Ribotan for dogs – a remedy that improves immunity

Doses and method of administration

Ribotan is administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly in the following doses:

Animal species

Single dose, ml
Adult animals Young animals over 3 months old. age Young animals up to 3 months. age
Dogs, cats, fur animals, rabbits, nutria 1,0-2,0 1,0 0,5
Small cattle 1,0-2,0 1,0 0,5
Pigs 2,0 — 3,0 1,0 0,5
Cattle, horses, camels 4,0 — 5,0 2,0 1,0

For the prevention of infectious diseases, Ribotan is used one dose once a quarter, during mass diseases - one dose for 3 days in a row. When vaccinated, the drug is injected simultaneously with the vaccine. If the animal’s condition worsens and diagnosis is impossible in the initial stage of the disease, the drug is administered 2-3 times in one dose with an interval of 3-5 days. For therapeutic purposes, once a diagnosis has been established, Ribotan is injected in one dose every 3-5 days until recovery. If necessary, the course of treatment should be repeated after 5-10 days. The use of the drug must be combined with serum (immunoglobulin) therapy and symptomatic agents (antibiotics, vitamins, cardiac drugs). To prevent a stressful condition (for example, during transportation, haircut, etc.), one dose of the drug is administered 10 - 18 hours before stress exposure. When using the drug, you must follow the rules of asepsis and antiseptics. Needles and syringes are sterilized by boiling; a separate needle is used for each animal. The injection site is treated with 70° alcohol.

Different breeds

For a successful treatment course for large breeds, 2-3 packages of ampoules are needed. Breeds that need to use the drug with caution:

  1. York.
  2. Spitz.
  3. Chihuahua.
  4. Shar Pei.
  5. Beagle.
  6. Bichon Frize.
  7. Ridgeback.

The immunomodulator should be used with caution when treating small dogs due to their low weight.

Pharmacological properties

Ribotan has an immunostimulating effect on the T- and B-immunity systems of animals. Stimulates immunoreactivity to specific antigens, the functional activity of macrophages, subpopulations of T and B lymphocytes, as well as the synthesis of interferon and lymphokines.

The drug strengthens the body's defense mechanisms and helps prevent and treat plague, viral enteritis, hepatitis, viral conjunctivitis, influenza, parainfluenza, other viral diseases, bacterial infections, as well as demodicosis and dermatophytosis of animals. The administration of ribotan compensates for the deficiency of normally existing cellular and humoral immunity factors, maintains the balance of immunocorrective cells in the diseases listed above and thus ensures normal homeostasis of the body. Ribotan prevents the development of stressful conditions.

Purpose

The immunostimulant Ribotan can be used as an independent drug, and also prescribed as part of complex therapy. It is assigned:

  • with leukopenia;
  • enteritis;
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • viral conjunctivitis;
  • agranulocytosis and other diseases that are accompanied by immunodeficiency.

The most dangerous diseases are plague and enteritis. With a weakened immune system, the chances of survival even in adult dogs are minimal; puppies die in 90-95% of cases. The plague virus is insidious - it can survive indoors at room temperature for up to a year, it can withstand low temperatures and heat - at +55 degrees Celsius it lives for another hour, sometimes more. It is difficult to cope with it, so it is important to vaccinate animals in a timely manner, and at the first signs of the disease, immediately go to the veterinary clinic.

Enteritis is no less dangerous for puppies. The disease is associated with inflammation of the small intestine. Dogs experience vomiting and persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, and elevated body temperature. The pathology can be acute or chronic, but it is always life-threatening – and not only for puppies, but also for adults.

With leukopenia in the blood, the number of white blood cells - leukocytes - decreases below normal. This leads to a weakening of the body, accompanied by an increase in body temperature, chills, and exhaustion. Against this background, the body is not able to resist any infections. The dog exhibits:

  • cardiopalmus;
  • mouth ulcers;
  • enlarged tonsils;
  • bleeding gums and other noticeable signs.

In veterinary practice, Ribotan is used as a prophylactic agent to prevent viral and bacterial diseases, before surgery - to prevent the development of secondary infections, before stress factors, which include:

  • change of owner;
  • transportation, moving;
  • visiting exhibitions;
  • visit to the veterinarian;
  • vaccination, etc.

The impact of all these and other negative factors leads to a decrease in immunity, which opens access to the body's cells to all pathogenic microorganisms.

General information about the drug Ribotan

The manufacturer of the product is Vetzverocentr LLC (Russia). The immunomodulator Ribotan is available only in the form of an injection solution. It is colorless and transparent, without a pronounced odor. Composition of the drug:

  • low molecular weight polypeptides - 10 mcg;
  • yeast RNA interference - 105 μg;
  • sodium chloride - 8.5 mcg;
  • purified water - less than 1 ml.

Ribotan is packaged in bottles of 1, 2, 5, 10, 100, 200 ml and glass bottles of 450 ml. There are also 1 ml glass ampoules on sale - this is the most convenient option for cats, as it represents a standard dose for an adult animal.

Ribotan should be kept in sealed packaging at a temperature of 2 to 10 degrees above zero, separately from food. Shelf life: 2 years from the date of production. After opening the ampoule (vial), the drug must be used within 30 minutes. After this time it should be disposed of.

It is forbidden to use expired product, as this can cause poisoning in the animal. If the solution turns yellow or brown, it means that the drug was stored incorrectly (at a high temperature) and must be disposed of as it has deteriorated.

Reviews from dog breeders

Mikhail Kolesnichenko, Lipetsk. My German Shepherd is almost a year old. Everything was fine, and then I began to notice that her fur became worse and some sores appeared on her skin. At the veterinary hospital, the doctor said that she had demodicosis (a mite under the skin), and that this was due to poor immunity. We treated him for ticks with a strong drug and Ribotan. Ribotan boosts immunity. Everything went well, but then they installed it several more times. Its OK now.

Many dog owners use Ribotan during the vaccination period and before the show.

Tatiana, Moscow. I don’t know why, but I always give my pugs Ribotan before a show. Two years ago I lost my dog when she got sick after an exhibition. And vaccinations didn't help. Maybe I'm blowing water, but I don't want to lose any more dogs. I’d rather support my immune system several times a year and feel calmer. And I always give it to dogs with vaccinations too.

Masha, Orekhovo-Zuevo. I found Sherry on the street as a puppy. While growing up, all sorts of sores stuck to him. Although there was no plague or enteritis, we gave vaccinations. And I was sick all the time, and then I was hit by a car. I was ready to give everything for him to be cured. After the operation, the doctor told us that he had a weak immune system, so he was often sick. After the operation, we also injected Ribotan. Now everything is fine, Sherry doesn’t even limp. We go to the doctor, donate blood so that the doctor monitors our immunity. If necessary, then inject Ribotan.

Precautionary measures

It is impossible to give immunomodulators to cats all the time. After completing the course, it is important to take a break of at least two weeks and only then repeat Ribotan injections. If used too frequently, the body can become addicted when the natural production of antiviral bodies is disrupted.

Another possible problem that people may face if they unnecessarily give immunomodulators to their pets and do not follow the dosage is an increased risk of autoimmune disorders. Antibodies are stimulated by the drug to destroy the infection, but in the absence of “enemies” (microbes, bacteria, fungi) they can start a “war” against healthy structures - the heart, muscles, joints, skin, liver, glands. For example, autoimmune disorders occur:

  • lupus;
  • hepatitis;
  • prostatitis;
  • thyroiditis;
  • myasthenia gravis;
  • rheumatoid arthritis.

Interaction with other drugs

The immunomodulator Ribotan combines well with other medications that are used to eliminate the cause of the disease or symptomatic treatment. You can combine drugs for immunity; it will not cause harm (if the dosage is selected correctly). But such a combination is not justified in any way (the effect of taking several drugs does not increase).

Are there any contraindications

Ribotan has no strict prohibitions on use. Very rarely, hypersensitivity to the polypeptides included in the drug is observed. This reaction manifests itself in:

  • slight weakness;
  • dizziness;
  • one-time cases of nausea;
  • indigestion;
  • slight increase in temperature.

This condition does not pose a threat to the animal’s life and goes away quickly, so it does not require canceling the course of treatment or prevention.

special instructions

It is strictly forbidden to use “Ribotan” after the expiration of the shelf life, if the integrity of the packaging is damaged, there is no labeling, there are foreign inclusions or the structure has changed. These ampoules must be rejected and disposed of.

When administering the medicine, you must follow the following rules: an individual needle is used for each dog, and the injection site is treated with medical alcohol.

Important! Don't self-medicate! All medications for your pets must be prescribed by a veterinarian. And do not exceed the prescribed dosage.

Price

The price of a package of Ribotan of 10 ampoules of 1 ml each in online pharmacies is on average 900 rubles. In many veterinary pharmacies and stores you can purchase ampoules individually. In this case, the cost of 1 ampoule will be about 120 rubles. The price may vary up or down in different regions and pharmacies. The low price compared to other immunostimulating agents can also be attributed to the advantages of Ribotan.

Can it be used?

Ribotan is an immunostimulating agent that activates the formation of interferon, which protects cells from damage by pathogenic microorganisms.

Due to the biological origin of its constituent components, it can be widely used for various diseases and conditions in cats:

  • for severe infectious diseases;
  • in the treatment of immunodeficiency;
  • as a prevention of viral diseases;
  • to accelerate the healing of wounds and injuries;
  • to alleviate the effects of stress;
  • to develop immunity after vaccination;
  • to provide antioxidant effects.

Most often, Ribotan is used as part of a complex treatment with antibiotics, but to compensate for immunodeficiency, monotherapy is effective.

The main advantage of the drug is that it can be used without restrictions to treat all domestic animals, including cats. In addition, its value is as follows:

  • effectiveness has been proven by clinical studies and extensive practice;
  • good compatibility with all medications;
  • has no side effects.

There is only one significant drawback: Ribotan is available in the form of an injection solution, and many owners do not know how to give injections themselves.

Indications for use

The drug is used in complex therapy for diseases accompanied by immunodeficiency states. The use of the medication is recommended in the following cases:

  • vaccination;
  • treatment and prevention of diseases of viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic origin;
  • agranulocytosis;
  • leukopenia;
  • prevention of infection development in the postoperative period;
  • reducing the effects of stress during transportation or change of environment.
