Mixed Chihuahuas - a mixture of Chihuahuas with different breeds, what they look like, behavior and character traits

The Chiweenie is an energetic, loyal and playful dog, with a lively character and cheerful disposition.

They are classified as hybrid breeds, which are also called designer breeds. They were created by crossing a purebred first generation, or F1, Chihuahua with a purebred F1 dachshund. Reputable breeders avoid intergenerational crossbreeding, whether that means crossing a Chiweenie with one of the F1 breeds or crossing them with other Chiweenies. This is primarily due to the fact that F1 crossbreeds tend to be the healthiest, reports PetGuide.com.

This is a relatively new breed, so there are no standards yet for the size and appearance of the Chiweenie. Like their parent breeds, Chiweenies tend to be small. According to DogTime, adult dogs weigh between 2 and 5 kg and are 15 to 25 cm tall at the withers, but can be smaller or larger.

Like their parents (Chihuahuas and Dachshunds), Chiwinies are most often short-haired, but can also be long-haired. The color of the Chiweenie is also similar to that of the parent breeds. The most common colors are fawn, brown, black and white. Representatives of this designer breed can also be multi-colored.

The Chiweenie's body is usually shorter and sturdier than that of the Dachshund, and the tail is usually long and thin. Ears can be large, straight and triangular, like those of a Chihuahua, or long and floppy, like those of a Dachshund. They can also represent something between the first and second. The Chiweenie's muzzle is usually longer and narrower than that of the Chihuahua, but shorter than that of the Dachshund.

Active weight loss

Thus, the mission to rescue Chiweenie began. They say that a name is a sign, and the owner decided to rename the pet, calling her Vera. This nickname contained great hopes that the goal would be achieved.

First of all, Nioaka decided to put her pet on a diet. The portions began to shrink, and at first Vera was very nervous, because she was hungry and wasn’t full at all. And yet the owner did not give in if the dog asked for another piece, but continued to reduce the amount of food.

How to distinguish a Chihuahua puppy from a crossbreed?

In order not to confuse a purebred dog with a mixed breed, you need to pay attention to the dog’s appearance. A purebred dog has the following characteristics:

  • clear stop;
  • flattened muzzle;
  • the eyes are black, convex, and not too close to each other;
  • the upper incisors overlap the lower ones;
  • the lower canines are located between the incisors and the upper canines;
  • the back is short and level;
  • muscles are poorly developed;
  • tail straight;
  • paws are small;
  • limbs are slender.

This dog needs help

When Chiweenie ended up at the shelter, the volunteers could not remain indifferent when they saw the dachshund: a “bun” was sitting in front of them. The round dog, like a ball, was breathing with difficulty. When she got up and walked, the volunteers experienced a second shock: Chiweenie was rolling from side to side, barely moving her paws. It was felt that every movement was not easy for her.

Realizing that such an animal needed support and attention, volunteers began to look for a person who could help Chiweenie and take her under their wing. Soon the shelter employee turned to her friend named Nioaka with the words: “This dog needs your help!”

When the woman agreed to take the dog in for foster care and saw it for the first time, she immediately had a thought: who could feed an animal like that? After all, this is not at all a manifestation of love for the pet, but on the contrary – complete indifference to her health.

Bulmiatians

Instead of getting 101 Dalmatians, consider mixing a Dalmatian with a Bulldog to create a Bullmatian. These hybrids have unique, beautiful colors and bold personalities. Bullmatians love attention, are great with other pets, and, accordingly, make new friends very quickly.

At first, this breed may not trust strangers due to their stubbornness. But once they know and trust their owner, he will never be bored again.

Dachshund in great shape

As Vera lost weight, she became more and more active. If at first the temporary owner was forced to carry her in her arms, then soon the dog herself began to come running for training, deftly working with her paws!

It was a very joyful moment when Vera was able to crawl through the narrow animal door, and also climbed up the steps on her own. This was a real victory for the plump four-legged woman, who gradually gained normal weight for a dachshund.

Care ✂️

The Chiweenie usually has a very short coat that does not require much grooming. You can simply brush it once a week to get rid of loose and dead hairs.

However, many Chiweenies have floppy ears, so you will need to be especially careful to make sure they don't get ear infections. Clean them with a damp cloth once or twice a week and make sure to keep the inside of their ears dry at all times.

Also, trim your dog's nails and brush his teeth regularly.

History of the origin of the breed

The first Chiweenie puppies were the result of an unintentional crossbreeding, as breeders did not specifically breed Dachshunds and Chihuahuas until the late 1990s. Although the origins of this designer breed are not known for certain, crossbreeding most likely began in North America. This was done to create a dog that looked like a purebred dachshund but did not have the characteristic back problems. The crossbreed turned out to be so attractive and charming that it quickly became popular. Because the Chiweenie is a mixed breed, it is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but it is recognized by several designer dog clubs.
