dried duck 15%. There are no other very protein-rich ingredients, so you can be sure that the bulk of the 23% protein indicated in the analysis is of animal origin (richer in amino acid composition and better digestible than plant proteins).

The original says "Duck" and "Dried Duck", that is, "duck" and "dehydrated duck". It is not clear whether these ingredients consist only of meat or include other parts of the duck (for example, if the meat is mechanically separated, it may include some fat, skin, tendons, connective tissue, bone mass).

Sweet potatoes, peas, alfalfa are sources of carbohydrates. Non-grain-free formulas also use rice, barley, and oats as a source of carbohydrates. Salmon oil and duck fat are good sources of fats and fatty acids. Seaweed is rich in iodine and many vitamins and minerals.

The rest of the composition consists of various useful additives: glucosamine, methylsulfonylmethane, chondroitin sulfate - necessary for cartilage tissue and joints (which is especially important for large breed dogs); a mixture of herbs - a source of fiber, various useful substances, as well as a flavoring additive; minerals - supplement of minerals.

It should be noted that the preservatives used are not indicated in the composition, but on the official website it is written (and on the packaging too) that there are no artificial preservatives, flavors or dyes in the food.

Customer Reviews

Masha writes:

Hello. Last year I got a pug =) At first I fed him natural food, but not for long. Then we spent a long time selecting dry food, having tried Grandorf, Acana, Trainer, Barking Heads. We stopped at the last one.

For the first time, the food attracted attention by the appearance of the packaging, I began to choose something without chicken, and settled on salmon with sweet potato. It turned out that the food had a very good composition, a lot of protein. I took a 2 kg package, the price was 1358 rubles.

The puppy liked the food when, during the transfer process, I mixed it with the old one - I chose granules of the new one. It's been over a month since I've been eating it on a regular basis. The stool is formed and without a pungent odor, there is no allergy. I definitely recommend Barking Heads food.

I would like to share a review of Barking Heads dry food with lamb for dogs with problem coats. I took it as a replacement for one that my dog stopped eating. The ingredients are good - freshly cooked lamb 26%, dried lamb 20%, brown rice, sweet potatoes, etc. In general, this food is considered holistic.

The food granules are small, great for small dogs. Not greasy, don't crumble. My Yorkie eats well, doesn’t refuse like the Canadian GO. Barking Heads, by the way, are British-made. The smell of the food is quite pleasant.

Packaging 1.5 kg with zip lock, convenient. The price is also reasonable. I’m also pleased with the large assortment of flavors, there’s plenty to choose from, we’ll try others later. Overall, I am happy with the food and so is the dog.

Oksana writes:

Hi all! We switched to dry food from natural food after the dog started having problems with the gastrointestinal tract. We started with Hills Prescription Diet, but problems persisted, so we decided to try foods with higher nutritional value.

First there was Grandorf, then Now, Acana, now Barking Heads. The dog ate them all with great pleasure, but the digestive system reacted differently to each. So far there have been no negative reactions to Barking Heads, no stomach grumbling, no vomiting.

A bag weighing 12 kg is enough for a month. The cost is 6,200 rubles, but with discounts and bonuses it comes out cheaper. The only negative is that the big bear does not have a clasp, so you have to pour the food into an airtight container.

Barking Heads dog food - reviews

Review of Barking Heads dog food, writes Elena. We have a 3-year-old Yorkie; he has had food allergies almost since childhood. We tried several foods, grain-free Barking Heads was the best choice and settled on that. The dog eats with pleasure, his health is fine (tests are also good), the price suits him. In general, we are satisfied, if you also have a dog with food allergies, I recommend this food.

Review of Barking Heads food, writes Tatyana. We ate BH with turkey for a couple of months, everything was great. Then I wanted to try it with chicken - as a result, at first the stool became softer, then it completely turned into diarrhea. Now we are eating rice and boiled beef to recover, and in a couple of days we will try to return to food with turkey.

Review of Barking Heads dog food, writes Ekaterina. We transferred our dog to Barking Heads when he was 7 months old; the store offered only chicken for puppies, so we immediately started eating fish for adults. I ate and now eat a little more than the norm, but there are no negative consequences, I read that the norm is just an average value and less/more than the norm is normal.

Barking Heads

Comrades, help plzzzz!

Once again I was unlucky (probably like many others)…

Background…

The dog is allergic, now 7 years old. At 1.5 years old, on the advice of a doctor, he was switched from natural food to medicinal dry food (problems with the gastrointestinal tract). After which the painful search for “their” food began. Hurray, we found... Canidae (then they also came up with lamb and 4 types of meat, everything was super). Of course, we weren’t happy for long, 1.5 years later (after the crisis) the food disappeared... again the search... we tried Holistic Blend (after 1 bag we realized that it was not ours), Grandorf seemed to work at first, I felt better on it, but not even six months passed and the dog “bloomed” again, on the advice we switched to fish food. For a year and a half we fed Pronature Holistic, which, with salmon and brown rice, seemed to calm down, the condition was pleasing, but gradually I began to notice that again the condition of the skin and coat was not ice and as a result there was a rapid “blooming” again.. searching again.. ordered a bag Many people seem to like Magnusson and there are few ingredients in the composition, but there was no improvement.

And so I decided to order Barking Heads grain-free fish - delicious... and here it seems like happiness!!!! The food suited him very well, the fur, ears, eyes, output all seemed perfect. I even stopped shedding to the point of being bald and forgot what the smell of skin and fur was, well, this year I just couldn’t get enough of the condition of the dog on this food….

But that was not the case, in August the food disappeared... I dug through all the stores, with grief I found the last 2 bags, with hope and faith in the words of official representatives that rebranding was underway and the food would definitely appear at the end of September...

my supplies are coming to an end, I opened the last bag, began to place an order, with confidence that deliveries had resumed, there was generally no food…. and when it will be no one can say((((((

I asked Petshop and another store.

Question 1. Does anyone know information about the food, is it worth waiting for it at all??

And from this follows question 2: what food should you pay attention to, my head is spinning, but I don’t know what can replace BH... I was considering AATU, it seems to be the same manufacturer as BH, but it has a protein content with salmon which is 31, with fish and crustaceans 30..., and fat 17-19 is too much ((((

GO and NOW are holistic, long compositions are scary, and I don’t understand which one is better... but for now these options are probably a last resort.

I'm leaning towards these for now

Husse Ocean Care 24/14

Looking towards WOLFSBLUT Alaska Salmon (25/15)

WOLFSBLUT Wild Pacific (28/17)

Dry dog food “Wild Ocean” – with salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, shrimp, haddock and potatoes

This dry food was developed specifically for dogs with allergic reactions.

In general, maybe someone is faced with the problem of replacing BH Fish-yummy food, what options were considered and what food they switched to.

My brain is racing, help me, I’m afraid to change something again, because the price of a mistake results in problems for more than one month (((
