Miniature Bull Terrier: raising a proud pet in the house

The Bull Terrier is considered an aggressive dog, but this is far from true. Many breeders appreciated the breed. They are playful and loyal animals that get along well with children. The owner, in turn, needs to provide the pet with competent care and regularly conduct training classes. You also need to take a responsible approach to your diet, as poor nutrition can cause health problems. Despite the fact that the breed is unpretentious in food, it is still important to know what to feed the Bull Terrier so that the dog feels good and is active.

It contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and amino acids in a balanced state. When choosing, pay attention to the composition. The product must contain fats of animal and plant origin and natural ingredients. This is what dogs should receive to be healthy and cheerful.

Feeding

The bull terrier breed differs in that by its nature it is more active, larger, with a weighty skeletal structure, weighty muscle mass; for this dog, select dry concentrates with components such as B vitamins, fiber, and natural supplements.

The most successful food for this breed will be those where the package says that it contains at least 40% natural additives and vitamins, 50-60% meat, fish or poultry, because this breed is prone to obesity. A good food composition that your pet will like and will fill it with a supply of vitality and energy is raw, dehydrated lamb/chicken/poultry meat (the percentage should be indicated on the package indicating how much of the product is present), vegetables (cabbage, carrots, pumpkin), cartilage , freeze-dried by-products, flowers, roots of medicinal plants for health, vitamins (phosphorus, copper, calcium, others).

Veterinary research suggests that the healthiest dry foods come with the sign of a natural preservation system on the packaging.

This breed has a strong build and needs a lot of protein from childhood to form healthy muscles. An excess of calories will be harmful to the dog, causing the development of obesity and health problems. It is difficult to maintain balance on a natural diet, so veterinarians advise choosing ready-made food.

The class of the product should be premium or super-premium; for gastrointestinal diseases, specialists recommend holistic class food, which is easily digestible by 75-95%. The basis of any ready-made food is dietary meat, turkey, lamb, rabbit, chicken and its by-products.

They provide from 30% to 50% of the protein in the product. It is supplemented with vegetables, fish oil, eggs, and seafood. Shellfish and sea cucumber extract are essential for healthy joints; fiber in vegetables, plant fibers and seeds improves the functioning of the digestive system and improves immunity. Brewer's yeast and flax seeds improve the condition of the animal's coat.

Upbringing

To ensure that an adult dog does not pose any threat to the owner and others, he needs proper training and education from childhood. The owner must adhere to certain rules in relation to the pet. To any manifestation of aggression from a puppy, you must immediately show your dissatisfaction.

Under no circumstances should you indulge his whims; always be firm and consistent in your decisions. During training, reward your puppy with treats for following commands. But don't scold him if the command was not executed.

Don't force your puppy to exercise when he's tired. In order for the dog to be safe for society, the owner must have calmness, perseverance and balance.

  • cardiovascular diseases (more common in mini-bull terriers),

  • dislocation of the kneecap and elbow joint,
  • lethal acrodermatitis.

Bull Terriers may also have other diseases: mastocytoma (cell cancer), eversion of the eyelid (ectropion), entropion (entropion). The White Bull Terrier often suffers from skin diseases. But allergic reactions are more often seasonal in nature and manifest themselves in the form of spots, rashes, and hair loss.

Vaccinations, anti-worming treatments

The vaccination scheme for bull terriers is classic. Only healthy puppies are vaccinated. Before vaccination, you need to get rid of worms (10 days before vaccination). Then deworming is carried out every 4-5 months. The first vaccination is given to 2-month-old puppies. Revaccination is usually carried out on day 21. It is better to entrust the choice of timing to the veterinarian. Vaccination and revaccination are always done with the vaccine from the same manufacturer. These 2 high-quality products fully meet your pet's need for a healthy and balanced diet. Those who give these brands of food to animals are happy and do not want to look for new food.

Prices

How much does a bull terrier cost? This question worries everyone who has ever thought about owning this unique breed. The price of puppies depends on the class of the dog.

  • Pet-class puppies, which will never take part in exhibitions, but will be the most devoted pets, cost up to 40 thousand rubles.
  • Brad-class puppies have a price tag from 40 to 60 thousand rubles.
  • The most expensive puppies are, of course, representatives of the show class. Future exhibition champions and successors of the family cost more than 60 thousand rubles.

Need for vitamins

Medium-sized dogs cover many breeds, from basset hounds to huskies. By their nature, they can be characterized by low mobility or be active. Pets of these species need vitamins in addition to their diet.

The daily need for supplements is determined by gender and age characteristics. It depends on the weight, breed, physical development, air temperature during maintenance. Organic substances are needed for normal growth and development, viable offspring, and good health. When starting to introduce elements into the diet, take into account the weight of the pet.

It is important to worry about the intake of vitamins into the body of animals when eating natural food or when consuming economy-class feed. To improve your pet's health, you will need prolonged courses of supplements once a month. Medium breed dogs kept on dry food should take a vitamin course at least once every six months. For aging animals, it is enough to take the course once a year, provided they are fed with food and natural food.

Pet health items:

  1. Retinoids, including: vitamin A, vitamin A2, retinol and retinoic acid. Needed to reproduce healthy offspring. Without these vitamins, animals do not develop normal bone tissue, cartilage, and epithelium. Retinal is involved in the functioning of the visual organs. The element is needed to produce light-sensitive pigments for vision in the dark. When it is deficient, dogs develop “night blindness.”
  2. Thiamine (B1). A necessary element for the normal functioning of the nervous system. With a sufficient level of the substance, the pet will be balanced and calm. Supplements with it are needed for pets that are severely exhausted or stressed. A lack of the element thiamine causes disorders of the animal's digestive tract. Its deficiency leads to weight loss and lack of appetite. The element helps puppies grow, providing them with energy and vigor.
  3. Riboflabin (B2). The condition of the coat and skin depends on the normal concentration of the substance in the body. The vitamin strengthens the animal’s immunity and defense mechanisms, helps neutralize inflammatory processes. Vitamin B2 deficiency in a dog's body can cause muscle weakness, mucosal lesions, and conjunctivitis.
  4. Niacin (B3). The vitamin fights animal “bad” cholesterol, increases hemoglobin, and normalizes the metabolism of proteins and fats. After feeding the pet, nicotinic acid stimulates gastric juice and enzymes. Saturates the body with energy, helps to absorb protein from vegetables introduced into the diet. It is impossible to give vitamin B3 to an animal often. Its excess will cause disruption of the endocrine system and hair loss.

Owner reviews

The Mini Bull is a concentrate of the standard Bull Terrier. Even more fun, enthusiasm, activity, love and devotion in a smaller body. Thanks to its small size, the miniature bull terrier is even more suitable for keeping in city apartments, for beginners and people who are not very physically developed. Despite its small stature and therefore more pretty appearance, reminiscent of a puppy, the minibull also requires serious training. He is no less stubborn than the standard one and, in the absence of upbringing, can also bring a lot of trouble to his owners.

Principium

Yes, this breed is not for everyone, yes, this is a very difficult breed... but.... but if you yourself are stubborn by nature, if you love active recreation and long walks, you can insist on your own without resorting to physical force and you have a lot of patience and time - this breed is yours!

Mitmari

https://irecommend.ru/content/kharakter-opredelyaet-sudbu-ili-bulterer-eto-raz-i-navsegda

Affectionate, gentle animal. Moderately active. Plays well with older dogs. An excellent companion, as he is very people-oriented.

If you decide to get a mini bull terrier, be prepared for daily exercise with your pet. For full physical development, he needs long-term training. Also, the owner must seriously engage in raising the minibull, otherwise he will begin to show his stubborn independent nature and strive for dominance.

Proper feeding of puppies

With the correct diet, the puppy will be strong, his immunity will resist any diseases. In order for the anatomical and functional systems to form correctly, the pet needs high-quality products and a complex of vitamins.

A selection of nutrients and microelements is contained in dry food. At the same time, up to six months, puppies of medium breeds can be given balanced food for small breeds. After six months - dry food for large dogs.

For puppies from 3 months old, super premium food is suitable. Grain-free food contains fresh and boiled meat, fruits and vegetables. This diet does not contain hormonal drugs or by-products.

For puppies suffering from allergies or gastrointestinal disorders, select holistic-grade food. Complete dry food will ensure the safety of digestion and the balance of the puppy’s intestinal microflora. Satisfies the high energy needs of medium breed babies during a short period of their growth.

For two-week-old puppies, you can add porridge to their diet. From one and a half months, feed dry croquettes with a high calorie content. For the first few days, soak the granules in milk or warm water. Start switching to this food with 12-16 grains per day. Monitor the condition of the puppy, and in case of a negative reaction, stop feeding granules. If your puppy's skin regularly scratches and peels after eating kibble, give your baby water to drink frequently.

Unlike adult pets, medium breed puppies should be fed more often:

  • From 2 to 4 months - 6 times;
  • From 3 to six months - 4 times;
  • From five to 10 months - 3 times.

Diseases and health problems from food

Owners of bull terriers, bulldogs, basset hounds and retrievers often face the problem of excess weight in their animals. Obesity develops due to little physical activity and a lack of fresh, unprocessed plant foods in the diet. Due to an increase in body weight due to adipose tissue, pathologies develop:

  • Increased glucose levels and metabolic disorders;
  • Congestive heart failure;
  • Violation of the rhythm and depth of breathing, lack of air;
  • Arthrosis;
  • Arthritis;
  • Hemarthrosis;
  • Hip dysplasia;
  • Synovitis;
  • Osteoarthritis.

If you suspect one of the diseases, exclude food with high calorie content from the diet, do not feed fatty meat and baked goods. Replace high-calorie foods with natural feed mixtures with a reduced amount of fat. Switching to lightweight granules will burn extra calories while retaining all the beneficial substances in the body.

Often counterfeit food does not contain meat products and necessary elements, but cereals and stabilizers. Due to the poor quality of this food, the animal may develop:

  • Allergic reaction;
  • Inflammatory-dystrophic changes in the gastric mucosa;
  • Esophagitis of the esophagus;
  • Inflammatory process in the pancreas;
  • Manifestation of urolithiasis;
  • Frequent bowel movements with the release of liquid stool.

If signs of pathologies appear, the animal must be urgently transferred to holistic food and plenty of fluids with the addition of rehydron.

Feeding pregnant dogs

After a successful mating, the bitch’s body changes, adapting to future babies. Natural reflexes and instincts work in the interests of the dog's health. Unpleasant exceptions often occur. If there is a lack of necessary elements in the body, the bitch aborts.

In the last days of pregnancy, babies take away all the beneficial substances from their mother. This leads to bad consequences in the bitch’s body after giving birth. The main danger is calcium deficiency. A lack of the substance in a pregnant bitch can cause a severe form of gestosis. Due to an imbalance of potassium-calcium balance, the animal’s blood pressure increases greatly, leading to a risk of pregnancy. Along with calcium, a pregnant pet needs magnesium, which is involved in the functioning of the central nervous system.

The bitch's diet when carrying puppies must be of good quality. Proper feeding during the entire period of pregnancy greatly influences its progress and the development of the fetus. Add chicken yolks mashed with cottage cheese to your pet’s diet 2 times a week. When carrying puppies, you need proteins that will help the babies develop properly.

Until five weeks of pregnancy, the animal does not need additional nutrients. If the dog is given more food during this period, it will gain weight, but the risk of complications during childbirth will increase. She should be switched to an enhanced diet on day 35. There is no need to be alarmed if your pet doesn’t eat more. When carrying one or two fruits, she does not need to increase the dose of food. She needs to be given vitamins.

History and characteristics of the breed

Origin of the Miniature Bull Terrier

The Miniature Bull Terrier is small in size and light in weight.

The Miniature Bull Terrier appeared in England at the beginning of the 19th century. The name of the breed comes from the dogs that were used in breeding - the bulldog and the white terrier. Due to their non-standard parameters, these dogs were not particularly popular at first.

Important! There is a version that the ancestors of the mini bull terrier also include the black and tan terrier. Subsequently, they were crossed with the Spanish pointer, which made it possible to increase the size of the individuals.

In 1863, the mini bull terrier was first presented at an exhibition, and in 1938 a specialized club was organized, headed by Colonel Richard Glynn. Together with several enthusiasts, he sent a petition to the Kennel Club to create a smaller breed of bull terrier, the maximum height at the withers of which would be 35.6 cm.

So, in 1939 the breed received official recognition. According to the standard, the weight of individuals should not exceed 9 kg. But then breeders managed to lift this restriction, because they believed that such a condition would lead to weak or completely non-viable dogs. Due to the absence of weight requirements, it was possible to obtain stronger individuals with well-developed muscles. In 1948, the first champion was registered among mini-bull terriers. It was a female, Deldon DeLovery. Subsequently, the popularity of minibulls increased. In 1991 they were recognized as an independent breed.

Standard with photo

The Miniature Bull Terrier is a compact and harmonious dog.

The Mini Bull Terrier has a harmonious build. It has pronounced muscles and strong bones. The height at the withers reaches 25–35 cm, body weight 10–16 kg. Life expectancy is 12–14 years. The dog's head is elongated, ovoid in shape. The skull is flat at the top. The nose is black. The transition from the top of the head to the nose is smooth. The eyes are set obliquely, narrow, triangular in shape. May be dark brown or black in color. The ears are erect, thin, small in size, and located close together. The teeth are large, a scissor bite is desirable, but a straight bite is acceptable.

The neck is long, muscular and slightly arched. The chest is wide. The lower back has noticeably pronounced muscles, there is a slight convexity. Limbs are straight. Shoulders are muscular. The shoulder blades are flat, wide, placed obliquely, and fit well to the chest. The thighs and legs have developed muscles. The hock and stifle joints are noticeably pronounced. The tail is short in length, low, thick near the base, tapering towards the tip.

The coat is short, close to the body, and has a coarse structure. There are several types of color: pure white, red, brindle, black with white spots, black with red and white spots. In winter, a soft undercoat is formed.

Character

The breed is distinguished by its willfulness and affection for its owner.

Mini Bull Terriers are active, energetic and inquisitive dogs. But in the absence of socialization, they may develop a tendency towards aggression. Despite their willfulness and stubbornness, these pets can be trained. An appropriate approach will help make them friendly, loving and loyal. Also keep in mind that the mini bull terrier does not like loneliness and needs constant contact with the owner.
