Hello, dear visitor. You are on the website of the Yorkshire Terrier kennel SMILINE

We have been working for more than 20 years. There are a lot of us. I think I won’t be mistaken if I write that SMILINE is the largest and oldest kennel in St. Petersburg, as well as one of the first to start breeding Yorkshire terriers in Russia. The results of work and achievements can be seen by going through the pages of this site. But for those who are not entirely familiar with the activities of the nursery, I will still give a short, now historical, information.

So.

To begin with, I would like to introduce myself. I am Smirnova Marina Vladimirovna.

I live in St. Petersburg. Higher education (two). In cynology, all available educational institutions have been completed, and the corresponding diplomas and certificates have been received everywhere. I am fascinated by the breeding of Yorkshire terriers, because I love this breed and, most likely, I will remain devoted to it in the future. The general principles of our work are:

1. I strive to ensure that people who buy a dog from us can proudly say where it comes from.

2. I use only healthy animals for breeding.

3. I respect dogs. That's why I don't keep much.

4. The welfare of dogs and good relationships with customers are worth more than money.

5. A general positive attitude is very important. Everything should bring joy, both breeding and personal relationships.

In 2022, I was awarded a certificate and medal.

You can read how I became a “dog lover” here Natalya Nemolotova has been working with me for many years.

07.12.2013 St. Petersburg “NEVSKY WINNER” SMILINE LOLA LOLITA (SMILINE ESENIN x SMILINE ZARINA) - CW, CAC, CACIB, BOS, BOB, BIG-3

We are friends with her, the principles of our approach are the same. Natalia gave birth to many beautiful dogs in her house, including the First World Champion from Russia. But more on that below.

Now - history. Hello! It's me. My name is Smirnova Marina, although I should have added “Vladimirovna” a long time ago, but for some reason I don’t want to and I’m trying to delay this moment all the time, but without a middle name it’s easier.

It so happens that I work with dogs, and as you probably already understood, Yorkshire terriers. I love them because Yorkies are just like people. I probably gave birth to few children, and in general, very few - one son, Dmitry, who is already a big uncle, and instead of children, I babysit dogs.

I love it when I have puppies in my house, it doesn’t irritate me to have to take care of their fur, I like exhibitions, and besides, the dog breeding brings me some income, in short, only positive aspects. And the result turns out well: the list of champions with my console is quite impressive, I have excellent friends who appeared in the process of training dogs, what else is needed for an old pepper shaker? ;-)) This is the section “About the nursery” from the old version of our site. The text shows that I have become older and more serious. But the essence remains the same.

I'll start anyway.

It all started with the purchase of my first dog, Zsustina. This was in 1994, and I was lucky.

Firstly, it was a high-quality dog without errors (c) (I put a copyright on the expression “without errors” because it is now widely used, like many other things that came to mind).

Secondly. I met and became friends with the breeders of this dog, Pascal Mark and Markku Kipina. The Mayodian nursery was unusually strong at that time. The Mayodians were distinguished by their strong anatomy (primarily straight backs) and excellent temperament. Moreover, their dogs were so good that I still don’t see any equal to them (and more than 20 years have passed)

Djebel Amour De Majodian

I was lucky in that I saw what a good dog should be, what a puppy should be like in order to later turn into an exhibition winner. I practically moved into Marco and Pascal's house. And it was a happy time. I was not particularly overloaded with work; I was taken to all exhibitions. I remember we went to Sweden, where Pascal Mark judged a club show of Yorkies. Bernice Unden and her husband received us. There were a lot of dogs at that show, the atmosphere was very warm. The memories remain the most pleasant, and most importantly - useful. At that time, the ties between the two nurseries, Debonaires and Mayodian, were very close. For reference: the beautiful Debonaire's Hold Me Now bred by Bernice Unden became the World Champion, won Cruft and Eurasia in 2015.

They taught me virtually everything about dogs. And I am grateful to these people to this day. I started with them. Even such a moment as exhibition clothing: after watching enough of Pascal, I was the first in Russia to start entering the ring dressed in a dress or skirt. Before this, it was customary to show Yorkies in trousers. Now the length of these skirts and dresses on Russian girls in the rings can be indecently short, I did not set such an example. More about innovations: I personally invented and sewed the world’s first carrying case, I even still have it. It was necessary to apply for the invention at the right time. I regret that I didn't do it.

Back to the dogs. For almost 20 years, bitches bred by Mayodian dogs were a solid basis for breeding. They had everything I liked: anatomy, temperament, health, good coat.

During my close contact with this nursery, I got Audrey. This dog gave me self-confidence. I must say that I don’t particularly like to show dogs myself, I see more from the outside and can teach someone who really wants it. But Audrey practically brought me into the ring.

I purchased Freestyle. He was good: dark, straight. Became Champion of several countries. From the mating of these two dogs, Bullet was born. This is the iconic dog of my kennel. Great dog. I wouldn't refuse one today.

Around 1999, I bought Garik from Pascal. Not just like that. He was an outstanding producer. Entire rings of his children were exhibited, and these were unusually high-quality dogs. For example, he is the father of the World Champion Lonely Tunes Hot Love Affair

Lonely Tunes Hot Love Affair, breeder and owner Iri Halonen

It is this dog (Lonely Tunes Hot Love Affair) that is still the standard for me. In the ring she looked... And, in general, she looked like in the photo: with slow movement or with accelerated movement, all parts of the silhouette remained in the same places: the neck, a completely straight back and an absolutely straight tail, set perpendicular to the back. (at that time tails were docked). That's all. There was no need to pull her up by the neck, she did not run with her neck hanging on the leash. That's how she lived. She was cut and sewn like that. This dog stands before my eyes, it is like a stencil, under which I now put and evaluate any dog I see in motion.

The purchase of Heros Eponim De Majodian, as well as previous matings with this manufacturer, led to the fact that our livestock (I don’t like this word, but it reflects the essence) was approximately uniform: straight, running dogs, of good size, with rustic heads (in At that time it was already very fashionable to have producers with so-called “baby faces”). People bought such puppies, but here we have terrier heads, as in the standard. I must say that to this day I’m not particularly worried about heads; everything else is more important to me. But time dictated... And one more thing: almost all the bitches were from Heros, good bitches, but there was a problem, what next. Around that time - the end of the nineties - I had the opportunity to watch videos from rings in America, and I liked the dogs of Durrer's kennel. In Russia this word was not known at all. I started writing to Betty Ann Durrer about purchasing a male dog. And in 2001 I sent two bitches to her for mating. One of them subsequently gave birth to a litter, from which one of the bitches stayed in the house and even became a mother a couple of times. Their father is Durrer's Hearty Applause.

Durrer's Hearty Applause

At the beginning of 2002 I managed to bring Stoker from Durrer's nursery. It was then that everyone found out about this kennel and began to take dogs out of there. And Stoker sat quietly at my house, and almost no one knew about him. I do not belong to people who, like a hen that has laid an egg, cluck about luck to the whole world. True, after many years, I am beginning to become convinced that this is probably the wrong position - the louder the fame (and preferably with a scandal), the more they know about you, and this is directly proportional to material income.

At the beginning of the 2000s, something like this began to emerge: one, as they say, “line” was from Mayodian, and the second, as it happened, from dogs with the pedigree of the Durrers kennel. More stable results were obtained from the first one, but even with their interaction it turned out well.

In those years, we had almost identical dogs running around the rings, as I already wrote, and we won a lot with them. That's when people joined us who bought puppies and wanted to show. We have formed a nice company. We celebrated victories, holidays, and simply became good friends and like-minded people. It was a good time.

Not only were puppies born to me, but they all had the same prefix - SMILINE. I came up with the idea of writing on the Internet that breeders are those in whose homes this or that litter was born. This is, of course, wrong, but in my opinion it is logical. If you see a similar situation now, then remember where it came from. By the way, I’m not very pleased when my actions are openly copied, but there’s nothing to be done about it.

At one of the international exhibitions, I literally fell in love with a dog. It was Pastoral The Sky's The Limit

Pastoral The Sky's The Limit

Soon I discovered his son in Moscow. From mating my Pulya with him, puppies were born. Males. One of them immediately stayed in the house as soon as I walked around the yard with him in the ring. It was Smiline Mont Plaisir. I will not be mistaken if I say that this manufacturer has had a significant impact on the quality of my dogs. There is enough talk around him even now. But I don’t invite anyone to mating and I don’t impose my opinion. But I have never had such children as descendants from matings, cunningly combined, and being a continuation of Mayodian’s Monplaisir’s. I wrote about this here.

About the same age as Mon Plaisir is another iconic dog with our prefix - Smiline Energizer. At the age of one year, he fell into the golden hands of Yulia Grushina. He was obtained by inbreeding to Heros, so he inherited the solidity and all the positive qualities of Mayodian dogs.

It was from Energizer that Smiline Only Yu was born in the house of Natalia Nemolotova, she was bought by Yulia Grushina, raised, and in 2011 won the title of WORLD CHAMPION. This was the first World Champion from Russia. To say that we were happy is to say nothing. I will be grateful to Yulia, as the owner and handler, and to Natalya, as the breeder, for this true happiness until the end of my days.

In those years, my comrades entered the rings and totally won under any experts. Our dogs were so good that I’m not afraid to say this, there was a real flourishing of the kennel. You could simply buy almost any puppy from us and, if you wanted, make a successful career, despite strong competition. Yes, our dogs lacked sweet faces, but in the ring the expert couldn’t really see that. And now, with the development of the chemical industry and the increased level of grooming, the most ferocious judge may simply not notice this “flaw.” And everything else - our neck, back, tail - were usually straight. I'm generally a fan of straight lines. I love. It doesn’t always work out, but I strive and I know how it should be.

The mid-2000s gained a lot of experience. I wanted to share it with him. And in 2009 my book “Yorkshire Terrier” was published.

There was a presentation. We celebrated in a cafe. The book is still popular.

In subsequent years, until approximately 2013, the dogs of our kennel were consistently successfully exhibited. Not only in St. Petersburg, but also throughout Russia, as well as abroad. The list of Interchampion dogs speaks about our success. Many times Smilainovites became prize-winners of major international exhibitions. Among them are the Winners of such exhibitions as “Eurasia” and “Russia”.

Keeping a Yorkshire Terrier

This popular dog breed was created to be kept in a city apartment. Despite its terrier temperament, the Yorkshire Terrier can easily do without long walks. Many owners who have problems with free time teach their pets to use a “cat” litter box or a special diaper. But this does not mean that the Yorkie is a creature intended only for indoor life. He will be happy to frolic on the street.

The long, silky coat is the main pride of the breed. But, as a rule, floor length is reserved only for dogs taking part in exhibitions. After all, in order to keep her in a state that evokes admiration and not pity, a lot of effort is required. Long hair must be washed, combed and oiled regularly. And to prevent the formation of tangles, the show Yorkie has to wear curlers for a significant part of his life. Beauty requires sacrifice.

Dogs not taking part in exhibitions usually have their fur trimmed. A Yorkie's haircut can change their image beyond recognition, highlight their strengths and hide their flaws. But, of course, this can only be done by experienced groomers who are well aware of the breed standard. Just such specialists work at the Royal Present Yorkshire Terrier Kennel.

In general, despite their diminutiveness and defenselessness, these dogs are distinguished by good health and usually do not cause their owners much trouble.

If you have already firmly decided that a Yorkie is the dog that will make you happy, we invite you to our Yorkshire terrier kennel in Moscow, where you can turn your dream into reality. We almost always have Yorkie puppies of various classes for sale. It is possible that one of them will become your most faithful and devoted friend for many years.

A little about the breed

The Yorkshire Terrier dog cannot boast of ancient origin - the breed is just over 100 years old. Despite the touch of elitism, luxurious appearance and proud posture (all this is reflected in the standard), Yorkies have the simplest, worker-peasant origin. This breed comes from the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire in the north of England, where similar small dogs were kept by peasants to protect their houses from rodents. In the 19th century, by crossing them with the Manchester Terrier, Skye Terrier and Maltese, workers in northern England weaving mills created a new breed - the Yorkshire Terrier.

The modern Yorkie is a beautiful dog, with long, silky hair that neatly divides into two parts along an even parting. The breed has a bright terrier character. This kid cares about everything and everyone. But, of course, most of all - to the owner. Sensitively capturing a person’s mood, he is ready to adapt to it in everything. The main thing for a Yorkshire Terrier is to be close to its owner. It doesn’t matter how: following on his heels or sitting in a bag.

These wonderful dogs are bred at the Moscow Yorkie kennel "Royal Present"

How to choose and buy a YORKSHIRE TERRIER puppy

So, you have decided on the breed - Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier)! The Yorkshire Terrier (York) is a small dog weighing 1.5–3.0 kg, with luxurious silk coat the color of antique silver, a golden head and the posture of a king of lions. I would not like to call the Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) just a small lap dog. York is brave, smart, proud. He almost completely retained the traits of a terrier - fortitude, temperament, fearlessness, tirelessness. Celebrities adore them, sometimes their dogs are more popular than their famous owners! Yorkies are bought haute couture items, diamond collars, taken on vacation to the best resorts in the world, taken to beauty salons, hired personal stylists! But the love of Yorkshire terriers (Yorks) can only be earned by giving them your devotion and tenderness. They don’t care where to spend the night - in a fashionable hotel or in a city “one-room apartment”. The main thing is that the beloved owner is nearby.

Buying a successful Yorkshire Terrier puppy (YORK) in Moscow is not an easy task! I want him to be “handsome and healthy”, and so that in six months the “hamster” will not turn into a bear, and so that he won’t be ashamed to go out on the street with this Yorkie, and so that he won’t regret the money spent later. If you decide to take this step, read some tips. Where to start to buy a beautiful purebred Yorkshire Terrier puppy?

First. A standard is a description of an ideal dog of a specific breed, which presents characteristics of the general appearance of an adult animal, type of build, size, weight, temperament. It consistently describes the animal's features from nose to tail, as well as the characteristics of its coat and color. Obviously, there are no ideal dogs in nature, but the more purebred the puppy, the more likely it is that it will meet the standard in terms of its qualities. Therefore, before you start looking for a Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) puppy, read the standard, it won’t take much time, but you will also have an initial understanding of the breed and what adult representatives (producers) of the Yorkshire Terrier (York) breed should look like. Second. A pedigree is an official document that records: the breed of a dog, its gender, name, date of birth, brand, number of the pedigree itself, the name of the breeder and owner, and most importantly - at least three generations of ancestors are represented here, both paternal and maternal line (indicating nicknames, titles and pedigree numbers). A distinction must be made between ordinary pedigree and high-level pedigree. Entries like “Father: Count, mother: Countess” don’t say anything. Pedigrees, where titled dogs participating in breeding are recorded (these are Yorkshire terriers who have gone through not one, but many exhibitions and have proven their “quality” by the number of titles and descendants), are always more important and provide more guarantees that you are purchasing a high-quality pedigree Yorkie puppy ), and not an animal that has degenerated into “something” similar to a Yorkie (during illiterate crossbreeding), for which it was also paid for as a high-quality Yorkshire Terrier puppy. Therefore, when choosing a Yorkie puppy, first of all, pay attention to whether he has a “good ” pedigree. The puppy's parents must have titles, or at least ratings, received at shows. Although, according to the general rules of the RKF (Russian Cynological Federation), those dogs that have only gone to an exhibition once and received a rating from the judge not lower than “very good” are also allowed for breeding. As a rule, those who are in a hurry to make money on dogs are often limited to receiving one such assessment. If the seller proudly displays one single CARD from the exhibition “Christmas Meetings in Lower Cannes” with a “very good” rating, do not rush to give it a plus. Real breeders present a completely different picture. They actively show dogs left in the kennel. The purpose of this is not only to obtain grades and titles, although this speaks about the QUALITY of the dog. For a breeder, exhibitions are the best way to evaluate the quality of dogs “of their own breeding”, left in the kennel for further breeding. Third. We need to decide who we are looking for - a boy or a girl? The gender of a Yorkshire Terrier puppy, of course, depends only on personal preference. However, there is no difference in keeping boys and girls, who are equally affectionate and devoted. The cleanliness of a dog depends only on the owner. Fourth. When contacting a breeder, tell him the purpose of purchasing a dog: the desire to have a pet (pet-class), a good high-quality animal for breeding (breed-class) or a participant in the most prestigious exhibitions (show-class).

Now let's go! An inexperienced buyer chooses the simplest, but at the same time the most dangerous path - “Bird Market” or “York Show”. Oddly enough, it is from these places that most potential dog buyers begin their search. Why? Yes, because there is an opinion that when there is more choice on the market, it is always cheaper. In principle, it is difficult to find a high-quality and good-quality dog here, and the buyer will most often encounter dog resellers - this is when puppies are bought cheaply and they are given the best possible appearance. Such a seller will instantly identify a potential buyer and begin to praise his living product. Moreover, it will be done so skillfully that there is no chance of resisting. At the same time, photographs taken from popular publications are shown, seemingly of the puppies’ parents, who most often have nothing to do with the puppies in question. So, you give in to the pressure of the talkative aunt from the market, pay and happily go home. It would seem that everything is fine: the dream has come true, here he is - a Yorkshire terrier (Yorkie) puppy, a little long-awaited lump that pokes its wet nose into your face. Now prepare yourself for the fact that you are left face to face with all the future problems of raising a puppy. Tomorrow you will discover that the address where the seller lives is fake, the phone does not answer, and the veterinary clinic will laugh at the document that you show to the doctor. IF YOU'RE LUCKY, your "buy" will grow up in the meantime, gradually turning from a clumsy puppy into an adult dog. And then you will realize with horror that the dog is not at all like the Yorkie (Yorkshire terrier) that you have dreamed of all your life. But this is already a friend and family member. And again I want that Yorkie that I’ve been dreaming about for so long...

Next, let's try to take a different route, hoping to buy a healthier and more beautiful Yorkshire Terrier puppy. This path is more difficult in that it requires a serious and balanced approach. We call newspaper and magazine advertisements, search on the Internet, and contact specialized Yorkshire terrier kennels. Then, having collected and analyzed all the information received, we set out to choose a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. This path is guaranteed by 60 percent, which is generally not bad, considering that, without leaving home, you have collected the necessary information and acquired the ability to choose, making notes where you do not want to go at all.

In this flow of information, the following should be highlighted. There are several categories of sellers, among which the most numerous are “amateurs”, who most often use in breeding animals that are not of the highest breed (the so-called matings for “health”), and most importantly, who do not strive to improve the breed. They direct all their efforts to simple breeding of dogs. The choice of a sire (father of Yorkie puppies) comes down not to the breeding value of the dog (what titles he has, what is the quality of his puppies from previous matings), but to his size. They are interested in very small males (sometimes with signs of degeneration), males living in the neighborhood or those whose owners charge very little for breeding. Dog breeders are very enthusiastic about breeding very small individuals, but such “selection” does not lead to miniaturization of the breed, but only to the appearance of offspring with signs of dwarfism and all the accompanying defects. Next, avoid those whose house is filled with puppies of different breeds and ages. This is either a type of reseller, or people who are not interested in breeding real pedigree Yorkies, although advertisements often write about the sale of elite Yorkshire terrier puppies at low prices. In fact, they breed Yorkshire terriers (Yorks), of a very mediocre level, without giving themselves the trouble to think about the fate of the breed. Unfortunately, sites have appeared on the Internet where owners praise their puppies and supposedly their titled parents, however, on these sites you will not find the pedigrees of these producers, their exhibition achievements, ratings and titles, the titles of their children from previous litters and other objective information , characterizing the level of dilution.

Breeders (kennels of Yorkshire terriers) who stubbornly strive to breed great offspring belong to a completely different category. They all use high-breed animals in breeding, competently and very thoughtfully select breeding pairs, do everything in their power to ensure that the puppies of their breeding fall into safe hands, they actively help beginners in raising and raising a pet. In addition, experienced breeders (kennels) help develop the exhibition career of dogs of their breeding. Those breeders who have been successfully breeding dogs for a long time have a so-called kennel prefix registered with the FCI and a personal brand, plus they have a canine education. For puppies born in a kennel, the name of the prefix is always added to their individual nickname. The breeder strives to produce offspring of a homogeneous type, preferably within the range of 2.4-2.9 kg in weight for an adult dog. Any experienced breeder knows that you should not get carried away with breeding very small individuals with a weakened type of constitution, and especially “extreme animals” with muzzles shortened to such an extent that it is difficult for them to breathe. It is quite obvious that all these “baby faces” are invented as a clever advertising gimmick and do not benefit either the individual or the breed as a whole.

When communicating with the breeder over the phone, clearly formulate your desire, tell frankly what goal you are pursuing by getting a Yorkie. Do not assume that the seller's main goal is to deceive the buyer. Yorkie puppies are a special product, and a part of the breeder’s soul is invested in each one. The necessary contact and trust must arise between you and the breeder, and only then will the acquisition of a “miracle” become real - that one dog that will become both a friend and an object of admiration. In the future, the breeder should also become your first adviser: what to feed, how to care for him, who to give him a haircut, which veterinarian to treat him, which exhibitions to attend. If, as you communicate, you have doubts about the integrity of the seller, it is better to immediately discard the Yorkshire Terrier puppy from this litter. Believe me - there is a choice! Even well-known nurseries have puppies for owners who do not aspire to a show career for their pet.

And so, the most reliable way to buy a Yorkshire terrier puppy, even if you don’t need a future champion, is to find a professional Yorkshire terrier breeder (kennel). Choosing a Yorkie puppy is a complex matter, the topic of a separate article, although separate chapters of many popular publications are devoted to this topic. My opinion is that no one can tell you better than the person who raised his kids what kind of character the puppy has, who is a bully and a bully, who is calmer and likes to sleep longer, and who is more vocal and will growl if “enemies” are roaming around outside the apartment door. And it’s not always bad if the baby doesn’t come to you right away. This means that he loves his owner and is well taken care of - why would he leave his home? Wait a little and he will be happy to get to know you. But under no circumstances should you buy a Yorkshire Terrier puppy that appears sick, thin, or nervous. Mass popularity has never benefited any breed. And Yorkies are incredibly popular! The market is literally flooded with Yorkie puppies with various defects that negatively affect both the dog’s health and appearance. And you shouldn’t fly headlong to the first address just because, as they assure you, they sell cool puppies at low prices (remember that free cheese only comes in a mousetrap). If you decide to buy a Yorkshire Terrier puppy, it is better to contact a professional Yorkshire Terrier kennel. Purchasing a Yorkshire terrier puppy from an experienced breeder in a professional Yorkshire terrier kennel will help you avoid many problems. Buy a Yorkie puppy from a home where you are welcome, not just because you brought money. Remember that when you buy a puppy, you also gain friends who are ready to make contact with you and help you with advice.

Choosing a Yorkie puppy is half the battle; you also need to try to choose a breeder who will be willing to cooperate with you, will be honest and always open to you, because his experience will help you raise a beautiful and healthy dog. So! First choose a breeder (Kennel) of Yorkshire Terriers, and only then buy a YORK (Yorkshire Terrier) puppy from the breeder!

Good luck in finding and purchasing “YOUR” YORK (Yorkshire Terrier)! Tatyana Raevich, owner of the YORKSHIRE TERRIER kennel “WILD LION”, Moscow
