To prevent vomiting due to motion sickness, the drug can be given once a day, 2 hours before travel, for up to 2 days in a row. If necessary, wrap the tablet in a small amount of food, such as deli meat.
Answers to frequently asked questions
Can an opened drug be used?
Sereniya does not lose its properties when properly stored. Thus, the tablet removed from the blister can be used within 2 days. And the solution, after the first withdrawal from the bottle, lasts for 3 months: the main thing is, after piercing the lid, close it with adhesive tape and store at a temperature of 3-25°C.
Can a puppy dog have Serenia?
No, the drug is prohibited for pregnant and lactating bitches, as it is harmful to fetuses and newborn puppies. But a veterinarian can prescribe drugs if the pet’s life is at risk and other medications do not help.
Planning a train trip for several days with your dog? Can I give her the pills all the time?
You can’t: in this case, the drug accumulates in the body. It is allowed to feed a maximum of 2 tablets in a row for 2 days, after which a break is needed for 72 hours. In addition, the medication lasts for at least 12 hours, so there is no need to continuously give the animal pills.
The dog is vomiting severely. What is better: giving an injection or giving a pill?
In case of prolonged, profuse vomiting, it is better to give an injection: it will act 2-3 times faster. In addition, the dog may vomit the tablet during the next attack.
How should Serenia be given to dogs?
Give the medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. To prevent motion sickness, Sereniya should be given 2 hours before travel, but you should not feed your pet for at least 1 hour before giving Sereniya. Your veterinarian may require blood tests or other medical tests to monitor your pet's condition. Store the drug at room temperature in a dry place. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and other pets.
Contraindications and side effects
There are not many contraindications to taking Serenia, so this drug is often prescribed by veterinary specialists. You cannot give medicine:
- pregnant cats, since the effect of its active substance on the fetus has not been studied;
- kittens under the age of four months;
- in case of individual intolerance to the active component.
Side effects of Serenia manifest themselves in the form of allergic reactions, which are easily relieved with the help of antihistamines.
What are the possible side effects of serenia in dogs?
If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving the drug and seek emergency veterinary medical attention: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives); sudden onset of diarrhea; vomit; shock; convulsions; coma. Other less serious side effects may occur. Side effects other than those listed in this leaflet may occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effects that seem unusual or particularly bothersome to your pet.
Analogues of the drug
Sereniya is a unique drug. There are no other medications that would only affect nerve impulses and not affect the functioning of the digestive system. And among veterinary drugs, only Reisfit can replace the development from Zoetis. In other cases, dogs are given medicine for humans.
Analogue | Differences | average cost |
Reisfit | Veterinary antiemetic drug for. Used to prevent vomiting during travel in animals with vestibular disorders. The active ingredient is cyclizine: it suppresses the production of histamine, which leads to nausea. Prohibited for pets with epilepsy, may cause dry mucous membranes, coordination problems, and drowsiness. | Pack of 10 tablets – 600 rub. |
Cerucal | A “human” drug that is often prescribed to dogs for nausea. Contains metoclopramide, which acts similarly to the active substance in Serenia: it blocks nerve impulses passing through the vomiting center. Additionally, Cerucal normalizes gastrointestinal motility and increases the tone of the muscles of the stomach and intestines. Medicines are usually prescribed for digestive disorders at a dosage of 0.5-0.7 mg per 10 kg. | Tablets – 120 rubles, solution – 240 rubles. |
Metoclopramide | Another drug for humans that is used for animals. Similar to Cerucal, but more often causes side effects: allergies, constipation, diarrhea, nervous disorders. It acts quickly: after 1-3 minutes with intravenous administration and after 10-15 minutes with intramuscular injection. Dogs are given a dosage of 0.11-0.48 mg/kg every 6-8 hours. | Tablets – 35 rubles, solution – 85 rubles. |
Aeron | Also “human” drugs. Used for motion sickness. Contains scopolamine and hyoscyamine, which reduce the tone of the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, bronchi, gall and bladder. | 120 rub. |

Pills
All owners give tablets to cats in different ways, since there is no single option on how to do this. Now we will tell you about the main ways to take medications in tablet form.
1 way
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Remove the serenia tablet from the blister.
- Place the cat on your lap, preferably with the cat's muzzle located above body level.
- Open your pet's mouth and place the tablet on the root of your tongue with your other hand. Thanks to the swallowing reflex, he will swallow on his own.
Method 2
- Grind 1 piece and then stir in 5-10 ml of warm boiled water.
- Draw the resulting solution into a syringe without a needle.
- Ask your loved ones to hold the mustache.
- Open its mouth with one hand and inject the suspension with the other. It is very important to spray the product directly onto the palate, in which case the medicine will definitely enter the esophagus.
3 way
- Crush the Serenium tablet.
- Take a small portion of food (minced meat, canned cat food or pate (chicken or goose liver) are great).
- Add the resulting powder to your food and mix well.
- Give your cat a bowl of food and make sure he eats everything. You should not leave the leftovers in the bowl as it will spoil after a few hours.
- After this, you need to wash the bowl with detergent.
How much does it cost and where to buy
"Serenia" is considered a fairly common medicine. It can be purchased at almost any online store or veterinary pharmacy. The medicine is quite expensive.
The price of a 20 ml bottle starts from 4,000 rubles, and a package with four tablets starts from 1,000 rubles. Considering that the medicine is original and has no analogues on the Russian market, the high cost is justified by the effectiveness of the medicine.
How it affects the body
When it enters the cat’s body, thanks to the circulatory system, the active substance quickly spreads throughout the body. The active substance (maropitant citrate) is able to effectively block receptors at the peripheral and central levels of the central nervous system.
Therefore, in cats, the unpleasant gag reflex is suppressed, and accordingly, vomiting and nausea stop.
Injections act approximately 2 times faster compared to tablets. This is due to the fact that maropitant citrate immediately binds to plasma proteins and spreads throughout the cat’s body.
Owner reviews
Christina: I used the drug Sereniya 2 times, because the kittens often vomited when moving. And after using the product, such consequences disappear. I advise everyone to buy only in syringes, they are only 1-2 ml. If you buy a whole 20 ml bottle, then most likely you will waste money. Since an open bottle is stored for 1 month.
Olga: My cat was diagnosed with acute cystitis during an examination at the clinic. This disease caused great pain to my pet, she also vomited often, and she did not eat at all. The veterinarian recommended the drug sereniya, as it should stop all vomiting. I used to have a cat, and I gave him injections, so I chose the injection form because it works faster. By evening the pet felt better and the nausea stopped. Therefore, I was even able to give her milk. No adverse reactions were identified, they can recommend a remedy!
