How to properly draw up a contract for breeding dogs

A dog breeding agreement is an agreement between individuals aimed at mating dogs for the purpose of producing offspring. Dogs that have a certificate of origin from the RKF, FCI, AKC, KC, CKC are allowed for breeding.

Dogs that have a conformation rating of at least “very good”, obtained at an official certificated exhibition of the RKF (the exhibition published in the RKF exhibition calendar is considered official) or the FCI International Exhibition, are allowed for breeding use. Owners of breeding dogs must submit the original diploma once. In exceptional cases (injury), a description of the breed judge on a special form is required with a conclusion that the dog meets the breed standard and a rating of at least “very good”. The judge is obliged to make sure that the dog has a mark (and, if available, a microchip). Puppies born from such sires are registered with the VERK from the island.

How many times, and to what age, to breed pets, each owner decides for himself (such questions are often discussed on the Internet on forums with topics like “breeding dogs,” etc.). But experts usually recommend mating bitches for 5 years after the first mating (not every heat, but every other one); further matings can affect the health of the animals. Males can be mated for 10 years.

  • To reproduce healthy offspring, the bitch needs to find a healthy and strong partner of the same breed.
  • A few months before mating, it is necessary to introduce vitamins and mineral complexes into the dog’s diet. You need to feed your pet healthy, balanced food.
  • One and a half to two months before adoption, both the bitch and the male must be shown to the veterinarian. The doctor must examine animals for infections and diseases and, if necessary, prescribe preventive vaccinations.
  • A month before mating, it is recommended to treat dogs for fleas and deworm them.
  • On the eve of mating, animals should not be overfed or tired with long walks.
  • To make mating easier, owners of large and small dogs can trim the long hair that grows near the animal's genitals. The genital organs themselves, despite the existing discharge, must be clean before the important procedure.
  • Shortly before mating, dogs should empty their intestines and bladder.

The dog breeding agreement contains the entire list of conditions for breeding.

How to prepare a bitch for breeding?

Puberty in dogs occurs between 8 and 10 months. At this time, the bitch goes into her first heat. The owner who plans to further prepare the animal for mating should from now on keep a diary, on the pages of which data regarding discharge, the condition of the “loop”, behavioral changes, appetite, and health of the dog will be recorded. The diary should describe the animal’s condition for several days before the discharge begins. This will help determine the start of the next heat.

Breeding dogs at an excessively early age is not recommended, since this process can negatively affect the health, psyche, and nervous system of pets. It is considered optimal to mate dogs over two years of age. The individual physiological characteristics of each dog play a large role in this issue. According to experienced dog handlers, the signal that an animal is ready for mating is the third heat. Based on detailed records of the first and second estrus, you can prepare your dog for mating.

Carrying out a comprehensive bacteriological analysis

In the period of 1.5 months preceding the onset of estrus, it is necessary to contact a veterinary clinic for a comprehensive bacteriological analysis to identify staphylococcus, herpes virus, streptococcus, and other anaerobic infections. If an infection is detected based on the results of the analysis, the owner will be able to treat the pet in a timely manner to protect future offspring. Certificates with the results of this analysis are submitted by the owners of the bitch and the dog.

Treatment for skin parasites

1 month before estrus, a comprehensive preventive treatment of the animal against skin parasites (fleas, lice, subcutaneous mites) is carried out. For this purpose, use appropriate sprays and shampoos that do not contain toxic substances.

Deworming course

Several days after the preventive treatment of the pet, a course of deworming will be required. The most effective are drugs with a wide spectrum of action; prescription and dosage calculation are the prerogatives of the veterinarian.

Vaccination course

7 days after the deworming procedure, a course of vaccinations is recommended. The use of polyvalent vaccines that counteract the infection of animals with the most common infections has proven itself.

Carrying out the above measures before the onset of estrus helps ensure the health of the dog at the time of mating. In addition, you need to pay attention to the physiology of the individual. A bitch that is too thin or overfed, lethargic, and looks sickly can subsequently have a difficult pregnancy and give birth to weak offspring.

Special conditions for repeated matings

Owners know that dogs need to be re-mated if necessary. However, not everyone is familiar with the conditions and obligations that animal owners must fulfill. Therefore, let’s look in more detail at what people who have entered into a dog breeding agreement should know:

According to the owner’s point of view, the mating turned out to be “empty”, so the owner of the dog has the right to independently take the bitch to the veterinarian for examination. When, after mating, the bitch turns out to be empty, its owner must carry out the following actions for his finances:

  • within 2.5 months after mating, carry out a medical examination of the bitch and present the dog to the owner;
  • the certificate must be confirmed by the doctor’s stamp and signature;
  • Before the secondary mating, you should definitely do smear tests on the bitch in order to establish the fact that she is completely ready for mating. This confirmation must be shown to the owner of the dog;
  • when after the 2nd mating the bitch remains empty, a medical examination should be performed again and therapy should be performed.

The owner of a male dog must:

  1. after the owner of the bitch presents an official medical decision about the female’s perfect health for childbirth, it is necessary to return the money to the breeders of the animal or breed again between the same dogs;
  2. when the female has received this treatment and there are certain papers available that confirm this with a signature and a veterinarian’s stamp. Only in this case, it is possible to carry out mating without additional funds for free.

A secondary mating is not carried out and the advance payment is not returned in the event that the owner of the bitch categorically refuses to present the above papers to the owner of the dog.

What indicates a dog's readiness for mating?

The planned mating of dogs takes place 12 - 15 from the beginning of estrus. The condition of her “loop” indicates the bitch’s readiness for mating. The dimensions of the “loop” are increased, it is soft to the touch. There is a presence of discharge with a yellow-pink tint. The bitch tries to actively flirt with the males, takes the appropriate pose, and moves her tail while touching the “loop”.

The listed factors indicate the beginning of the animal’s ovulation period and readiness for mating. As a rule, the duration of ovulation is 3 - 5 days. These dog breeding days are considered the most productive.

It is not advisable to breed an animal on the first day of ovulation due to the risk of producing fewer puppies. Also, mating on this day may cause pregnancy to not occur. To avoid such troubles, you can conduct a progesterone test in dogs for mating, which allows you to accurately determine the most suitable day of mating.

Please note that some dogs may have minimal or no discharge during estrus. Sometimes there is insufficient brightness of the color of the discharge. Often the “loop” of the animal remains rigid and does not change in size. There may also be increased aggression from the dog towards the “groom”. In such cases, the time of mating of dogs is determined based on the entries in the diary made by the owner.

On the day when mating is scheduled, feeding the bitch is not recommended. The best option is to plan mating in the morning, when the bitch's stomach is empty and the animal has had time to rest during the night. Thanks to morning exercise and a short walk, the dog perks up and empties its intestines. Experienced dog handlers are against the bitch receiving any physical activity at this time.

I, AS THE OWNER OF BOTH BITCHES AND MALES, offer these CONDITIONS for MATING MALES OF THE “OLVAL DENIS” KENNEL!
I CONSIDER THIS IN CONSCIENCE. Because I myself am a breeding instructor, owner of males and females, deliver babies and raise puppies! I understand both male and female owners. BUT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A CONSCIENCE. FINANCIAL PAYMENTS FOR MATING ARE NOT REGULATED BY THE RKF, SO CONCLUSION OF AN AGREEMENT ALLOWS THE MALE OWNER TO RECEIVE PAYMENT FOR THE SERVICE FROM THE BITCH OWNER EVEN IF THE LATTER REFUSES TO PERFORM HIS DUTIES. THE AGREEMENT IS ENDOWED WITH LEGAL FORCE AND ITS DRAFTING ALLOWS YOU TO AVOID CONFLICT SITUATIONS AND ALSO SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS OF DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN COURT. THEREFORE, IN ADDITION TO THE MATCHING ACT, IT IS APPROPRIATE TO CONCLUSION A MATING PAYMENT AGREEMENT WITH A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE MATING CONDITIONS AND ITS PAYMENT. It is not necessary to conclude a Mating Agreement, but if we are talking about serious breeding, then concluding an Agreement is a necessity. OTHERWISE, CONFLICTS ARISE OVER PAYMENT VERY OFTEN.

ACCORDING TO THE BREEDING REGULATIONS OF THE RKF, THE OWNER OF A MALE IS OBLIGATED TO TRANSFER TO THE OWNER OF THE BITCH THE FULL PACKAGE OF DOCUMENTS OF THE MALE AT THE TIME OF MATING, FOR REGISTRATION OF THE LITTER, REGARDLESS OF THE MATING PAYMENT.

What are the requirements for the mating location?

When solving the problem of what is needed to breed dogs, you should initially decide on the choice of territory for this process. The owners of four-legged pets will not go wrong if they prepare the mating site in advance.

It is considered more correct for the “bride” to visit the “groom”, since otherwise a male dog that finds itself in an unfamiliar place may show uncertainty, be nervous, and refuse to mate. This is of particular importance when dogs are mated for the first time or the “bride” behaves too aggressively, her smell is weak and not attractive enough for the “groom”.

The choice of mating location is made taking into account the size of the animals. Pets belonging to small and medium breeds can be provided with a spacious room.

For mating of large individuals, it is advisable to allocate an outdoor fenced area so that the partners have a certain amount of space.

Experienced dog handlers who know how dogs are mated strongly advise giving preference to a secluded place where the animals will not be disturbed by passers-by or other dogs. The covering of the mating area should be non-slip. If the meeting of the “groom” with the “bride” takes place indoors, linoleum or parquet flooring should be covered with carpet or carpet. In winter, the slippery icy ground outside is sprinkled with sand.

Pedigree

This document allows you to participate in exhibitions and engage in breeding work. To obtain it, you need to contact a canine organization within the RKF. This can be done when the puppy is six months old, but no later than 15 months - it is until this period that the puppy metric is valid. You can issue a document later only if it was lost or the dog has a different owner.

To obtain a document, you need an application from the owner and a puppy certificate. By this time, the breeder must submit a general litter card to the RKF.

The pedigree contains the same data as the metric. Additionally, the working and exhibition titles of the ancestors are indicated. If the animal is microchipped, the document must also contain the barcode of the chip.

possible on our website.

The dog's pedigree can be:

  • Internal . Valid within the country, therefore does not give the right to participate in international exhibitions.
  • Export . Provides the right to participate in international exhibitions. You can get it by exchanging it for an internal pedigree.

A complete pedigree must have all fields filled in. If there are no ancestors in any column, the document is considered incomplete.

Dating procedure

The first to visit the mating place is the “lady”, who gets the opportunity to get acquainted with the surrounding space for 5-10 minutes, then the “gentleman” is released to her. An experienced dog will initially prefer to spend a little time courting a bitch.

The introduction of pets should take place under the supervision of their owners. Often you may need help when breeding dogs, especially when the dog is young and does not have the proper experience. In such cases, he may need to be “adjusted”, placed in the desired position. An overexcited dog is capable of performing incorrect mountings. To correct the situation, the owner should take his four-legged friend out and give him time to calm down a little.

The behavior of experienced male dogs may be different. Someone tries to growl at the “lady”, bite her lightly, and show his dominance. Quite often, “grooms” demonstrate polite behavior, try to flirt, lick the “noose” and “ears” of their “brides”. Often the behavior of an experienced male dog changes radically. This means that the owner will have to control his pet at all times.

In most cases, the reaction of an experienced bitch to a dog is calm. The “lady” is not against the advances of the “gentleman”. After a short game, the bitch takes a stance and withdraws her tail. Her pelvis is located in front of the male's front legs. The animal periodically tilts its head to the side, without looking at the partner, and may flatten its ears.

A young bitch is capable of showing fear, tucking her tail, and falling on her paws. If this is the first mating of dogs, the “bride” often snaps, and sometimes even tries to rush at the “groom”. This behavior is explained not only by youth and inexperience, but also by an error in calculating the day of mating. Another reason is the presence of abnormalities in the animal’s nervous system. The adequate reaction of the bitch, her acceptance of her partner’s advances, the absence of fear and aggression indicate the correct calculation of the time of mating, and the absence of unwanted physiological and nervous disorders in the individual.

Official part

There is a regulatory framework that must be followed by owners of purebred dogs. The contract form, as well as the RKF mating certificate form, are available on the official cynological websites.

First of all, the contract is filled out. A sample dog breeding agreement is available on the clubs' websites. There you can also find out what documents are needed to register a mating. Here's what it looks like:

The algorithm for mating purebred dogs (its official part) is quite complex, since before mating it is necessary to identify the male and female and check their compliance with the pedigrees declared earlier. This can be done with the help of a special mark that confirms compliance with the Certificate of Origin of the animal. Mating is possible only after identification. Well, after the dogs have mated, their owners, in the presence of an instructor (if necessary), sign the document. Moreover, the document form must be the same as the sample approved by the RKF. These conditions must be met, otherwise problems will arise with the registration of puppies.

It is necessary to sign 3 copies of the act, two of which are received by the dog owners, and one is intended for registering the litter in the RKF.

That is, such a seemingly simple process as mating dogs is not so simple, especially from an official point of view. After all, not everyone knows what documents need to be completed. But, if all formalities are followed and documents are completed, then future offspring will not have any problems confirming their impeccable pedigree and thoroughbred.

Mating procedure

It is advisable to treat the “loop” of a bitch demonstrating readiness by taking a stance with baby cream or Vaseline. The owner should stand in front of the pet, holding it tightly by the collar. The owner of a male dog needs to carefully hold the female dog to the side in the abdominal area, directing her “loop” towards the male’s genitals during mounting.

The male tries to jump on the bitch, grasping it with his front paws, placing his hind limbs on the surface of the floor (ground). When making the first cages, the male tries to find the entrance to the “loop”, selects the best position, and the female tries to adapt to him.

Having assumed a comfortable position, the “groom” begins thrusting with a gradual increase in force in order to penetrate inside the “loop.” After inserting the penis into the vagina, the muscles of the vulva contract, due to which the male’s penis is compressed. This moment means a lock in dogs during mating, during which sperm quickly move into the uterus.

The onset of ejaculation may take only 5 minutes from the start of mounting, but the duration of the “lock” can be significantly delayed (10 - 60 minutes). Separating pets on your own is not recommended. You also need to prevent the “lady” from breaking out of the “gentleman’s embrace” ahead of time.

Sometimes there is a discrepancy in the size and structure of the genital organs of animals, which is why getting in and crossing can be problematic. To help their four-legged pets, the owners need to firmly press the dog, lift the dog, and lift the bitch’s pelvis. It is very important not to touch the genitals of animals.

When sexual intercourse is over, it is advisable not to give the bitch the opportunity to sit down or lie on her stomach. It will be very good if she doesn’t go to the toilet during the first few hours. At the end of mating, pets should be given rest and offered fresh drink. The feeding procedure can be carried out after two hours. The dog’s lethargic behavior after mating is often noted, so games and physical activity are not encouraged at this moment.

In the period after mating, the discharge from the bitch’s “loop” may stop altogether or may continue for some time and then disappear (this depends on the physiology of the dog).

What are the symptoms of a pregnant bitch?

Detection of an animal’s pregnancy after mating occurs only on days 28–30. This is evidenced by the swelling of the “loop,” a rounded tummy, and swollen nipples. An ultrasound examination is considered appropriate at 4-5 weeks after mating. You can read more about pregnancy symptoms in dogs here.

Agreement, act of mating dogs

In order to settle financial claims against each other, the owners of a dog or a bitch will need to draw up a dog mating agreement - RKF, which is drawn up and signed in advance.

This document stipulates: how much it costs to breed dogs, all the conditions are prescribed to resolve disputes between animal owners. The required sample of a dog mating agreement, as well as a dog mating act - RKF form can be obtained from the cynological society where the animals are registered. After the mating procedure, a dog mating certificate is drawn up - RKF, which certifies the event that occurred.

Having the information: what does mating dogs mean, the owners will be able to properly organize this process, surrounding their four-legged pets with attention and care. This will be the key to maintaining the health of animals and obtaining strong, healthy litters. Read the article: How long does a dog’s pregnancy last and how does it progress day by day?

What is the contract?

A mating agreement is an agreement between the parties (owners of animals allowed for breeding according to certain rules) on mating their dogs for the purpose of participating in breeding work and selling puppies. By agreement:

  • one party (the owner of the bitch) pays the second (the owner of the dog)
  • remuneration in kind (a puppy born from mating, at the first or second choice of the male owner - a maintenance puppy)
  • or in monetary terms (the average cost of a puppy of this breed). The amount is indicated in full in numbers and in words.

The RKF agreements were not envisaged. Until 2011, conditions, price and other nuances were prescribed in the mating act. Since 2011, these points have been excluded from the form of the act. This means that issues of payment and other conditions, as well as the resolution of related disputes, are completely transferred to the regulation of the owners of the dog and the bitch. At the same time, the RKF does not exercise control over the fulfillment of the conditions. All disputes arising in the course of resolving the mating of dogs and related issues are resolved as follows:

  • civil dispute by filing a claim with a magistrate (if the price for mating is less than 50 thousand rubles);
  • in federal court (if the price is higher than the specified amount). There is a link to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation directly in the RKF Regulations on breeding.

An official sample agreement has not been developed to date. Therefore, breeders can take a civil contract for the provision of services as a basis, since it contains sections on the subject (mating), conditions of performance (mating conditions) and remuneration (payment to the owner of the dog). The Civil Code allows entering into transactions not only under the articles provided for in the text of the regulatory legal act, but also according to the understanding of the contracting parties, if the conditions do not contradict the law.

Conditions for the validity of the contract

Like any transaction, this agreement implies the legal capacity of the parties. This means that only adults who fully understand the meaning of the actions expected of them can enter into it. In addition, only the owner of the animal or his representative by proxy can be a party. Even if the dog was provided for breeding by the owner’s spouse or other family member, this is not considered legal. All pets are classified as property by civil law, and only the owner or his representative can dispose of them. Therefore, only the owners listed as owners in the dogs' pedigrees are parties.

And what after?

After the mating has been successful, a report is drawn up (a sample RKF form can be downloaded from us). If the owner of the bitch has certain doubts about the success of the process, he, according to the contract, can insist on a test mating. True, the control “meeting” can be held no earlier than a day after the first mating. Information about the control mating is also included in the mating certificate of RKF dogs.

The signing of the RKF mating act is also carried out by both parties and, as a rule, the calculation is carried out after the documents are drawn up in accordance with all standards.

By the way, if a refusal occurred the day before, then this information is also indicated in the RKF act.

If the result is negative, that is, there are no puppies, then the owner of the bitch has the right to request a second mating with the same male (if the conditions are specified in the contract).

The data, where all the information is indicated and all the necessary records are made, must be submitted to the kennel club. By the way, you need to submit mating papers no later than 10 days from the moment of mating (primary or control). If the dog is not a member of the club, that is, the owner has not registered his pet, then this must be done in advance. These are the conditions of the club, and this is the only way to get a referral for mating and choose a worthy “groom”. By the way, the club staff, as well as experienced breeders, will help you choose the ideal pair for your pet, create conditions for “love,” and thereby ensure future offspring with an impeccable pedigree.

But, you need to remember that not only the selection of a male dog must be done very carefully, but also the filling out of documents. After all, even a minor mistake can cost future puppies their “passports.”
